Falling in love wasn’t on
the itinerary

Blurb

Ryan Stone can’t wait to put his toes in the sand at the
famous Bondi Beach. When he arrives after a flight that was far too long, and having not
slept or eaten, all he can do is stare out at the beautiful expanse of white sand and blue
ocean in awe. And when a blond guy asks him to play footy, he agrees, even if he doesn’t
know for sure what that is.

Ollie Hughes thinks a day at the beach is just what he needs
to take his mind off work. When he sees the cute but rumpled guy sitting by himself in the
sand, he’s drawn to him. The more time they spend together, the less he wants the day to
end. They end up spending a few days together, those few days turn into weeks, and neither
is ready for their time together to end.

A lot of chemistry, and a little bit of luck make for an
interesting day at the beach that both men are reluctant to end. Time and distance could be
their biggest obstacle, but maybe some things are just meant to be. #meetcute

Excerpt

Slipping my shoes and socks off, I carried them with me to
the water’s edge. The water was warmer than it was on our side of the planet, but the last
time I’d been to the ocean had been near Eureka. The water was never warm there. I walked
out enough for the water to hit near my knee.

“Oi, mate. You don’t want to be going out there. It’s a
wicked rip. Pull you right out without warning and you’ll end up across the ditch in New
Zealand.” A very tanned, very blond guy about my age, wearing an aqua and dark blue shirt
with Lifeguard emblazoned on his chest, crossed his arms and planted his feet.

“It’s okay, I’m not going out far. I just wanted to see how
warm it was.”

“If I had a dollar for every time I’d heard that, I’d be a rich
man. Most that have said it, are now about fifty meters offshore.”

My head whipped in the direction he’d indicated, before he
burst out in laughter.

“Just messin’ with ya. But seriously, don’t go out past your
knees. Everyone thinks they can handle it, but it’ll drag you out before you can get your feet
under you.” He stood and waited for me to walk out of the water and waved when I relented
and walked back over to the grassy area.

Leaning my head back I let the heat of the sun warm my
skin as my feet dried off. The sound of the ocean and children playing on the beach were all I
could hear right now. The long flight started to weigh on me, and I knew if I kept my eyes
closed much longer, I’d be asleep. I still needed to find a place to stay so I slipped my shoes
on and walked toward the other end of the beach.

People were everywhere, and dogs, and cars, and even
what looked like a group of lifeguard trainees. “Hey, you up for some footy?” a guy with
long, curly blond hair that hung in soft waves around his face asked as he jogged
closer.

“Footy?”

I wasn’t sure exactly what he meant.

“Yeah, we can just toss it around.” He threw the football up
and caught it with a grin.

“Sure.” I stood and followed him down to where the sand
had been raked smooth. People were gathered around the area, but most were at the edges
of the immaculate sand. I set my

backpack down on the edge and followed him. Noticing he
was barefoot, I hurried back to take my shoes off.

As soon as I was on the sand again, he tossed the ball to me
and turned to run. I threw it back and he made an amazing diving catch. We both laughed as
he dusted off sand before tossing it back to me. “What’s your name?”

“I’m Ryan, what’s yours?”

“Ollie, Ollie Hughes.” He caught the ball and did some weird
jumping throwing thing that looked funny as hell but did the job.

I caught it and before I could toss it back, he was running at
me. At first, I didn’t realize what he was doing but then he tackled me. We rolled around
laughing until I was able to get away and run farther down the beach. When he got up and
started to come at me, I threw the ball to him and turned to chase him down. Both of us
laughed as we crashed together onto the sand and wrestled around to get the ball.

He got a grip on it and bolted away from me as a few
people near us clapped. “Oh, I see how it is now,” I yelled and gave chase. He ran around
other people that were sitting either in a chair or on a towel, and the ones standing tried to
move out of the way.

Finally, when he got to an open area, he turned around and
stopped with the ball tucked under his arm. “How long are you here for?”

“How do you know I’m not from here?” I asked.

Truth or…whoa, that’s not how this dare works!

Blurb

What happens when my big mouth writes a check it can’t cash while taunting my ex’s brother in a game of Truth or Dare? I end up with his tongue in my mouth. In my very straight, totally uninterested mouth.

While I don’t feel anything.

Nothing at all.

In fact, I barely noticed.

So, why can’t I stop thinking about it?

Truth or Darren features a troublemaker with good intentions, a guy who’s none too impressed with his sister’s ex, and an animosity that flares hotter than either of them could ever imagine–but which the townspeople of Granville, Nebraska, are all too happy to speculate about.

Excerpt

Darren caught my uneasy expression and smirked. “Oh, I’ve got the perfect dare.”

“Yeah?”

“I dare you to kiss a guy. And not just some peck. You have to mean it. Emulate Dawson over there and give it a hundred precent.”

“That’s the dare?”

“That’s it.”

I glanced around the group. “Any guy?”

His wide mouth quirked, eyes sparking with challenge and amusement. He thought he’d cornered me. Clearly, he didn’t know I was bi. I hadn’t come out until last year at Hayworth, and I hadn’t seen Darren in two years at least. “Yep. Any guy.”

“Even you?”

His grin slipped. “What?”

“I mean, you said any guy. You said you’re not scared of anything. And I know you’re not homophobic, right? You wouldn’t give me a dare like that because you think it’s a big deal to kiss a guy, right?”

Darren scoffed. “Pfft. What? No. I mean, I don’t think it’s a big deal. I can’t speak for what you might think of it.”

“Okay, then. I’ll take the dare and kiss you. Unless you’re gonna run scared when you’re in the hot seat?”

“Oh boy,” someone muttered behind me.

“This should be good,” someone else said with a small snicker.

Their comments washed over me as I stared down Darren. I’d come over here reluctantly, but his antagonism was exactly what I needed. I’d been brimming with rage for days, frustrated as my future plans were vaporized without warning, and Darren Rafferty made the perfect target.

He glared. “I don’t run from anything. Besides, it’s not like you’ve got the guts to kiss me.”

I barked a laugh. “You picked the wrong day to fuck with me.”

“Like I said, you don’t have the—”

I grabbed a fistful of his shirt and jerked him close, then slammed my mouth onto his. Darren stumbled into me, his hands clutching my waist as he caught his balance. His hard body pressed against mine, and heat lanced through me. Jesus, he was hot. I hated him, but he was so fucking gorgeous I couldn’t help but enjoy the kiss.

He gasped, startled, and I swept my tongue into his mouth. Darren had goaded me into this—and I was going to make the most of it. He tasted like Jack Daniel’s, which sent a flicker of guilt through me. He’d clearly been drinking. But he’d been clear-eyed when he’d challenged me, and I couldn’t seem to detach from his delectable mouth.

His tongue curled around mine, and my eyes rolled back in my head. I gripped his hair tighter, having no idea when I’d lifted my hands to touch him, and tried to maintain control of the kiss—but it was too late. Darren was in the driver’s seat now, and he relentlessly devoured my mouth, making me take everything he wanted to give as he kissed me back.

Wait a second. He was kissing me back.

What the fuck?

Shocked out of my lusty stupor, I jerked back. Darren’s eyes were wide and dark, a little intense as he stared at me. We were both breathing hard.

I was aware of the crowd of people watching us, all of them silent, as if waiting for all hell to break loose.

“Well,” he said, sounding surprisingly calm, “I guess I underestimated how far you’d go to prove me wrong.”

“No,” I said with a shit-eating grin. “You just failed to realize that daring me to kiss a guy is no dare at all.” I leaned in close and whispered. “I like men, Darren.”

He gaped. “Wh-what?”

“I’m bi, and you’re a dumbass,” I said. “I guess you didn’t get the memo.”

Center Logan Banks didn’t come to Miami looking for a best
friend.

He came for football and for a chance at
freedom—the freedom to live out of the closet.

But after a water main break, he lands an
unexpected roommate, the new Piranhas kicker, Dylan Leonard. Between practices, games,
and too many late nights on the couch, a best friend is exactly what he gets.

When Logan’s past rears its ugly head and
threatens to destroy the freedom he’s hoped for, Dylan becomes more than just a friend. He
becomes a lifeline.

But then their friendship gets incorrectly labeled as
something more, and Dylan shocks Logan by suggesting they play along with a fake
relationship.

Logan knows it’s off limits to fall in love with Dylan.
He’s supposed to be straight, he’s his best friend, his roommate, and his teammate. But the
closer they grow, and the more he and Dylan fake falling in love, the more real it
feels.

The more real Logan wants it to be.

Making a play for love is the biggest risk he’s ever
taken, but he wants it all and he wants it with Dylan.

Excerpt

Dylan’s jaw dropped. “You’ve never seen Star
Wars
?”

“Guilty as charged.”

“Well, first, we’re gonna remedy that ASAP,” Dylan
said with relish. “I can’t believe I get to pop your cherry.”

Logan froze, his hand still on the controller. “Uh,” he said.
“Hate to break it to you but that’s been done . . .”

But I could pop yours, that voice that didn’t want
to cooperate, inserted slyly. And now Logan was fucking thinking about it. A dark head,
between his heads, tongue flicking out uncertainly. A hand pressed to the middle of his
chest, as Dylan squirmed on his dick.

Stop. Do not cross Go.

“Your Star Wars cherry, silly,” Dylan said, laughing,
punching him lightly in the arm.

“Is that a thing?” If it was, then Logan wanted it to be Dylan
who did it. Logan wanted him to do all kinds of things.

It was a problem, even though he kept trying to pretend it
wasn’t.

“Sure, it can be,” Dylan said, one of those quicksilver grins
lighting up his whole face.

“So why this game?” Logan asked, trying to pluck the game
from Dylan’s fingers, but he was too quick, and pulled it away. “’Cause it’s easy?”

“Well, it’s simpler, sure, but it also requires less hand-eye
coordination,” Dylan said, and Logan shot him a glare. But Dylan only laughed. “We’re being
honest here, dude. Set you on a football field, and you’d destroy most everyone, but with a
video game controller in your hands?”

“Fine, fine, fine,” Logan said with a resigned sigh. He grabbed
for the game again, and Dylan wasn’t quite fast enough this time, and when Logan got ahold
of it, he didn’t let go.

Yanked both it and Dylan over the side of the
couch, and Logan froze as the other guy landed basically in his lap.

He 100% did not mean to freeze. It wasn’t in his nature to
freeze.

After all, they had a touchy-feely friendship. Logan had never
shied away from touching Dylan and vice versa. It worked for them.

But now he was in his lap.

And he wasn’t moving.

Logan could count every shade of green in Dylan’s eyes as they
stared at each other. His hand hovered right over Dylan’s back. He wanted to push him in,
pull him close, but no matter how touchy-feely they were, they weren’t in the
habit of embracing. Not like this.

Not with Dylan straddling him, not only wearing a pair of
athletic shorts each.

Then Dylan reached out, pressing a palm against Logan’s chest.
Right where his rose tattoo sat, right over his heart. Not pushing him away. Not using him to
get up. Just resting it there.

Like he couldn’t help it, he just wanted to touch.

You’re wrong. He doesn’t want to. Not like that. Not like
you want him to.

Logan opened his mouth to make a joke, but his brain was
empty, and nothing came out.

Dylan leaned forward a fraction. Licked his lips.

There was something soft and hazy and affectionate in his
gaze. Something curious.

And then he spoke. “Guess,” he said, voice low, “that your
reflexes really do suck, Banks.”

Blurb

The fast, furry, and furious! A lynx shifter, pursued by a cryptid trophy hunter. A wolf shifter desperate to rescue a lover who’s not just his fated mate—but his one true pairing across past lives. And a love that transcends time.

Lynx shifter Noah Wilson narrowly escaped being captured by the Huntsman. While recuperating in Fox Hollow, he meets his fated mate, wolf shifter Drew Lowe.

Noah has to return to Canada to finish filming his TV projects, so he and Drew visit when they can and come up with creative solutions to their long-distance relationship. Noah and Drew are sure they’re meant for each other and start making plans.

Drew’s dreams make him wonder if he and Noah are more than fated mates—could they be a true pairing, destined to find each other lifetime after lifetime?

Then Noah accidentally records a murder, and the killer is on his trail. Can he elude a master tracker and reach the safety of Fox Hollow, or will he and Drew have to wait to find happiness in another life?

Again is a thrill-packed MM shifter romance adventure full of sexy shifters, hurt/comfort, one true pairing, reincarnation, sincere psychics, hunky mechanics, first responders, a sexy wildlife photographer, found family, and fated mates.

Excerpt

“I wish you could see this view in person—except for how cold it is.” Noah snapped a photo that didn’t do the colors of dawn justice, and sent it with his text to Drew.

He waited for a reply and realized Drew probably wasn’t awake yet. No one in their right mind is up at this hour.

He’d made the best of the cramped hotel room, knowing from experience to bring an extra blanket, good pillow, books, and power strips. Hotels never had enough outlets to charge his cameras. Fortunately, travel wasn’t a constant, but staying overnight to get the right light or have time to set up cameras happened fairly often.

Will that be a problem with Drew? Will he resent my photography? It’s a demanding job.

Noah cleaned his lenses and checked his batteries as he packed his day bag. Travel made it easy to find overnight company without entanglement, and he’d long ago grown tired of waking up alone. He’d had a serious relationship back in film school, which fizzled after graduation. There were a few boyfriends who lasted more than a month or two, but his irregular hours always ended up being more than anyone wanted to deal with for long.

Can it be different with Drew? We felt such an immediate bond—I’ve never had a connection like that with anyone. It’s like we’ve known each other forever.

“Of course. We’re fated mates,” his lynx reminded him, as if Noah could forget.

He smiled, thinking of their conversation that ended only a few hours ago. It wasn’t just the sex—although that was combustible in a way Noah had never experienced before. Everything took on a different light when it involved Drew. Talking about the trivial activities of the day wasn’t boring. Sharing a movie or even reading the same book and talking about their reactions now felt satisfying and fun.

I’m a Cancer—we’re protective and defend our family. Except I don’t really have any.

Noah didn’t have many living relatives. His father had vanished when he was young, and his mother died two years ago from a bad heart. He had a brother and sister, but they drifted apart, and Noah hadn’t heard from them in years. He wasn’t sure he even had valid addresses for them.

Drew is my mate. He’s my family now. And he has Russ and Liam and their friends. A pack. Someday, they’ll be my pack.

Clowder, his lynx sniffed. Lynxes have a clowder, not a pack.

Sounds like soup.

Clowder is not chowder, silly human. But we could vote to let Drew be an honorary lynx and join.

Vote? Who—you and me?

We are the only ones in our clowder now. It would be nice to add our mate—even if he is a dog.

Wolf.

Canine.

I’ve fallen hard. And it should scare me. But it doesn’t. When I worry that he might not feel the same, I can’t breathe

Who is the man with the gun? Friend or foe? Enemy
or lover?

Ethan

I saw my way out and took it. I never dreamed it would be
complicated by someone as distracting as Gabriel.

Gabriel

I thought my cabin was safe in a snowstorm until
he
arrived. Shivering, blue with cold and armed with a gun. The hottest thing to ever happen to
me.

Horror writer Gabriel’s worst nightmare is about to come
true…

Alaska is home to Gabriel Black two months of the year
when he retreats to his isolated cabin to write. But with his relationship on the rocks, life is
treating him badly. He doesn’t think things can get any worse when a storm strikes, keeping
him snowed in, but he’s wrong.

His solitude is invaded by armed intruder Ethan, his origin a
mystery. Ethan is an enigma, a man surely on the run, maybe a dangerous criminal, but
Gabriel is drawn to Ethan’s broken spirit and damaged soul. Ethan is so much more than he
first appears and Gabriel wants to know what he hides.

Heat ignites between Gabriel and Ethan and the lines
between captive and captor soon start to blur. What secrets is Ethan keeping and will Gabriel
be prepared to risk all for him?

Trigger warnings: Scenes of violence and murder. Mentions of rape. Homophobic
language. Strong language and sexual scenes.

Excerpt

Dense, fat snowflakes fell from the dark sky. Caught by a
raging wind, they were whipped up into a vicious storm. Gabriel Black glanced out the
kitchen window into the night. He wasn’t too concerned about being snowed in. He had
plenty of food and the cabin was snug. It was par for the course here and conducive to his
work. He had a sentence whirling around and around inside his head like the snowflakes
outside. He tested it aloud, changing the words, listening to the sound on his
tongue.

Gabriel cursed, startled out of his reverie as the toaster
coughed up two slices of blackened bread and the smoke alarm kicked in with an ear-
piercing shriek. He grabbed the key to the French window and fumbled a moment before he
yanked it open. A blast of freezing night air chilled him instantly to the bone. Shivering, he
waved a dish towel under the smoke alarm.

A flash of movement registered at the periphery of his
vision, black against the snow lying thick on the porch outside. Startled, he turned just as a
tall figure sidled through the window and levelled a gun at him.

Gabriel froze. Icy fingers crept down his back as he stared at
the man in his home. The intruder was in his late thirties, a couple of inches taller than
Gabriel and broader across the shoulders and chest. He wore a thin shirt, jeans and flimsy
canvas shoes, despite the weather outside being at least ten below. His untidy black hair was
wet with snow. His pale, attractive face was dominated by large green eyes. A few days’
worth of dark stubble lined his jaw. His lips and nose were blue and he trembled violently,
his teeth chattering together.

“Knock that off.” He raised his voice over the annoying shrill
of the smoke alarm.

Gabriel glared at him. He wafted the towel again and again
until the alarm shut off, leaving sudden silence broken only by the sound of the intruder
slamming the window shut and pocketing the key.

The two men faced each other across the kitchen. Gabriel’s
heart surged with terror. All the heat had deserted the kitchen after being open to the
elements of the frozen north for only a few seconds. He wasn’t sure if it was fear or cold that
made him shake. He looked down the barrel of the gun and wondered if tonight would be
his last. It was almost funny. He’d expected south central Alaska in the middle of a howling
snowstorm to be the safest haven you could find. Who could have predicted a half-dressed
man to suddenly hijack Gabriel’s perfect solitude? Who in their right mind was out in
this?

He found his voice and spoke far more bravely than he felt.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”

The man stepped closer, right into Gabriel’s personal space.
His face was like stone, but still he couldn’t stop his shivering. “You don’t get to ask
questions. I want some dry clothes.” He prodded Gabriel hard with the gun in his chest.
“Move.”

Gabriel turned around. He led the intruder through the
living room. The crackling fire warmed him again. He reached the stairs and climbed on
wooden legs, wondering if he could turn suddenly and surprise the man, kicking the gun
from his hand. But his uninvited guest followed so closely behind him, their bodies were
almost touching and when he reached the top, Gabriel felt the gun digging into the small of
his back.

When they entered the bedroom, his guest gestured at the
wardrobe. “Come on. I want the thickest sweater you got.”

Gabriel chose some lounge pants and a hooded fleece-lined
sweater that he wore to chop logs for the fire.

“Underwear and two pairs of socks,” the man with the gun
said.

Gabriel plucked the items from a chest of drawers. He
threw the lot into a heap on the bed and glared once more at the intruder. The guy didn’t
look remotely intimidated. If anything, he appeared amused.

“Stand over by the window while I change. Don’t even think
of trying anything because I swear I will shoot you in the head before you can
move.”

Gabriel positioned himself as directed so the man stood
between him and the door. He watched as the guy placed the gun on the nightstand. The
key to the kitchen window joined it. Then he pulled something from the back pocket of his
pants and laid them down too. A pair of handcuffs.

What the fuck?

A fallen angel with a broken heart. The third horseman
who rejected him. A love that can destroy them both.

Blurb

Punished for choosing love over faith, the Archangel of
Kindness emerged from a century of confinement enshrined in darkness, a shell of his
former self. Rejected by the very Being for whom he sold his soul, the last threads of his
sanity were stripped away. He is now Lucifer, the King of Hell.

Famine’s choices have only ever caused suffering for those
he loves. He struggles with guilt, blaming himself for what Lucifer has become. He’s certain
keeping his distance is the only way he can ensure Lucifer falls no further.

But together or apart, on the same side or not, it doesn’t
matter. They are forever bound, forced to endure a never-ending loop of anguish. Betrayed
and surrounded by new threats, they find themselves relying on each other while battling
their own demons. But soon a choice must be made: allow their love to destroy them both
or embrace it before the world ends.

Famine is the
third book in the Four Horsemen series. This book is
not a standalone and must be read in order.

Content Warnings: Religious themes, extreme violence,
gore, and others.

Arachnophobia warning: There is also a dog-sized pet
spider named Paul who just wants to be loved.

This is a paranormal, second chance, lovers-to-enemies-
to-lovers, MM romance filled with snark and morally questionable characters. It ends with a
HFN and a mild plot cliffhanger.

Excerpt

“Please don’t make this harder than it needs to be,” Famine said, his
voice low. “You know something.”

“I know many things,” Lucifer said. He slowly circled Famine, his tail
dragging on the concrete behind him. It slid over Famine’s boots, scratching lines into the
black.

Famine didn’t follow the movement, even when his instincts screamed
at him not to let Lucifer stand at his back. He had trusted Samael with everything in him, and
he wanted—wanted so badly—to be able to trust Lucifer, even though he knew it was futile.
Lucifer still loved him but that love had been contorted, turned to something dark and
nothing like the beautiful love they had once shared. He was just as likely to stab Famine in
the back as he was to kiss it. A deep, dark, twisted part of Famine didn’t care which one he
did, so long as Lucifer touched him. When Lucifer touched him with any kind of intent,
everything in Famine settled. The world righted itself, and the turmoil that he lived with
every day seemed less, more manageable.

Sharp nails slid across his back. They didn’t dig enough to draw blood,
but even through the fabric of his shirt Famine felt it. He flinched, even as warmth trailed
out from the places Lucifer touched.

“I have so many secrets, Famine,” Lucifer whispered. He pressed his
nose against Famine’s nape, breathing in deeply. Wet flicked across his skin—Lucifer’s
tongue.

“I gather them, so you’re forced to come to me. To beg.”

Goodreads

Note: Legacy isn’t a
romance
—it’s adventure/suspense with strong romantic elements. The two main
romances in the book are between Gideon (sea captain) and Ramon (privateer) right after
the American Revolution, and between Teag and Anthony in current time, and while the
romances play an important part in the plot, the focus is on the action/mystery/supernatural
elements. (Gideon and Ramon work forbidden magic to bind their souls together forever to
protect the coast from a malicious demigod, and because they never want to risk being
separated in the afterlife.) There are two secondary romances, an MM one between Dante
and Coltt (privateers in the Revolutionary era) and between Cassidy and Kell (MF but nothing
beyond a few kisses and cuddles). There is no explicit/on-page sex. Both Dante and Gideon
are bisexual, and those pairings are important to the plot.

Also—there are
massive crossovers between Legacy (and
the whole Deadly Curiosities series) and my Morgan Brice series, especially Badlands,
Treasure Trail, Witchbane and Fox Hollow.

Excerpt

Nestled in southwest Alberta’s rolling foothills lies the
quaint little town of Cardston—the Miller and Bradshaw families’ hometown. Cardston
straddled the Lee Creek valley and served as a shopping and tourist hub for southwest
Alberta, and was the unrivalled centre of Mormon life in Canada. Three-quarters of the
town’s residents belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, while the other
quarter was Catholic and Baptist. The town’s social life revolved around family life, team
sports and religion.

Greg Miller was the captain of the town football team, the
Cardston Cougars, and the proud son of John and Teresa Miller. Greg’s parents owned the
only shoe store in town, where Greg helped on weekends and summer holidays.

Greg and his teammates had been busy preparing for their
next big game against the Calgary Golden Bears; it was the Cougars’ opportunity to bring
back home the trophy they lost to the Bears three years ago. Unfortunately, John and Teresa
couldn’t be there to cheer on their son—John had his business to run, and since Greg would
be in Calgary, his mother would have to be at the store instead. Sales had been down, and
closing for even one day could cause the family hardship in the coming months. Tyler had
attended Greg’s practices ever since they met. You could tell in Tyler’s eyes how proud he
was of his boyfriend―his secret boyfriend. Unfortunately, Greg and Tyler needed to be
discreet and hide when they wanted to meet, a drawback of living in a small religious
town.

It was Greg’s last year of high school, and if his team won
the game, it could mean a scholarship for him at the University of Alberta and a golden
chance to play for the Golden Bears. Over dinner, Greg asked his parents once more if they
were sure they couldn’t make the game.

His father looked at him and said, “Sorry, Greg. I wish we
could go, but we can’t close the business. You know how important November is to
us.”

“Can’t you ask Steve to cover for you?”

“No. Steve has decided to move on, and even if he was still
with us, I don’t have the money to pay for him to replace me. I’m sorry, son, you’ll have to
do this one on your own.”

“You don’t need us there,” his mother said. “You’ll do just
fine.”

“I know. It would have been nice to have you guys there,
that’s all. But I understand,” Greg said.

“Besides,” his mother said, “if we went, we’d need a hotel
room and Calgary’s expensive.”

Greg nodded and lowered his head. He quietly finished his
meal, took his empty plate to the dishwasher, and went to his room. He turned on his
computer and browsed the internet for anything and nothing, then went and laid in his bed,
staring at the ceiling. Bummer. I’ll probably be the only guy whose parents won’t be
there.

He texted Tyler about meeting up. Thirty minutes later,
Greg stopped by the living room and told his parents he was going out. He hopped on his
bike and met his boyfriend, Tyler, at Lee Creek Park.

Unlike Greg, who was a Catholic, Tyler was Baptist. Tyler
thought being Baptist was very similar to other denominations, but their parents thought
differently. A typical week for Tyler was packed with religion, beginning with a seminar at six
in the morning, youth group on Wednesdays, and bible school on Sunday. In high school,
Tyler was referred to as the boy who didn’t drink, smoke, or hook up with girls. There was
nothing he’d like more than to be like the other guys his age, but his religion forbade it, as
did his parents.

Tyler was already at the park when Greg arrived, sitting
near the creek, leaning against a tree and lost in his thoughts. Greg quietly approached him
from behind the tree and grabbed one of his arms.

“What the…” Tyler jerked his arm away, and Greg burst out
laughing.

“You scared me,” Tyler said.

“How’s it going, dude?”

“Okay. And you? Ready for the big game?”

“I think so, but it’s a bummer my folks can’t come.”

“Oh, that’s too bad.”

“Yeah, but what can you do?” Greg said with a
shrug.

“Would you like me to be there? I can be your cheering
section in the audience,” Tyler said with a smile.

“You would do that?”

“Of course.”

“That would be so cool. We could rent a room for after the
game.”

“Won’t you have one already?”

“Yeah, but we’re four of us in there, and I don’t think the
coach would let you crash. Besides,” Greg said, leaning forward towards Tyler, “we wouldn’t
be able to do this.” The two of them kissed.

“You have a point there,” Tyler said. “I’ll ask my parents to
reserve a room for me. You need to keep your cash for university.”

“Will they let you go?” Greg asked, excited at the prospect
of being with his boyfriend alone where no one knew them.

“Don’t worry about that. I’ll be there to support you,” Tyler
said with confidence.

“I can’t wait for us to be at university so we can be
together. I’m tired of hiding,” Greg said, looking at Tyler.

“Me too. You’ll have to wait, though, because you’re a
school year ahead of me.” Tyler grinned.

“Right.” Greg made a sad face. “But you can join me the
year after,” he said with a smile.

“Think of what would happen if our parents found out
about us,” Tyler said, lost in his thoughts.

“That’s a scary thought. Come here.” Greg placed his hands
on Tyler’s shoulder and lowered him on his lap.

Tyler rested his head on Greg’s lap, and Greg bent over and
placed his lips on Tyler’s.
