An old-fashioned britches

ripper with a tooth and claw twist.

Blurb

An old-fashioned britches ripper with a tooth and claw twist.

Being the prince of all werewolves sucks.

Almost ten years ago, I did my duty and married a female
even though I was desperately in love with an older man. When she died giving birth to a
child who could never take the throne, I ran. I left home, shirking my responsibilities,
knowing eventually they’d catch up to me. Well, they have. My father now insists I marry a
female half my age so I can father a
proper heir and secure our rule over the
First House for several more generations.

Being chosen to serve the king is a dream come true.

Even though I grew up poor, I worked hard to support my
mother. When my mentor chose
me to travel to America with the king, I
was unbelievably honored to meet his son, the future ruler of all werewolves. I didn’t know
how to react when I first laid eyes on Prince Caster, but he cast a spell over me with a single
glance, and my life changed forever. I was not only looking at my future king, but the man
made just for me. The moment his lips met mine, I knew this story would end horribly…in
either heartache or death.

Denying destiny is a terrible idea.

As desperately as I want to ignore my attraction to the
common brown wolf, I cannot. The moment I saw the warm glow of his amber eyes, the
need to take him into my arms and drag him off to my bed was overwhelming. Alas, I have a
duty to perform, and it doesn’t involve the man Mother Nature made only for me.

This story won’t end well…I just know it.

Night of the Blood Red Moon is a gay romance with an HEA
ending.

Excerpt

I was a complete and utter fool. The moment Lady Penelope stepped out of her limousine
wearing three-thousand-dollar shoes, carrying a matching purse, I knew my mating with
Prince Caster was doomed. She looked breathtaking standing beside the car with her
mother at her side. She looked up at the prince who stood beside his father on the porch
watching as her father walked down the steps to greet his wife and daughter. The smile
which spread across her luscious cherry-red lips made her whole face light up. She
practically shimmered.

I’d never seen a more beautiful creature in my life.

The diamonds around her neck, around her wrists, and on her fingers were no match for the
sparkle in her bright blue eyes. They were framed with black lashes, a much darker shade
than the light blonde of her hair which was twined in a ribboned braid and piled on top of
her head. When she smiled at her father who bent to kiss her rosy cheeks, the whole world
seemed to light up. Much worse than all of this were the thoughts that I heard in her head.

“In person, he’s so much more handsome than the portrait he sent. Oh…look at him. My
mate is the most regal and kind man on earth. How could I be so lucky to have been blessed
by such a wonderful soul. I hope he loves me. I already love him.”

Her unspoken words made the tatters of my heart sink. She wasn’t horrible at all. She was a
lovestruck girl, and I’d never felt so lost in my entire life.

“Emory, get control of your thoughts. If I can hear them, others will. You’re slipping,” Claudio
whispered beside me. We stood on the semi-circular driveway in front of the inn with most
of the other servants who were ordered to stop whatever they were doing to come and
witness the arrival of the future queen of werewolves. I glanced over at him, noting how
handsome my best friend looked, standing up straight and tall with everyone else.

All in all, there had to be fifty servants standing at attention on either side of the crescent
driveway. We looked good, well-groomed, and dressed in our best uniforms of black pants,
long-sleeved white shirts, and black vests. Some of the senior staff wore suit coats. Claudio
and I didn’t. It wasn’t required. The females wore their hair pulled up and the males’ shoes
were all buffed to a high polish.

“You’re right. Sorry.” I nodded to my best friend, and then turned back, knowing by the
frown on Claudio’s face, how miserable my expression had to be as we watched this farce
playing out on the driveway. Only hours before, I’d woken in my lover’s arms, and he was
now leaning down to take Lady Penelope’s delicate hands in his and buss both of her
cheeks. I felt a sob rising in my throat and choked it back, relieved when Claudio’s hand
slipped into mine and squeezed my fingers.

Tears burned behind my eyes as I watched Caster straighten and smile at Penelope before
offering her his elbow. She blushed prettily and took the offered elbow with both small
hands. As he waited for her to turn, he lifted his head and stared right past her much shorter

form. When his ice blue gaze met mine, I felt a pang of longing run through me. As our gazes
met, I thought I recognized a similar look in his eyes but just as quickly as it had appeared, it
was gone, replaced with the dark glare he now wore. I trembled in Claudio’s hold, and he
crushed my fingers in his hand just as Caster dragged his gaze from mine and turned away,
leading his bride into the house.

“Breathe, Emory. It’s over,” Claudio whispered.

I gasped, suddenly feeling so lightheaded, I thought for sure I’d faint. I looked over at him
and recognized the pitying expression he wore on his face. I nodded.

“I’m fine. I’m…good.” My lower lip trembled, and my eyes filled with tears, belying my
words.

A misfit
wolf

A guilt-ridden
vampire

A chilling
mystery

Blurb

Mongrel, a creature more wolf than man, leads a lonely life
on the fringes of pack society—until the night a handsome vampire shows up with a
mysterious request.

Bowie—a vampire cursed to a life of endless
nights—maintains close ties with his human family. When young girls in their village go
missing, he must act quickly. But to find them, he’ll need to convince the local werewolf
pack to loan him their best tracker—a wolf known as the Mongrel.

Though he hates the slur, Andras is used to being called
Mongrel. When Bowie refuses to refer to him by anything but his given name, Andras can’t
help a flicker of unexpected trust toward the stranger. He volunteers to help Bowie, risking
banishment.

Can two tender-hearted men overcome their traumatic
pasts and work together to rescue the girls before it’s too late? Or will the world’s most
prolific killer snuff the flames of their passion along with the lives of her captives?

***

This steamy love story spans the country of Hungary
as Andras and Bowie journey through cities and wilderness on their quest to right a killer’s
wicked wrongs. Mongrel features a sweetly possessive werewolf, a cinnamon roll of a
vampire, and the worst serial killer in history. A surprisingly fluffy MM Paranormal/Historical
Romance considering the subject matter.

HEA guaranteed with loads of laughs along the way
and no cliffhanger ending!

Excerpt

The Kingdom of Hungary,
1610

I watch the ground pass by beneath my paws
rather than risk meeting the eyes of the other wolves. They probably aren’t looking anyway,
having better things to do than greet the

mongrel
, even on a full moon. I’ve spent so long
pretending not to care it’s almost worked. Who needs them? Not me.

I give a full-body shake to settle my fur how I like it
and amble toward the heart of the village, a cool night breeze keeping me company. The
chattering of insects pings from the forest beyond a row of humble cottages as I continue
past.

Anticipating tonight’s run has me eager. I imagine
the frantic heartbeat of my prey as I target my dinner. Pent-up energy dances in my muscles,
tickling every nerve and rumbling in my chest.

I love the hunt. Nothing else in my life brings the
satisfaction I take from stalking, chasing, and tearing into my prize. It’s one of the few
activities where the others tolerate my presence. Though they’ll never admit I’m the better
predator, they’re always willing to devour the feast I provide.

Only Ava treats me as equal. She’s too old and frail
to hunt for herself these days, but I’ll be sure to bring her a choice portion. Nothing beats a
fresh meal, and she deserves the pleasure more than anyone.

It wasn’t always like this. I had friends once when
childhood still sang with innocence and the world had yet to slam its doors on me. But
remembering better times only brings sorrow, so I move forward to whatever tonight might
hold.

Voices sound from fifty paces ahead. Odd because
most of the pack would normally have shifted by dusk. Among them, a voice I don’t
recognize floats to my ears.

“I must speak with your alpha,” says a smooth
tenor, calm, though his timbre vibrates with urgency. “The matter is vital.”

Risking an upward glance, I scan the gathering.
Jolan and Ozor, the pack’s enforcers, stand in their human forms facing the speaker, both
tense and braced for a fight. But the stranger’s posture isn’t threatening. He’s neat, wearing
charcoal stockings under a crisp blue tunic. Knee-high black boots gleam with a recent

polish. Spine straight, shoulders back, weight settled in the heels, not the toes. Nut-brown
hair hangs tied at his nape, most of it hidden beneath a fashionable black hat. If his features
weren’t puckered with annoyance, he might be handsome.

I creep closer on silent paws, ears flicked
forward.

“We’re busy,” barks Ozor. “Or hadn’t you noticed
the moon? Come back another night.”

The stranger’s lips part, but before he can reply,
Farkas storms through his front door.

Clad only in a pair of worn tan breeches, the pack
alpha thunders down the porch stairs and into the commons. Even barefoot, Farkas is
intimidating, towering head and shoulders over the others. His black eyes land on the
stranger in a threatening glower, but the man isn’t shaken.

“You’re the alpha, I presume?” The stranger
extends a hand, his movement graceful, as if he’s been invited to a friendly tea instead of
invading hostile werewolf territory on a full moon.

Farkas ignores the proffered hand. “Your kind isn’t
welcome here.”

Your kind.
Wondering what that means, I inch forward so I can scent him for myself.

The stranger returns his arm to his side, fingers
curled but not fisted. “And you have my apologies, but this couldn’t be avoided.” His
eyebrows arch as he inclines his head. “We must speak.”

I sniff the air. His scent is masked by soaps.
Lavender was used for his clothes, rose for his skin and hair, but beneath the added
fragrance lies the spiced scent of blood—his own, yes, but also…someone else’s? That’s
odd.

“Then speak,” growls Farkas. “What do you want
from me, vampire?”

A vampire!
I’ve never seen one before. He looks so…human. Fragile. Not what I’d expect of a
blood-drinking night terror at all.

Excerpt
Hands grabbed my ankle, and I collapsed to the ground, barely time to catch myself on my forearms. How the hell had I missed that alpha lying near a quilt waiting for two challengers to end their fight? Upon seeing me, he must have decided that I was more desirable and snatched me instead. He made quick work of trying to get at my first claim mark. I growled at him before I went limp. Papa had taught me a trick that just might work with this alpha. He didn’t look too smart. He leered down at me like a hungry predator about to eat a willing meal. He leaned over me, whispering.
“You submit so beautifully. You’re such a beautiful beta.” The moment he was near, I shoved my fingers into his eyes. He yelped back, clutching his face. Quickly I rolled out from under him and darted to my feet, running with all I had.
Another alpha spotted me and came at me from the side. The previous alpha—now raving mad at what I had done to him—gained on me from behind. My quilt was located at the top of a cliff to the east. But I was getting closer.
I wanted to yell for help from Don. I mouthed the words, but my voice didn’t work.
Yet another alpha charged me. I saw a beta who had been pinned by him. Looking relieved, she dashed to her feet and made it back to her quilt. Her alpha gave her stone-cold eyes and turned away from her. While the alpha hadn’t thrown her beta out, it looked like she might. The beta got to her knees. Going over, she fell at her alpha’s feet, kissing them, rolling onto her belly. It nagged me that I might have to do that for Don as well. Either way, I had no time to watch the other beta and her alpha or think about the consequences that awaited me at my quilt.
A fourth alpha blocked my path. Shit. I was winded and tired. He jumped, tackling me to the ground. As he took me down, the other alpha jumped on him from behind. The one attacking from the side jumped in as well. I was smashed underneath them as they bit and clawed, trying to kill each other and get to me. I could barely breathe. I saw my quilt through an opening between their bodies.
Don was sniffing the other betas approvingly.
No! I wasn’t going to lose to any of them, and I certainly wasn’t going to let any of these assholes claim me. I decided to use their fighting to my benefit. Crawling through the moving tangle of bodies, arms, and legs, I squeezed my way out of the mass. I was a lot smaller than any of them, so I was able to fit. Had I been taller, it would have been impossible.
One of them realized what I was doing and grabbed my ankle, sinking his claws into my skin. Yelping, I kicked as hard as I could and freed myself. I got to my feet the quickest I ever had and raced up the side of the cliff. I saw my quilt only several meters away. I could make it.
Don glanced up from the beta he sniffed. The damned thing had the gall to roll around on my quilt. If the beta won their challenge and the alpha accepted them, the quilt now belonged to the new beta. Jealousy and something else flared up inside me. Rage. I wanted that beta gone—wanted all those betas off my quilt, but particularly that one, probably because of all of them, she had the most of Don’s attention.
I met Don’s gaze as one of the alphas chasing me grabbed my ankle, and I fell into the dirt. It hurt a lot, but I wasn’t about to stop. Head-banging him—and thanking every mosh pit I had ever been in—I crawled away from the alpha. On hands and knees, I made it to my quilt. A second alpha grabbed me the moment my fingers snagged the fabric. I didn’t let go.
“Get off! Don!” Would he leave me to be claimed by one of these savages? He had the right to. I had left him of my own free will. He was under no obligation to help me. But…he’d said he loved me?
The alpha punched my side, and I gasped, letting go of the quilt. I knew what he planned to do by instinct. Without thinking, I covered the back of my neck over the final claiming spot. Fangs tore into my fingers and the back of my hand, tearing flesh and muscles, and sinking into my bones. One of his fangs succeeded in going between my thumb and index finger, piercing my skin.
Agony tore through my body worse than any pain I had ever experienced. It hurt straight down to my soul. Was this the bond I had with Don being broken? I had heard it was the most painful thing a beta could experience, being claimed after they already had an alpha, even one who was still in the process of claiming them. Don and I had gotten further than I ever realized. I screamed as much as my trapped body allowed. Blood covered my hand. He bit, again and again, trying to pull my hand away.
“Don, please! I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Please! I’m begging you!” Words spilled from my mouth. I had no power over them. My insides, my head, my heart, every pore on my body burned. I needed my alpha. This new challenger was succeeding in removing my death grip. Was this it? Did I finally push Don too far? Would I end up with a much worse fate? This terrible werewolf most likely lived on the streets. Maybe he would even turn me into a sex slave to earn some money. “Don…please…”

Chapter 1

The Outlands

Yokohama Japan 21’

Ryu Suzuki is rotten.

Like all forbidden fruit, they say, he appears lush with deliciousness, but his insides are the color brown, sodden with the foul stench of bacteria. They are black and blue they say, slimy green, covered with rot and deterioration. It’s disgusting to look at.

The fruit is shriveled up, with pus oozing through the thick skin. On the outside he looks perfectly normal, shining—shimmering in the light, deceiving everyone.

Ryu is the picture of ripening fruit, ample with flavor, ready to be tasted and explored by anyone who dared. Conversely, among other fruits, he would never let on his infectious disease until it was too late, and it spread.

They say Ryu Suzuki is indeed rotten to the core.

His bitter hands grip the headboard as the man above moves forcefully. The durable bend and twists of his hips make him choke violently, back arching off the bed, pale skin shining in the moonlight.

His hair sprawls like a black curtain, long and silky in the sheets. Earlier that day, it had been upon him, the slick and fever of desire, so ripe and deep it made him wrench in anguish.

Ryu found the closest Alpha, decent size, large and empowering, and released his intoxicating scent. No Alpha could ever resist. Ryu lured him into his tiny apartment, no more the size of a small box, with the bathroom and kitchen all being in one spot.

The Alpha didn’t ask questions, he tossed Ryu onto the bed, tearing off his clothes in a deep rage that would later consume him in his rut.

No kisses. No words of any kind.

Just lips, teeth, and skin.

Fuck—the man licks down the pale column of his neck, lapping at the skin, tonguing his glans, causing passion to tear through him.

He comes again for the fifth time that evening, soaking the Alpha and the sheets. This goes on for several more hours. When it’s over, they are both covered in sweat, the stench of sex and freesia filling the room.

The Alphas knot dies down.

And Ryu knows what’s coming next. The Alpha stands, barely letting the air cool around them, throwing on his tight white t-shirt and jeans, his physique muscular, arms rippling and straining against the fabric.

He isn’t bad looking.

Just not at all Ryu’s type.

“You got a mate?” The Alpha asks.

They all did. Ryu ignores the question, lazily stroking his flat stomach, noting the sharp arch of his hip bones. He hasn’t eaten in days.

“Silent type eh?” The Alpha probes. “Look…. I only did this because you seemed desperate.”

That’s what they all say. Ryu wants to crackle in maniacal laughter. He doesn’t though, his eyes watch coolly, like a feline.

“You have a mate,” he continues. “I can tell. Your Māku is strong, very strong. He must be a powerful Alpha. You shouldn’t be wandering around here without him. Whatever happened between you two… it doesn’t matter…the stench of another Alpha on his Omega is enough to drive one mad…”

Isn’t that what Ryu wants? To drive his Alpha mad? He turns his head away dismissively. This conversation is over.

A beta in an oppressive werewolf society must participate in a mating ceremony where alphas hunt their future mates.

Blurb

As a beta in Wereduin society, Fern has no choice but to be mated when he comes of age. The ideal beta wereduin was subservient to their alpha, bears young, and knows their place in society.

Fern isn’t like that.

Rather than become an extension of his alpha, Fern wants to play in his band, hang out with his friends, and stay himself.

Now of age, Fern is to be placed in the Offering—an annual ceremony where alphas hunt and claim their beta mates. And whose attention does Fern attract? None other than Donovan Blackfang, a Highborne alpha who will stop at nothing but to claim Fern’s heart, body, and soul.

Excerpt

Someone grabbed the nape of my neck. Shit, no! Why hadn’t I paid more attention to my surroundings?

This alpha male was stout and gray. His jagged claws dug into my shoulder, and it ripped a cry from my throat. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw another beta. This alpha must have been cornering her before I showed up. She didn’t look back at me as she made her escape. The alpha who had me could have come from my worst nightmares. He had a large scar across his eye. His thick, weather-worn hide told me he’d been at this game for a while. He could be my papa’s age, not that age mattered for werewolves, but his face was truly menacing. The glee I found in his glowing red eyes terrified me. Veins riddled his muscular physique. One of his ears had been chewed off. He gripped my shoulder, tearing my skin. I clawed at his hands, face, biting wherever I could as he forced me onto the ground.

I felt sure I was a goner when he was knocked off of me. Growling surrounded us. It was the large, black alpha that had taken on the slaver. He snarled at the alpha who had been about to rape me. Slowly, I crawled away on my hands and knees. That was when he turned his fangs on me, growling. He didn’t want me to leave, as if he already felt some ownership of me. Something in his eyes halted me and trapped my breath in my throat. I shook my head rapidly.

No!

There was no way I would be claimed tonight. And certainly not by a male. I took off running, leaving them to their fight.

It was over shockingly quick. The dark alpha won. My alpha. It confused me when I momentarily thought of him as mine. My body wanted to submit. Arousal grew heavy in my groin, heating up my body.

Hell, no!

Instincts be damned, I was not born so I could have some male alpha’s pups.

The black alpha picked up speed.

Just then, two alpha males sprang from either side of the woods. I ducked low, and they collided into each other. I dodged around them. The left one snatched me back before the alpha on the right knocked him to the ground.

Both alphas were beautiful—if I allowed myself to think something like that about the same sex. One was a scarlet red, while the other a golden bronze. Hopefully, the two would also stop the black alpha who still followed me, and I could make a getaway.

Both tried, not wanting to let a challenger slip by.

I dragged out a relieved sigh. Part of me was disappointed, and that part scared me. The rest of me was thankful. I didn’t want any of them to win—especially the strong dark alpha.

It was apparent by their beauty that all three alphas fighting over me were from the upper-class. But my eye was drawn to the dark one—jet black with those piercing neon-blue eyes and riddled, muscular physique. Of the three, he was the most handsome. Shaking my head and trying to remove those unwanted thoughts about the beautiful alphas fighting for me, I left them to battle.

When I heard them following me, I stole a glance over my shoulder. My heart stopped. Both the scarlet and golden-bronze alphas chased behind me. The dark werewolf must have been beaten. My heart sank. I wanted to slap myself. Why did I feel so let down?

I ran blindly through the forest and over the rocks until I backed myself against a cliff. Both werewolves approached me, snarling. I retreated as far as I could go before I drew my fangs. There was no way I was going down without a fight.

Perhaps they formed an alliance because they no longer fought each other. Instead, they homed in on me. Was I about to be claimed by two males?

How would they take me? I only had one opening. Would they both try to fit? My body trembled, but my beta brain started to submit. It craved having the alphas’ cocks inside me.

Backing away, I shook my head and crouched low. They sprang at me, but before they could touch me, a black shadow leaped from the cliff over my head. He landed in front of me.

There he is again!

The black alpha.

Gratitude overwhelmed me, and I could do nothing but stare at him. I wanted this alpha. I ached inside. Precum dripped from my hard cock. I wanted him inside of me.

Violently, I shook my head. No. I did not want to be claimed by anyone tonight. I found a small opening created by their fighting and snuck out. The black alpha growled at me, and I couldn’t stop my shiver. He wanted me to wait for him. He wanted me to let him claim me. Already, it felt like he had his claws around my heart.

Moonrise will never be the same.

Blurb

A werewolf with a death wish bargains with a hunter for salvation.

Justin has spent several lifetimes atoning for the violent nature of his curse. A mindless angry beast several nights a month, he carries a burden of blood for past sins. Tired and lonely, he’s seeking an end to his torment.

Vincent bears the curse, though only by half. A hybrid, he hunts those of his brethren who let their monsters take over. And he’s hell bent on destroying them all, until he’s forced to deal with one who’s begging for peace. Except deliverance wears many guises.

Their desire for redemption erupts in a fiery passion drawing them closer together.

Excerpt

“Because you are so closed-minded you can’t see anything but what you want to see. Justin is a good person. He didn’t ask to be what he is. We can still find the one who bit him!”

Vincent laughed, a clear cynical sound behind it. “If he can find the one who made him. The number of werewolves grows every day. It’ll be impossible. So, no. He has to die!”

Justin had heard enough. He stepped forward and called, “Vincent.”

Vincent whipped his head around and smiled, harsh and bitter. “So you decided to show. This human means that much to you?”

“Let her go,” Justin snarled, ignoring Vincent’s question. “Then we can fight.”

“I’ll let her go… once you’re dead.”

Justin pulled the sword from his back and moved into the light shining from the fountain. “Let’s do it then.”

“Ah, so the little boy went and got himself a big knife, did he? Do you even know how to use it?” Vincent taunted him.

He did an expert twist of his wrist, sending the blade of the sword spinning around him. Vincent’s eyes narrowed just before he attacked. Their blades clashed against one another as they fought; their movements almost an elegant dance between them. “So you’ve had some training, kid? It’s not enough to save your ass.”

Vincent thrust at him, but Justin cut up with his sword and sent Vincent’s flying into the air. The blade clattered against the ground, landing a few feet from them. Before Justin could strike at him again, Vincent leapt backward, grabbed his sword, and flipped, landing several yards away from Justin. Justin knew it wasn’t going to be an easy fight.

Circling one another, their swords glinted in the moonlight. Justin narrowed his eyes while he waited for Vincent to make the first move. Too impatient to wait for Justin to make his move, Vincent went to strike once more. Justin blocked the blow and attempted a return hit, but Vincent was too fast, crashing his sword into Justin’s. Swords crossed at the blade, Justin thrust upward and managed to nick Vincent’s cheek. Vincent cursed, jumped backward, and touched the small cut. His fingers were dark with a smear of blood when he dropped his hand from his cheek. Justin smiled mockingly at him. “Aw. Did I cut you?”

Vincent curled his lip into a snarl and rushed toward Justin with his sword raised. The fight continued for some time, and eventually they stood facing one another, panting for breath. Justin could see Vincent’s anger reflecting outward from bright violet eyes. He’d never met another person with eyes the shade of amethyst. If he were honest with himself, Vincent would have caught his attention many years ago. The broad shoulders, gorgeous white hair, high cheekbones, and obvious strength rang all of Justin’s bells. Of course, the idea of Vincent ever having an interest in him caused Justin to snort.

The sound set off the next chain of events, flaming Vincent’s rage even higher, or so Justin figured when Vincent struck harder than before. They circled each other. Vincent took the next chance to slice at Justin, but Justin grabbed his wrist and wrenched him forward and over his shoulder, sending Vincent’s sword across the ground to Kara’s feet with a clatter of metal on the cement. Justin immediately pinned Vincent underneath him. Breathing heavily, Justin sat there atop Vincent for several seconds without a word, trying to catch his breath.

“I don’t want to kill you,” Justin rasped.

Vincent looked up at him in skepticism. “Why?” Vincent demanded.

Justin retained eye contact with him. “Because I don’t like hurting someone who hates those monsters just as much as I do.”

Vincent seemed to contemplate Justin’s words, and then something seemed to click inside Vincent. The fight left his body. Justin became aware of Vincent’s hard body against his, their suggestive position, and what it could have meant in another world. Flushing, Justin stood and held his hand out to Vincent, who studied him for several heartbeats before allowing Justin’s help up from the ground. Justin rushed to Kara’s side to untie her hands and massaged them to bring the feeling back into them.

“Don’t think this means I trust you, wolf,” Vincent growled as he retrieved his sword. “If you even so much as look at a human in the wrong way, I won’t hesitate to kill you.”

The sound of his sword bottoming out in its sheath punctuated his promise.

Kara glanced at him and snapped, “How do we know we can trust you?”

“You don’t.” Without another word, he strode off into the darkness.
