Drop in for a
spell…

Blurb

It’s trick or treat for two smitten lovers in this seasonal
holiday romance as Halloween approaches and a little unleashed magic lets the ghoul times
roll.

Forrest’s to-do list:
1. Convince Jonathan to move in with
him.

2. No, seriously. That’s it.

It’s been nine months of playful bickering and bliss
for Forrest Wilde and his boyfriend, Jonathan. But in order to move their relationship
forward, Jonathan needs Forrest to find closure from his past.

Alexander Adler is back in town and dragging all of
Forrest’s ghosts screaming into the light. Is there still a spark waiting to ignite between
Forrest and his ex, or are they nothing more than toasted history? Forrest isn’t exactly eager
to find out, given that sometimes the monsters under the bed are people who haunt us from
days gone by.

Every autumn, the town of Sunset Surf comes alive
in celebration of the season. But this year, when Forrest falls under a mysterious spell that
forces him to forget the person he loves most, there will be plenty of spooks in store for the
fun-loving and eccentric residents of this seaside village. Torn between flight and fright,
Forrest must face his fears in order to make his way back to true love—or risk losing it
forever.

Bone to be Wilde is a contemporary gay rom-
com set in a small beach town on the Southern California coast. The story features an
amnesia plot, hijinks and banter, corn maze capers, ghost stories, and a little black cat. Stop
in for a spell if you’d like a Halloween treat!

* This story follows the events of the first book in
the series, Merry & Sprite, but may be read as a standalone.

Excerpt

The ghost story is read word for word until the bewitched
dildo appears.

“That’s not … you’re messing up the entire book,
Forrest!”

Jonathan is sending him a withering glare from the worn
and well-loved armchair he’s occupying. Forrest blinks lazily back at him, letting his mouth
curve into a slow smile until Jonathan can’t resist and his frown breaks, the corners of his
mouth lifting up too.

“That’s not how we learned it in school,” Jonathan says
primly, but he’s biting at his cheek, trying not to laugh. That right there is one of Forrest’s
favorite things about his boyfriend. Ruffling his feathers and then watching him completely
eat it up.

Which is preciously the reason he’s turning
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow into gothic erotica as he reads aloud to Jonathan, tucked away in
the reading nook at the local book shop. The try-before-you-buy section of the store is
brimming with used paperbacks, each one more dog-eared and dusty than the last,
scattered in senseless piles on shelves and spilling onto the floor.

It’s one of their usual haunts for a late afternoon date, and
on this particular Saturday in mid-October, Forrest is trying to draw out their time together
as much as he can.

“And then,” he continues in a sinister tone, “the women of
Sleepy Hollow tied Ichabod up in the horse stables and gave the naughty schoolmaster his
own education … on strap-ons.”

“You’re insufferable.”

“Ichabod-od-od,” Forrest calls out, in a tone meant to
annoy. “A curious and kinky spell had been cast upon him to bend over for anyone, at any
time. Ichabod became the town—”

“Hush! Don’t talk about spells in front of…” Jonathan’s eyes
go wide as he nods towards a little black cat, curled up soundly in a reading chair nearby.
Lilith, he mouths silently.

There’s this kooky idea Jonathan’s latched onto about Lilith
possessing magical powers. This came after he was struck on the head by a Christmas
ornament and the fairy godfather capers that followed brought the two of them together.
Forrest doesn’t like to think he got a boyfriend due to a braining, but here he is.

He’s not going to deny the possibility that Jonathan may
have been under somebody’s spell when he mysteriously started getting psychic visions that
led him into granting the wishes of local townsfolk. But Forrest is resistant to boarding the
Lilith train without any proof other than Jonathan thinking she winked at him. And
sparkled, like some sort of glitter fairy of cats, which definitely isn’t a thing that exists.

But the matter of wish-granting was not the first peculiar
situation to occur around here, and many of these unexplained events happened long
before Lilith trotted into town and charmed the entire village into taking her in. Though
lately, she’s chosen Forrest’s bed to call her own. To be fair, he can’t blame her. His eight-
hundred-count sheet set is
amazing.

The truth is, there’s always been something in the water at
Sunset Surf, and he’s not just talking about the radical waves.

Sometimes
willpower isn’t enough.

Blurb

Cam

Social anxiety’s been my constant companion for
twenty-three years, sometimes in the background, sometimes silencing me and yanking my

guts out in the nearest trash can. No matter how much I love playing music, I’m never going
to get up on a stage and perform in front of a crowd. But since I met Erik, and was asked to
join his band Hellsbane, that knowledge hurts worse.

No heart (even Erik’s) or dick (even Erik’s) is big
enough to carry me past my limits, but God, I wish there was a way.

Erik

Life’s damned unfair when a guy with the voice of a
hard-rock angel and a songwriting talent like Cam’s can only post anonymous videos online.
But you can’t cure anxiety with wanting, or willpower. My drummer needs to quit trying to
push Cam onstage with us before he breaks.

Rocktoberfest’s still our goal, and touring with
Hellsbane was my only ambition, until I met Cam. Now I can’t have everything I love in one
place, but dammit, I wish there was a way.

A first-times, life challenges, coming out,
rockstar romance.

Hidden Blade is part of the multi-author The Road to Rocktoberfest 2022 series. Each book
can be read as a standalone, but why not read them all and see who hits the stage next? Hot
rockstars and the men who love them, what more could you ask for? Kick back, load up your
kindle and enjoy the men of Rocktoberfest!

Cameron

“You suck.” I glared at Andre as I clutched the puke bucket
between my knees.

“Hey, you did it, dude.” He took his eyes off the road for a
second to grin at me. “You got through a whole set and walked off that stage with your head
held high.”

“And my intestines climbing out my mouth.”

“Ew, gross image.”

“You’re a nurse. You eat gross images for
breakfast.”

Andre threw his head back and laughed. “Okay, you got me.
But seriously, wasn’t that even a little bit cool?”

“The bit where I puked in the john before I went onstage,
or the part where I got as far as the dumpster down the block afterward?”

“Oh, the dumpster. For sure.” He patted my knee. “I won’t
push you anymore. But you were a hit. If you wanted a job or a good fuck, they were lining
up to offer it to you. Maybe both at the same time.”

“Hah. Bullshit.” I’m skinny and beanpole-tall and I haven’t
cut my hair in years because reasons, and I have this nose that I only don’t hate because it’s
just like my dad’s was.

“I mean it.” At the stoplight he fished in his pocket and
pulled out a card. “Lead singer of this group was drooling all over your set and he came
looking for you like a moose hunting its mate when you were done.”

“You make him sound so appealing.” I took the card from
his fingers. “Apparently I could’ve fucked a moose. Wow.”

“Or been fucked by.” The light turned and Andre hit the gas.
“He wasn’t that bad, for an older dude. I know you like them with some years on
’em.”

“Shut up, Bones.”

“Only the truth, Spock.”

I chuckled, despite the acid still churning around in my
stomach. No one on the planet knew me as well as Andre, and in one regrettably truthful
moment years back I’d spilled my attraction to silver foxes and solid older men. He liked to
tease me, but never in a mean way, and he kept bigger secrets of mine than that one. “I’m
not trying to get laid.”

“You should be. Seriously, Cam, you’ve been with what, two
guys in your whole life? A man has needs, or so I tell Lyssa every day.”

“That girl is way too good for you.”

Woman, Cameron. Don’t let the g-word cross your lips. And you’re damn right she’s
too good for me. The key is never letting her figure that out, am I right?”

“Sure. Whatever you say.” Andre was the best. His clowning
was intended to distract me, keeping my anxious brain from fixating on
what-the-shit-did-I-just-do??? Which I shouldn’t have let myself think about, dammit, and I flipped the card
over in my fingers to focus on something else.
Hellsbane. A familiar band logo and on
the next line,
Erik Svenson – lead guitar and
vocals.
With a phone number, an email,
Instagram, Bandcamp, and Twitter.

Hellsbane’s business card! I’d known they’d be there, of course, even if we deliberately arrived
only just in time for my set, so I hadn’t heard them play. And if they’d been in the audience, I
hadn’t recognized a single face in the one panicked look I’d allowed myself. Although…
There’d been a big blond, bearded guy up front who might’ve been their lead singer… Our
eyes had met, and he hadn’t laughed at the fear in mine.

Was that Erik? Watching me? Fuck, maybe I should’ve
played my new song, even if the chorus wasn’t polished yet. Or not skipped that
instrumental bridge, except if I’d stopped singing, I might not’ve started again.
How bad did I screw up in front of Erik
Svenson?…

Some things are better left
alone

Blurb

Some things are better left alone.

Dane Jones works from home with only his three dogs for
company. When he stumbles onto a social media page about urban exploring, he’s curious
about different sites around Sacramento that seem like they’d be interesting to investigate.
He starts chatting with Griff Warren, and after a few conversations he’s even more excited to
go.

Griff Warren is also curious about urban exploring, but he
has very little interest in experiencing something paranormal. When the guy he’s been
chatting with in the online group is so enthusiastic to go, it’s contagious. They plan to go to a
warehouse and while there, experience something they can’t explain.

Dane and Griff were looking for an adventure, but they find
more than they bargained for at a deserted farmhouse on the river. When Dane finds an old
toy discarded in one of the rooms, both of them are thrown into a world neither
understands. Full of cursed objects, strange markings, and powers, neither knows how to
handle. Lucky for them, Griff’s Friend knows exactly who can help.

“Blake said everyone is ready to go as soon as you two want to.
I think he’s surprised you were still interested after what you saw at the cemetery.” Sid didn’t
look up from his phone as he talked.

“Let’s go soon, if I think about it too long, I’ll talk myself out of
it.”

I could see Dane wasn’t completely sold on this idea, but I also
knew how badly he wanted to know the mark he wore would protect him if he needed it to.
And I wanted him safe. I didn’t want him to ever be at the mercy of another being taking
control of him. “Let’s go on Thursday, we can take off early and get there before dark.”

“Good idea, it’s a slow week so we can definitely get out of
here early. Let’s make sure we have everything we need so we can leave as soon as we’re
done. I’d rather not be there after dark.” Sid looked at the two of us before clapping his
hands together. “Okay then, if we’re all done here?”

“Yeah, give me just a minute to walk Dane out.” I took his hand
and led him to the door. “Thanks so much for the coffee, that was sweet of you.” He gave me
an odd look until we walked out the door and I pressed him against the wall. “Sorry, but I
didn’t want you to leave without a kiss.”

“This feels like more than a kiss,” he whispered.

“Oh, it’s more than a kiss. If we were alone, it would
definitely be more than a kiss.”

He laughed and bowed his head before meeting my eyes again.
“Do you think we’re making a mistake going back?”

Sometimes it’s harder
to trust than to love

Blurb

Ethan Scott has everything he could possibly want: an
amazing career, great friends, and more money than he’s ever dreamed of. Oh, and men. So
many men. Yep, life is perfect, and he doesn’t ever see it changing.

Nate Sullivan has sworn off men. They can’t be trusted.
Simple as that. After years of being lied to by the man he thought he loved, the very married
man with a wife and kids, he’s promised to never give his heart away or get emotionally
attached to anyone again.

Ethan thinks it’ll be a sure thing to get Nate into his bed,
but when the sexy and frustrating decorator rebuffs him at every turn, he comes up with a
new plan to tempt the man he can’t stop thinking about. A sex agreement. For the duration
of Nate’s work contract, with no strings attached and definitely no hearts and roses or
emotional fallout.

It sounds like the perfect deal. Nate gets to have the man
he’s been craving since they first met before walking away, his heart intact. Ethan gets to
have Nate in his bed, finally satisfying the itch he’s constantly trying to scratch. Problem is,
Ethan’s still trying to extricate himself from his disastrous marriage and if there’s one thing
Nate won’t touch, it’s a married man. When Nate finds out what Ethan’s been hiding, the
betrayal of trust leaves him devastated.

Nate leaves, but Ethan’s determined not to let him go. Will
Nate give him the chance to explain, or will he risk losing the only man he’s ever truly
loved?

Ethan

Pouring the steaming coffee into my usual mug, I let the
rich aroma fill my senses. God, I needed this. Taking a large gulp, I savored the strong taste
as it hit my tongue, the heat burning my mouth and throat as I swallowed, I hoped like hell
the caffeine would kick start my body after the late night I’d had.

I plopped myself down at the kitchen table to take the
weight off my aching thigh muscles from last night’s activities when the front doorbell rang
loudly in the quiet space.
Who the hell was
that—
I glanced at the clock on the
wall—
at a quarter to nine on a Saturday
morning?

The bell rang again so I pushed my seat back and dragged
my ass up the stairs and down the first-floor hallway. Yanking the front door open to get rid
of whoever had ruined my peaceful morning, I was about to give them an earful, but then I
looked into his face and the words died on my lips.

The man standing on my doorstep must have been mid-
twenties at the most. A few inches shorter than my own six two, he wore a blue baggy t-shirt
a good couple of sizes too big, almost drowning his slim frame, and a pair of loose-fitting
gray jeans and black sneakers. His angular face gave him a Scandinavian look, with a strong
jaw and high cheekbones. Sandy blond hair shone golden in the morning sun, short on the
sides and long on top, swept away from his forehead and held in place with some product.
My fingers itched to slide through the strands to see if they were as soft as they looked and a
sudden image of my hand gripping tightly in his hair as I tilted his head to lick up his neck
flashed through my mind.

Despite the tempting package he presented, I couldn’t
seem to tear my eyes away from his lips. Pink and full, they were begging to be kissed, and I
had to bite down hard on my tongue to refrain from licking my own in readiness.

Well, hello, Blondie.

“Mister Scott?” his smooth, quiet voice asked, giving me
goosebumps and pulling me from the trance I’d fallen into. Lifting my gaze to the palest
green eyes I’d ever seen, I nodded at his question, my mouth suddenly unable to voice a
coherent response. He shifted on his feet, “I’m, err, here about the painting quote.”

Damn, was that today?

He extended his hand out in front of him, and, giving myself
a mental shake to wake the hell up, I reached for his and clasped his palm, my own larger
hand encasing his. A shock of electricity shot up my arm catching me by surprise. The guy
obviously felt the effect too as his eyes widened and he took in a short, sharp
breath.

Interesting.

“Please, call me Ethan.” I held onto his warm hand a little
longer than necessary before reluctantly releasing it and giving him a friendly smile.

The guy stiffened slightly and inclined his head. “I’m
Nate.”

“Nate.” I savored his name on my tongue, rolling it around.
“Please, come on inside.”

I stepped aside to let him enter, unable to resist the urge to
lean in slightly and inhale his scent as he passed by me. Light and citrusy with a hint of soap.
As he moved into the hallway, I gave him the once over and was disappointed to see his t-
shirt covered his ass, obscuring my view.

Jesus. I had
to stop perving on the guy. I deliberately pushed my hands into my sweatpants pockets to
try to hide my growing erection and to subtly press my fingers against the head of my cock
to give me some degree of control and hopefully, relief.

It didn’t.

Nate had stopped a few feet into the hallway, glancing
around, assessing his surroundings, but he didn’t say anything and waited silently for me to
take the lead.

“Come on,” I offered. “I’ll give you the tour, and we can talk
about what I want.”

“Well, isn’t queer

― Joss Lake,
Future Feeling

Blurb

Carl Young’s biggest secret: he’s always felt like Cara Young.
Through the years, he acknowledged his authentic female self in ways he kept hidden in the
shadows. The makeup, the dresses, the shoes — all of them represented his most longed-for
desires and his deepest shame.

When Carl’s husband Roberto comes home early
from work to discover Cara in her wig, makeup, dress, and high heels, he’s shocked. Who is
this person he married decades ago? He flees, leaving their home in Chicago for the
obliviousness of the sunny skies of Southern California.

Cara begins making tentative steps into a world she
imagined would always remain secret. She ventures out, dressing the only way she feels
whole. Publicly claiming her identity, she’s terrified, but also filled with joy when she
discovers there are others like her, people who will welcome her with open arms and
support.

But for both Roberto and Cara, their long-term and
love-filled marriage is now a challenge with which they both must reckon. Does her
transition mean following separate paths? Or forging a new one … together?

Excerpt

He tried to hold his discomfort and shivering in abeyance as
he climbed the boulders at the north end of the beach and sat down on the cold and wet
rock. He wished he’d worn a warmer coat because he longed to stay here a while, in the
quiet, the only sound the rhythmic pull and push of the waves against the shore. There was
something mesmerizing about watching the flakes drift down, disappearing into the pewter-
colored water. Visibility was nil, but he could see the sun above as a white orb, a glow amidst
the overcast skies.

“You know, it’s all right.”

The voice came to him more through his head than
his ears. He turned.

Sitting next to him was his mother. Carl wasn’t
surprised.

She was as she appeared when he was a little boy —
a beautiful woman whose Sicilian heritage endowed her with the most penetrating green
eyes and the creamiest olive complexion. “And the biggest nose,” she’d probably add,
laughing. Staring out at the waves, her face was unlined, her hair glossy, dark, curling around
her face. She wore a mouton coat he’d remembered from his childhood. Once upon a time,
he’d slip into her closet and don the coat; it was unbelievably soft and warm. Its satin lining
was a wonderful contrast to the plushness of the fur. He could smell his mother’s perfume
and the faintest hint of cigarette smoke on the coat.

It was almost like being given a hug from
her.

“What’s all right?” he asked, almost as if talking to
his younger — and dead — mother on a beach in the middle of a blizzard was the most
normal thing in the world. “The fact that you lost your battle with cancer?” The tears welling
in his eyes worried him because he feared they’d freeze. “Because, Mom, I can tell you, that
is not all right.” He wiped wet snow from his cheeks. “What will I do without you? Who will I
call on Sundays? Who will care about what happens to me? Who will listen now? How will I
feel the hole left in your absence?”

He had a lot of questions.

She waved his concerns away. Her nails were long,
blood red, just as they’d been when she was young. She stopped caring as she got older and
kept them clipped short, no polish. “Don’t be so dramatic. You always were. I was old, honey.
And the cancer they said they got all of?” She chuckled. “They were wrong.” She shrugged.
“It happens. The big C stands for cancer, right?”

He nodded.

“Well, it also stands for cunning, because it is. It
comes down to a fight for survival. I take comfort in the fact that even though the big C won
the battle, I won the war.” She smiled, looking Carl in the eye. “No more host. That cancer
just lost his job.”

They sat silently for a long time. Carl wondered if
he’d died and now they were in some sort of afterlife. It was quiet enough. The still made it
seem as though they were the only two people on the planet.

“Well, what did you mean then? What’s all
right?”

She turned and reached out her hands, not quite
reaching his cheeks. He wondered if she was capable of touch or if her hands would reach
him as a cold gust. “You. You’re all right. Just as you are. I’m sorry it took me so long to
realize it. I wish I had told you this when you were little and I caught you wearing my clothes
or makeup.” She shrugged. “Hindsight. But Carl, you’re okay and you will be okay. Don’t let
anyone stop you.”

“From what?”

“From being exactly who you are.”

Carl closed his eyes and that caused the tears to fall
at last. They made him colder, but they made him human.

When he opened his eyes again, he was alone on
the beach.

destroyed thanks to his reckless actions as a teenager destroying his knee.

Two: that he will never fall in love because the very
idea of it sends his skin crawling.

Three: he will bed as many NHL players as humanly
possible before he retires his game.

And four: he will never apologize for who he is and
what he wants.

Then two men come barreling into his life and turn
everything he knows upside down.

He still won’t play for the NHL, and he still won’t
change who he is because he’s fought too long and too hard to accept his identity. But
suddenly his future is starting to look a little different than he originally
planned.

And that scares the absolute hell out of
him.

When he met Marko Rudenko and Luka
Wagner—two veterans of the Denver Huskies—they were supposed to be a game, just like
everyone else. But now all he can think about is how to keep them around without
compromising the person he’s become and ruining the love Marko and Luka have for each
other.

“Is there going to be a fight?” Nolan asked.

The guy scoffed, glancing at him. “Worse. Hockey
players.”

Nolan’s heart rammed against his chest. Not that it could
possibly be Marko or Luka, but he hadn’t seen or spoken to either of them since the
awkward incident at the rink. He hadn’t even been letting himself think about it.

He swallowed thickly. “They come in here a lot?”

“Every once in a while,” the guy said, then lowered his
voice. “Mostly because it’s the furthest thing from a sports bar so no one’s going to notice if
they take someone home.”

Nolan heard that for the warning it was: keep your mouth
shut. The guy might not love having professional athletes in his bar, but he also knew it was
good for business.

He forced himself not to look, bowing over his drink. “Tell
me when it’s safe to escape, and close out my tab.”

“Actually, put his drink on ours.”

Nolan’s entire body froze.

Fuck. Fucking shit fuck shit.

He would have recognized Luka’s voice even if he was
concussed and under water. His throat went tight, but he tried to offer something like a
smile, though given how wide Luka’s eyes were behind his glasses, he realized he was
probably grimacing.

His heart sank even lower when another body slid up
against Luka’s and stared him down. “You don’t answer call or text. We think maybe you
died.”

Yeah, okay. He did kind of deserve that. He’d just left Marko
hanging like an asshole, and the guy didn’t deserve it. But he also didn’t deserve Nolan’s
mess when it was obvious Marko and Luka were both capable of a love that straight up
repulsed Nolan down to his core.

“You know these guys?” the bartender asked. He crossed
his arms over his chest in a protective way, and Nolan felt a pulse of affection for the total
stranger.

“No. We don’t know him. He’s total weirdo who stalk us,”
Marko said.

Luka elbowed him hard. “Stop being an asshole. Yes, we
know him.”

Nolan sighed and gave a nod. “Old friends. In fact, put
their drinks on my tab. Get them each one of these,” he said, tapping his
glass.

Both Marko and Luka started to protest, but the bartender
ignored them both with a shrug and walked off to fill the order.

“Why you being child?” Marko demanded.

“Pretty sure a child couldn’t afford a twenty-six-dollar glass
of bourbon for his two friends,” Nolan fired back.

Luka’s brows shot up, and he shoved his glasses higher up
on the bridge of his nose. “Why the fuck are you drinking that?”

“Because it tastes amazing,” he said. And because I can afford it now thanks to a slew of online
strangers who pay me to shove dildos up my ass
. But he wasn’t going to say that part aloud as tempting as it was. “You don’t want
it?”

As if summoned, the bartender arrived with three new
glasses, and Nolan took his, watching the other two out of his periphery. Marko showed no
hesitation when snatching up his, but Luka was a little more hesitant.

“It’s not poisoned,” Nolan grumbled.

Marko sighed, then hip-checked Luka out of his way and sat
on the wooden stool. It groaned under his impossibly thick layers of muscle, and Nolan tried
not to stare at the way his arms flexed as he laid one on the bar top and used the other to
lift his glass to his mouth.

“Okay, we talk about weird moment, or we just get drunk
and pretend it never happen?”

Nolan didn’t think the fucker was just going to come out
with it like that. Guilt slammed into him as he looked over at Luka and wondered if this was
some sort of confrontation because Nolan had flirted with them both and gotten a little too
close to Marko recently. He swallowed down another delightfully spiced mouthful of
liquor.

“Should I get drunk for this conversation?”

“Looks like you’re already halfway there,” Luka pointed out.
He wedged himself between Marko and Nolan, leaning his elbow on Marko’s shoulder in a
gesture that telegraphed they were together.

As they should be, Nolan thought bitterly, but he wasn’t
feeling particularly generous considering how badly he wanted them both. “Yeah, well. I
came here to drink my feelings.”

“Mm. You should try feelings burritos,” Marko said. “Is
much better. No hangover.”

“Nah, just burrito farts,” Luka said, then laughed when
Marko rolled his eyes. “Please, you know it’s true. There’s a reason we don’t sleep together
when you and Ravi have burrito night.”

Nolan felt his ears go red, and he had to look away. He
didn’t know what the fuck was wrong with him because, for an aromantic asshole, he loved
watching the people he cared about living their best lives. So why did it force bile up his
throat to think about losing these two to each other?

They wanted things that made his skin crawl.

He jolted slightly when warm fingers touched his wrist, and
he took a breath before he returned his attention to the two men. “I’m still firmly team
bourbon.”

“Are you still team Luka and Marko?” Luka asked so quietly
Nolan mostly had to read his lips over the music.

He swallowed heavily. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Because you stop talking to me,” Marko said, his booming
voice rising over the music. “We have moment, then you just leave. And then”—he sucked in
air through his teeth—“nothing.”

Blurb

I’ve never been romantic. Just ask my ex-wife.

Since she broke up with me, I get my needs met any time I
want, without putting my heart on the line. Exactly how I like it.

But when she is called overseas and leaves me with our
child, my bachelor lifestyle ends faster than you can say, “Daddy, I want a pony.”

I need help.

Problem is, help’s come in the form of an incredibly hot
nanny.

My employee.

Who is much younger than me.

And also … a guy.

I watch Scott care for my kid and can’t help feeling like he
clicks into place in her life.

When he looks at me, though … I get an entirely different
feeling. One that makes me long for things I can’t have.

Like him.

Unmanageable is a contemporary m/m age gap romance
about a starry-eyed nanny who wants hot-air balloon rides and singing telegrams and a
grumpy single dad who most definitely does not.

I wish I had Murph’s confidence. Before that dustup with
Edsel, I was positive he was the one, but now my optimism has left me, never to
return.

“What do I do while I’m waiting for ‘the one’? And how do I
solve my money issues?” My voice cracks. “I might lose my place.”

“How can I help?” He bites his lip. “Do you need to borrow
some money?”

“No.” My tone comes out much more forcefully than I
intend. But
hell no. “I’m not getting into more debt, especially not to a friend. I just need to put
my job search into hyperdrive. I have to get myself a job that pays more than the greeting
card gig.”

“Now, that’s a solvable problem.” Murph’s eyes
light up, and he claps. “What do you want to do for work? What skills do you have?”

“None.”

He glares at me. “You have to be good at
something.”

“Well, I’m very good at arranging romantic dates, but that’s
not exactly a salaried position.”

He tilts his head to the side. “You could be a wedding
planner!”

I scratch the back of my neck. “Actually, that’s not a bad
idea.” My shoulders slump. “But I don’t know how to break into that business. And I need
money fast.”

“Who needs money fast? You’re still job hunting?” A body
hovers over us, and I look up to see my friend Jeremy Everett. After he and I got a tiny bit
sauced one night here at V and V, he adopted me as a member of his booklover gang. Like
Murph, Jeremy’s a force of nature, only he’s a bit more reformed fuckboi and a bit less
princess. He runs a hand through his halo of dirty-blond hair. “You could sell plasma. Or
sperm.”

“Hey,” I say, scooting over in the seat to let him in. “And,
um, no.”

“I’m not gonna judge,” Jeremy says, holding up his hands.
“You gotta do what you gotta do.”

“Even if I were desperate enough to bring the product of
my ham candle to market, I’m pretty sure I don’t want to pass on my genetic material. The
recipient might end up in as dire straits as me.”

Product of
your ham candle
?” Murph and Jeremy say at
the same time.

Shrugging, I hide my smile.

They burst out laughing, and then Murph clucks his tongue.
“I’ve had about enough of ‘Bag on Scottybear’ time. No more, okay? We’re problem
solving.”

“Fine.” I grimace. “Just no, uh, dissemination of my, um,
semen. For profit. I mean, I don’t have a problem with it, but it’s not for me.”

They crack up again, and now we’re getting looks from
around the bar. Vino and Veritas is all chatter and good vibes, but there is a point where you
can be a little too loud. We might be getting there.

“Do you have to get back to work?” I ask Murph.

He checks his phone. “I have a couple minutes left of my
break. And this is more entertaining than that time Jason and Tai lost bets to me and
Emmett and had to stand on the street corner across from city hall in Speedos holding signs
that said, ‘Love me, love my Nantucket Nad Bucket.’”

Jeremy raises his eyebrows. “I missed that one.”

“You did,” Murph and I say together.

Good vs. evil, angels vs.
demons, and rednecks running wild across the Middle East. What could go
wrong?

Blurb

What happens when a hunky demon visits you and
commands you to break all ten commandments? Or when a handsome angel orders you to
do the opposite? And what if you’re Bobby Ray, and you’ve already broken nine of the ten,
and thou shalt not kill is a close brick away, and the demon has tacked on a cushy afterlife in
hell as a reward? Decisions, decisions. And poor Bobby Ray has never been good at one

decision, let alone multiple ones. Broke, divorced, and pretty darn miserable, does he do
what’s right or what’s easy?

In this darkly comical romantic adventure, Bobby Ray, with
the help of numerous friends and just as many enemies, one being his ex-husband, travels
from Georgia to Israel and ultimately across Egypt and the Gaza Strip in search of the one
clue that will hopefully save them all, and possibly the entire world. Will good win out over
evil, love over hate? Or will Bobby Ray ultimately break the universe?

Good vs. evil, angels vs. demons, and rednecks running wild
across the Middle East. What could go wrong?

Excerpt

As I stood over the sleeping man, brick in hand, heart
beating a rhythmic drum solo in my chest, a brilliant flash of white light punched me straight
in the face. “What the f –”

“Bobby Ray!” boomed the voice, seemingly from all
directions. “Though shalt not kill!”

“Well, not yet, anyway,” I replied. “Wait just another
minute.” I tried swatting the blinding light away, but, well, it was light, so swatting didn’t
seem to do the trick. “That thing got a switch?” I didn’t know who I was talking to. I guessed
this was all my subconscious, some sort of guilt trip I was laying on myself for killing my
neighbor Tom. Or trying to. But with my eyes watering something awful, I was having a bit of
a hard time of it. Maybe I shouldn’t have had the bourbon beforehand. Or finished the
bottle. And smoked a joint to calm my nerves. But see, I liked Tom. Right on up until I found
out that he was sleeping with my husband, I liked him. Or, okay, to be fair, my ex-husband,
but still.

“Bobby Ray!” again boomed the voice, the floor beneath
me suddenly rolling like a wave. “Though shalt not kill!”

Funnily enough, the voice didn’t sound like mine. I’d have
thought my subconscious would’ve sounded something like me, but nope, not even close.
Also, Tom wasn’t moving. And the voice was fucking loud, and the waving floor was still
waving, and the bed was waving right along with it, but Tom was still lying there snoring.
Ambien, I figured. Had to be. In any case, I set the brick down next to him and wiped my
eyes with my sleeve. Soon as I did that, the lights went out in Georgia — Georgia being where
we were at the time and not simply the lyrics to a catchy old song.

“What the f –” I repeated as my eyes focused on the
apparent source of the booming voice. “Shouldn’t have mixed the bourbon and the pot.” I
wiped at my peepers again. And again. Only, the angel floating in front of me with his
massive wings spread out and a sort of pale glow all around him wasn’t blinking away as I
had hoped. “I bet that pot was laced with something. Shouldn’t have bought it off that
stranger at the bar. That was my first mistake.”

The angel grinned. As grins went, this was one was quite,
well, angelic. Duh, I suppose. “It doesn’t even break the top one hundred mistakes you’ve
made, Bobby Ray.”

I shrugged. “Yeah, it hasn’t been a good year for me.”
Understatement. Of the gross variety.

The angel folded his wings and stepped a foot closer to me
as just his toes touched the ground. He was tall, almost seven feet, if I had to take a guess.
Handsome as all get out, too. Smooth as alabaster and naked as the day he was born.
Though I was guessing he hadn’t ever really been born, what with him being an angel and
all. Either that or I was hallucinating. Or I was dreaming. I was betting on one of those last
two.

“It hasn’t been a good life, either, Bobby Ray.”

And still, I shrugged. Or maybe I hadn’t stopped from the
previous time. “I blame my parents for that.”

The angel shook his head. “Honor thy father and thy
mother, Bobby Ray.”

I snickered. “Have you met the Beauregards? Flies keep
their distance. Too shitty, even for them.” I glanced at the brick. I figured I could take this guy
if need be. He didn’t look like the fighting type. Flying, sure, but not fighting.

“The Lord said to honor thy father and thy mother, Bobby
Ray, and so honor you must.”

I sighed. Tom was still fast asleep. Probably dreaming of
Matty, my ex.

“Seems kind of a waste of time to honor the likes of them,”
I told the angel. “They wouldn’t even appreciate it. Don’t much like that I’m gay, but
honoring sounds sorts of pansy-ass. Their words, not mine.” And those were nice words in
comparison to their usual words.

The angel moved a step closer, a step closer still, tippy toes
dragging the floor. He was now standing directly in front of me — or maybe it was closer to
hovering, really — leaning down, in. I stared into eyes blue as the heavens. Go figure. It was,
in fact, a bit like looking into eternity itself. “Your parents sound delightful, but be that as it
may –”

I held up my hand. “I get it, I get it. Honor. Don’t kill. Blah,
blah, blah.” I squinted up at him. “You visit everyone who’s about to break a commandment?
Because I’d have thought we would’ve met a hell of a lot sooner than now.”

The angel straightened his back and moved an inch in
reserve. Up until that moment, he looked, I don’t know, sort of at peace. All angelic looking.
Like he didn’t have a care in the world. But just for a second, I could’ve sworn I saw a flinch
of pain. Maybe it was my choice of words. Or word. Hell, I mean.

“I –” he said, but suddenly got cut off.

No, there wasn’t a bright light again. I was glad for that. My
eyes were still watering from the first one. This time, there was a puff of foul-smelling
smoke, very fire and brimstone stinking. I mean, I guess. Not like I’d smelled brimstone
before. Not that I even knew what brimstone was. In any case, I coughed, rubbed at my nose
as the black cloud disappeared to reveal what I assumed was a demon. I mean, the guy was
red all over and had horns protruding a good foot from his temples, so demon was probably
a good guess, as guesses went. Plus, I already had an angel, so a demon seemed logical. As
much as anything did right about then, I mean.
