wedding, and passion-filled nights—can Jake and Con find the balance between taking risks
and keeping safe? And turn attraction into happily ever after?

But none of that matters if they fail to get the target off
Con’s back…

Series: End of
the Line
, Book 1 in the award-winning Jake’s
Bar series, is a steamy, M/M romantic suspense featuring a rainbow-colored bar full of
quirky characters, and all the romance you can handle. It’s a place where you can always find
support (and a cold beer) when life spins out of control. So, download today, and get ready
to fall in love with Jake’s Bar.

Excerpt

A gay bar. Thank you, Jesus. A fucking gay bar. Loud and
proud. Con’s kind of place, but none of Murphy’s men would be caught dead in here. Con’s
body hurt all over, but they hadn’t found him. He’d given his pursuers the slip and was out of
the rain.

About an hour ago—close to two in the morning—Jake had
flipped the lights on and kicked everybody out. People barely dared to finish their drinks
when the big, bulky man with his booming voice told them to
go the fuck home. Con would be
surprised if any of them would come back. Damn, Jake was something else. Con had a thing
for guys who took charge and thinking of it sent sparks down his spine.

Jake had offered Con to call it a night as soon as the last
guest had left the place. Clearly, he hadn’t missed that Con was moving slower and slower as
the night progressed. And fuck, his ribs hurt something fierce. Still, he had declined Jake’s
offer to leave right away. The bar owner had raised an eyebrow, but much to his relief, Jake
had started to put the chairs up himself while Con got a broom. And every time he tried to
do anything but sweep, Jake had thundered at him to stay out of the way.

“Are you trying to dig a hole with that broom? I think that
corner is clean enough,” Jake said quietly from across the room, his tall frame propped
against the bar—arms crossed—watching. Jake’s calm focus sent chills over Con’s body as he
forced himself to relax with a few more long inhales and exhales. His overtired brain fired
some images of being at the receiving end of Jake’s laser sharp attention under different
circumstance—with a whole lot less distance between them, and fewer clothes. Jake was
hot in an angry, pissed-off way. Square. Solid. A force to be reckoned with.

Loud tapping of Jake’s fingers onto the bar brought Con
back from his wayward thoughts. For a moment, the impatient rhythm was the only sound,
then Jake let out a huff of air and said, “Listen, I’m not sure how to ask this, but—do you
have anywhere to go tonight?”

“Yes, of course, I—” Con’s answer had been a reflex, but he
actually had no idea how to end this sentence.

“You can stay here if you have nowhere safe to go.”

Nowhere safe. How did he know? Con’s heart skipped a beat and then started to race again in his
chest. His eyes shot over to the front door.
How
the fuck did he know?

“Hey, calm down.” Jake pushed himself up from the counter
and walked a few steps closer but then stopped again. “You have no defensive wounds. And,
well, you’re a big dude, so I wonder what happened to you tonight.”

Three against one. I never had a chance.

“It’s fine. You’re safe. Is it okay if I touch you?” Jake was
suddenly by his side, his voice soft. Gently, a hand came down on his shoulder. “It’s okay.
Why don’t you just stay on my couch tonight?”

The warmth of Jake’s hand seeped through his skin. Con
gritted his jaw to steel himself against the sudden need to lean in. Any other time, he’d have
given Jake crap for treating him like a wounded animal, but his beat-up body was starting to
give in on him. “That would be great,” he managed through clenched teeth.

Deception is new to Greyson
and Morgen, but they’ll soon learn it has surrounded them all along.

Blurb

Greyson Variusdraconis is a newly shifted dragon searching
for purpose. Growing up in the Consilium Veneficus, his tutors taught him not to trust Fate.
Raised by his elder brother who serves their king directly, Greyson still lives under his
sibling’s roof. King Varius recently signed a treaty, so Greyson’s job is guarding wizards.
Greyson finds it boring, and he worries his brother will never accept his desire to avoid a

political arranged marriage.

As a child, Morgen Bassett struggled to find his footing. Two
centuries later, the wizard works in a tiny library, lacks family, and has a rented room barely
large enough for its furniture. Although Morgen’s early education included mentions of
matebonds, the split between the Council of Sorcery and Shifters and the Consilium changed
everything. With no promise of his other half or anything else, Morgen is doing little more
than surviving.

On an otherwise normal trip to the supermarket, Greyson
and Morgen meet, and neither man is prepared for the force of their connection. Not long
after the sparks fly between them, Greyson accepts a mission to infiltrate the Draconis High
Court of D’Vaire. The pair will have to find a way to stay together. Should they be successful
in gaining entry, they’ll also need to learn how to unearth all the D’Vaire secrets. However,
Greyson and Morgen will soon find that nothing about their lives is what it seems.

Excerpt

When Morgen lifted to his toes and tilted his chin up for a kiss,
Greyson’s mouth landed on the wizard’s, and he tugged him into his arms for a hug.
Everything in Greyson settled for a minute, then his worry over the conversation they
needed to have filled his senses again.

“Sorry I’m late.”

“Was there traffic?” Morgen asked, stepping away from
Greyson and leading him to his room.

“No, my brother wanted to talk to me.”

“Is everything okay?”

“I hope so,” Greyson said. “Sit on the bed with me.”

Once Morgen was settled on the bed next to Greyson, he
gently pushed some of his bangs out of the wizard’s unique eyes. There was concern in
them, and Greyson wanted to alleviate it, so he got straight to the point.

“I’m being sent on assignment in a few weeks. King Varius and
my brother are going to help me get into the sanctuary at D’Vaire. We need to figure out
how to recruit dragons. Either we discover D’Vaire is not what it seems, or I study the
Council to find the weak points so we can advertise that the Council is inferior to the
Consilium. They want me to stay until I gain everyone’s trust, so they expect I’ll be gone for
many months or longer.”

Morgen’s gaze hit his lap, and he exhaled heavily. Instead of
putting his hand into Greyson’s as he usually did, Morgen clasped them together and put
them between his legs.

“You’re leaving?”

“In a couple of weeks, yes,” Greyson said. “It has me thinking
about us. We don’t know everything about each other after a week, but we’re both
determined to learn more. We’re united in following what our souls and Fate are telling us.
I’d hoped someday to ask you to move to Court Varius. Today at lunch, I was looking around
online and found that there’s a library within biking distance from my brother’s house. I
thought it could possibly be a good place for you to work if you wanted.”

“I biked to work prior to finding this room.”

The words were soft, and Morgen still wouldn’t look at
him.

“Come to D’Vaire with me. We could work on our relationship
while I handle my assignment. We’ll potentially be there for a long time. I bet we’ll be ready
to seal our bond before we learn the things King Varius wants to know. When we return to
Court Varius, we could be bonded mates. My brother wouldn’t be able to say shite about
political marriages or anything else. We’d be together, and he’d have to accept it.”

Morgen’s head lifted, and he stared at Greyson for several
seconds, then he bit his bottom lip. “You want me to go with you?”

“Didn’t I just ask you to? Of course I do. Think about it. Our
only job would be research. That’s something we both love, and we’d be together the whole
time. We’d get to learn everything about each other, and these feelings we’re building would
grow.”

“How could I go?”

“We’ll figure it out. I promise. There’s no question that I’ll leave
here without you. I can’t say no to my king, but I think I can be pretty convincing. You do
seem to like me.”

With a small smile, Morgen reached over and slipped his hand
into Greyson’s. “There’s nothing keeping me bound to my job or this room. I don’t like the
idea of springing us on your brother when we get back, though.”

“We’ll tell him before we make the trip home. No worries.
We’ll figure out the best way to tackle the entire situation as a team. What do you say? Do
you want to handle this secret mission with me?”

“As long as you promise I get to take a trip to the Spectra
Library.”

“I’m not leaving the Council without seeing it either,” Greyson
assured him. “What do you say we get some takeaway and start our research?”

“A kiss could sway me.”

Greyson grinned. His fingers danced over Morgen’s jaw, his
lovely lips, then Greyson settled his mouth on the wizard’s. Morgen touched his tongue to
Greyson’s, and all thoughts of subterfuge, D’Vaire, and giant libraries flowed out of his
brain.

An ex-Army prince must
protect the man he loves from his treasonous family

Blurb

Life couldn’t get any more twisted and convoluted if it tried.
Christian hates his parents as much as they hate him, but he never expected them to throw
him in a cell when he blurted out he was bisexual. Their public image is important to them
because it hides the transgressions they’ve subjected many people to over the years. People
Christian mourn every day because he couldn’t save them. Reading is an escape, and one
place gives him the solitude he needs to shore his defences – and the view isn’t too bad
either.

Oscar is living his dream. The owner of a beautiful cafe
slash bookshop slash library, he is never happier than when he is working, which is all the
time. When Prince Christian becomes a regular, Oscar tries to stop his attraction to him, but
the man is like a god. A haunted god, but nonetheless. His scrutiny of the man means he
notices when Christian nears breaking point, but he has no idea what to do about it.
Christian offers to find him a Daddy, but Oscar hesitates. Does Christian really want to help
or is he feeling sorry for him?

When their attraction persuades Christian to take the role
of Oscar’s Daddy for himself, can he keep Oscar safe when he goes up against the people
who wish to harm those they love?

This is an MM book containing BDSM scenes and D/s
dynamics in all forms. It also has lots of loving, friendships, family drama and, of course, a
HEA.

Excerpt

“Would you like some company?” he asked.

Christian smiled. “Sure. Have a seat.”

“I don’t have to if you want some peace. I didn’t realise Hilary
had…”

“Sit down, little one,” Christian murmured.

Oscar slid into the seat opposite him, pulling his cup and cake
towards him. He was quiet for a moment before he peered at Christian again. “Does it
hurt?”

Christian chuckled. “A little. Eating is tiresome because it makes
my jaw ache, but I can manage.”

“Are your ribs the same?” Raising his eyebrows, Christian tilted
his head. “I saw you wince a couple of times.”

“Yes. My ribs are decorated like a rainbow at present.”

Oscar gasped. “Should you be resting?”

“If I didn’t get out of there, I would’ve gone mad. I’ve been
‘resting’ for days already.” He focused on his coffee, taking a sip.

Oscar bit his lip to stop from asking what happened. Instead,
he used his fork to cut a piece of his cake and slide it into his mouth. The chocolate cake was
delicious, and the reason he always had his supplier make an extra cake so he could take one
home. He counted it as part of his wages. It didn’t help that he had a sweet tooth,
something his Daddy would need to help him with when he had one who stayed longer than
a night.

“What are you thinking about?” Christian asked.

Oscar opened the eyes he hadn’t realised he’d closed and
studied him. Then he stared at his cake, pushing crumbs from one side to the other. He
huffed a laugh. “I was thinking that I needed my Da…” He glanced over his shoulder. “I
needed my Daddy to make sure I didn’t eat too many sweet things. I have something of a
problem.”

Christian laughed. “Working in a cafe is probably not the best
idea.”

“Don’t I know it. I’m sure my trousers are getting tighter by the
day.”

“You look fine to me. I bet being on your feet all day balances
the sweet addiction. I bet it’s not as bad as Henry and George, anyway.”

“Why?”

Christian put his mug down and curled his hands around it.
“Henry loves fudge. Any flavour, any shape. Just fudge. If he had his way, he’d eat it every
day. As for George, his addiction to love heart sweets easily pays a factory worker’s annual
salary.”

Oscar chuckled. “I don’t feel so alone now.”

“You’d fit right in, don’t you worry.”

Oscar’s heart jumped with Christian’s words, though he knew
the prince didn’t mean anything by them. There was no way he would fit in with royalty.

“I will be speaking tomorrow to a couple of people who might
be interested in your…situation,” Christian said. “I will hopefully have more news for you
tomorrow.”

Oscar swallowed hard, ignoring the pang in his stomach when
he thought about someone else being with him. He couldn’t have a prince. “Thank you.” He
drank his coffee, shoving down the feelings his traitorous body was bringing to the
surface.

“What’s wrong?”

Oscar glanced up. “What?”

“You seem sad. Has something happened?”

“No, nothing. I’m okay.”

Christian narrowed his eyes on him, and Oscar fidgeted in his
seat, wanting to make himself smaller. Not because Christian was intimidating, but because
Oscar’s brain was already associating Christian with being a Daddy and someone he didn’t
want to upset. He wanted to be good for him, even though they didn’t have that type of
relationship.

“Oscar?”

He lifted his gaze to where his name had been called, and
Hilary waved for him. He stood. “I have to get back to work. I’m glad you’re okay.” Oscar
stepped away but turned back when Christian said his name softly.

“I’ll find someone. I promise.”

About the Author

I am Elouise East but feel free
to call me Elli. I write sweet and steamy connections in gay romance. I also touch on taboo
stories under the name Elouise R East.

Books that tell the stories
where friendship and family are the focal point – be it blood family or chosen – is very
important to me. That’s why I include a variety of personalities, talents, ages, situations and
abilities as I believe a story or a character needs. I want my characters to be real, to be
relatable, to be free to have whatever views they tell me they have. And trust me, most of
the time, I do not have
any say in the matter!

My characters come to life on
the page for me as well as my readers. Their stories unfold in front of me, and I have very
little input into how they want to be shown. Just like real life, the lives of my characters
change with every choice, every interaction and every conversation. And I wouldn’t have it
any other way.

I write books that are
emotionally realistic, even if liberties are taken with other aspects of my stories. I don’t
know any other way to write. It comes from deep inside.

Who am I? A single parent to
two children who make life worth living. An avid reader who still devours every book she can
get her hands on. A student of learning about any subject that takes her fancy. An author of
books she would read herself. And a romantic at heart who loves anything cheesy.

The men of the Finding
Forever series will set your heart on fire (and possibly your Kindle too)

Blurb

Whether it’s overcoming a twelve-year separation and
trauma, figuring out a complex and confusing identity, or learning to see beyond the surface
to the heart of gold inside,
these three novels and two novellas by Marie Sinclair show how love survives and flourishes even in
the darkest of times.

For Ry and Cart (A Winter’s
Dance
and A Kind of Forever), saying I love you for the first time didn’t work out the way fairy tales told
them it would. Together in college, they are accidentally outed by a photograph taken at an
LGBTQ protest, and separated by Ry’s conservative family. Twelve years later, they’re
reunited, but Cart quickly realizes that Ry is no longer the carefree, sensual lover he knew
when they were younger. Something haunts and torments Ry, making him run from Cart
who has to decide if he’s willing to risk his damaged heart for another chance at
love.

When Jake and Micah met (Nothing
Like a Summer Romance
), there was an
instant connection. The month they spent together during summer break was full of first
times for Micah. First kiss. First love. First time doing drag. He’s pretty sure he wants Jake to
be his first for everything, but Jake’s not so sure he can do a relationship.
Nothing Like Forever charts the ins and outs and ups and downs of the twenty years it takes them to figure
out that Jake is aromantic and that happily ever after doesn’t have to look a certain way.

After an apartment fire leaves Diego homeless, Jake gives
him a place to stay. The only problem, Alex is already living there. In
Forever
After
, Alex and Diego navigate a bumpy road built
from bad first impressions, misunderstandings, and close proximity. When Alex’s 13-year old
comes out as trans and moves across the country to live with him, Alex sees a different side
to queer youth counselor Diego, and the two discover an attraction that burns hotter the
more they get to know each other.

Excerpt

It was four in the morning, and for the first time since Diego
had woken up, the enormity of what had happened washed over him. His home was gone.
Everything he owned except for the clothes on his back and what he had in his go-bag was
likely damaged by smoke and water, even if the fire hadn’t reached his apartment, so all that
was gone as well. He was a small dot in the vastness of San Francisco, and the panic he’d
pushed aside in favor of helping others began to surface.

Where to find an apartment he could afford was a question for
later; Diego’s immediate issue was a place to stay right now. His first thought, of course, was
his family. He was the youngest of five siblings, as well as the only boy, and had countless
uncles and aunts and cousins living in the Bay Area. Any one of them would put him up if he
asked. His parents would be happy to have him move back home. Actually, they’d be ecstatic
to have him under their roof, but his mother would be especially pleased to have him back
where she could express her concern over his love life and try to play matchmaker with
every gay man her friends knew.

Jake was an option, though not a great one. He had two places,
the bungalow on Great Highway and the Victorian he’d inherited from his father in the inner
Richmond. Once the renovation work had been completed back in November, Jake and his
boyfriend, Micah, had moved into the Richmond house, which meant the bungalow was
theoretically perfect. Diego was sure Jake would let him stay in the guest room as long as he
needed, but Diego wasn’t sure how long he couldstay because Alex was already
living there while he did some long overdue renovations on the place.

Diego winced as he remembered hitting on Alex at a friend’s
wedding last summer. The sight of Alex backing into a tray of champagne flutes and the
shatter of glass as they hit the group, not to mention the horrified and angry look on Alex’s
face, was not something Diego wanted to see again. So, no, Diego would not be asking Jake
for a place to stay.

With no other viable options coming to mind, he called Cart,
apologized for waking him, then asked if any of the apartments above the center were
open.

“The resident’s unit is being repainted, and Xave and Ess are
moving in there as soon as it’s ready.” Cart suppressed a yawn. “Sorry. If you can stand the
fumes, it’s got a bed.”

“I’ll open the windows. Thanks, man.” Diego shouldered his
backpack and began walking toward the Castro and the youth center.

“I’d offer our place, but Jen and Stephen are here with the
baby while theirs is being worked on. Try Jake in the morning. Between his two places, he’s
gotta have an extra room.”

“I’ll do that. Thanks,” Diego told him, but he’d figure something
else out. He wouldn’t share a house with someone who hated him if it were the last place on
Earth available to him.

the real world of queer culture and showing how love can survive even in challenging

possibility of love and, for Wesley, the one thing that has eluded him his entire life: a
beautiful moment.

Blurb

The decade from hell.

First, Wesley Traylor lost his father and grandmother, then
COVID took his mother. His sole remaining family member will stop at nothing to steal his
inheritance. In desperation, Wesley escapes to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where no one
knows him and he can exist without fear of his uncle’s brutality.

Circumstances force Wesley to the emergency room and
face to face with the beguiling Dr. Clark Matsuda. The last thing Wesley needs—between
dealing with strange occurrences at his new house and emergency surgery—is a doctor
who’s made it his personal mission to get to know Wesley.

Destiny offers the possibility of love and, for Wesley,
the one thing that has eluded him his entire life: a beautiful moment.

Stephen gestured for a nurse to come back in. “Let’s talk
out here.” He pulled Clark out into the hall. “No idea if it’s abuse, but his records might give
us some insight, which is why I wondered if he brought them. Some of the classic behavioral
signs are there; withdrawn, not the most charming when you talk to him and dig too deeply,
guarded, and no contacts, except for an emergency contact, who happens to be a
lawyer.”

“Also traits of someone who might be in trouble with the
police.” Clark hated to admit it, but there was always that possibility. Wesley didn’t strike
him as a criminal, though. Not at all, and that was Clark’s gut doing the talking.

“That crossed my mind,” Stephen agreed.

“Are you going to ask a friend of yours at the local Police
Department to look him up?”

“No.” Stephen shook his head. “The reason for that is the
burn marks on Mister Traylor’s feet. Like I said, I’m guessing they’re from childhood, so I’m
giving him the benefit of the doubt and leaning more towards abuse. If it is abuse and
someone is looking for him, any check my friend does will be officially logged, and it’s
possible the wrong eyes could see the inquiry, and the location.”

Clark mulled the situation over. “I’ll see about getting him
into the office, and getting permission to have his records sent here.” If nothing else, the
records would be a start. Unless, of course, someone was monitoring to see if his doctor
sent those records to a new location. Stranger things had happened, and if someone wanted
to stalk or locate someone else, it’d be a logical strategy.

“Be careful with that, okay?” Stephen warned. “We have no
idea what his story is, and it may not be something we want to get involved in, or even can
get involved in. There was enough drama around here during COVID. You had some
complications with the fallout of that yourself. Let’s not invite something else if we can avoid
it. Plus, it’s probably not any of our business, or what we’re thinking it might be.”

I’ve had Dilaudid before, and morphine.

Why did those words keep going through Clark’s mind?
Maybe Wesley’s story was exactly what they thought.

“He’s probably not going to give me permission anyway.”
Clark thought back to his conversations with Wesley and cringed. Had he actually offered to
bring the patient a bottle of wine after he recovered? Who does that?
Someone who babbles when he’s taken by surprise.
“I don’t think I made the best first impression.
Am pretty sure he’s not the least bit fond of me.”

“Hey there, sleepyhead,” the nurse piped up from inside
the surgical room. “You sure opened your eyes a whole lot sooner than I thought you would.
Let’s get you wheeled into recovery.”

He woke up sooner because he didn’t want to go
under.

Wesley must have used every bit of his willpower to open
his eyes as soon as possible, even if he wouldn’t remember it because of the anesthesia. Or
maybe it was fear. Fear could be a powerful motivator.

Clark heard the nurse adjust the pedals on the bottom of
the gurney and unlock the wheels in order to move Wesley into the recovery area. He and
Stephen stood to the side as the nurse wheeled Wesley out of the operating room and into
the hall.

“Let me know if you find anything out, Clark,” Stephen
commented, watching their patient go by.

Clark?” Wesley turned his head slowly
towards them, stared at the two doctors, or at least tried to. The poor man could barely
focus. Wesley grinned, clearly still somewhat loopy from the anesthesia. “Yerr names is
Clark?” he slurred. “What parents names their hot son Clarks?”

Stephen started laughing, reached out and put his arm
around Clark. “Not fond of you? It sounds to me like he likes you just fine. You may even
have an admirer.”

Clark felt his cheeks heat as blood rushed to his face. It
looked like he’d have to get that bottle of wine now after all. That was, if he ever wanted to
know a little bit more about how Wesley received those scars.

It may be like Stephen said. It may not be any of my
business.

What had Wesley said? You like my eyes. They hated me for them, but not you.

Who hated him? Who hates someone enough to burn the
bottoms of their feet, or leave scars on their back, arms, and forehead? Just what the hell
had he been through?

I’ve had Dilaudid before, and morphine.

Clark bet he had.

And I want to know why.

Blurb

Alpha Jay Russell’s broken engagement may just be the best thing that ever happened
to him. His ex-fiancé’s twin, Bari, is much more his type and straightforward about his flirting
and desire to unite their packs.

Jay returns home after his misadventures in
Centrus City to a new prophecy, an unknown enemy, and tribal unrest over a series of
racially-driven murders. Furious, Jay is determined to bring whoever’s responsible to
justice… but the unrest upsets the fragile peace he’s been working to achieve, threatens his
new lover’s life, and undermines his position as Alpha, which makes investigating a
challenge.

Can Jay and Bari work together to fight their inner
demons—and a strange adversary dead set on returning to the past—or will mistrust and
political machinations tear them apart?

Blue Moon Rising is the second book in the Moonlight Prophecies series. Fans of shifters,
soothsayers, and shadowy villains will fall under Amanda Meuwissen’s spell in this
suspenseful, sexy urban fantasy romance.

Excerpt

“I’m not texting or calling with what went on in Centrus
City. Those events need to be explained in person. What’s Ursula asking?” Jay added as an
aside, curious if she’d heard anything from the rumor mill.

“She knows you well.” Maximus scrolled through some of
the messages. “Wondering if you’re bringing home any strays with your new
husband.”

Jay cringed. He wasn’t even technically bringing home a
fiancé anymore. It was better things hadn’t worked out between him and Bashir, but that
didn’t mean what happened didn’t hurt. Instead of breaking things off between them from
the start, Bashir had slept with Ethan—twice—before Jay backed out of the marriage
himself. Jay just wanted to be someone’s first choice, but being a hopeless romantic didn’t
mean he had luck in love.

“You’re not still poring over pack reports, I hope.” Bari
appeared as if summoned, depositing himself gracefully in the seat next to Jay with a
dramatic crossing of one leg over the other and leaning toward him. Bashir smelled like
sandalwood, but Bari smelled like jasmine, another sign Bari was more Jay’s type, because
that smell made his insides quiver, and scent was a common factor in choosing a mate.
“Even an Alpha needs to take breaks, darling. And we’re nearly home! Well, home for you.
Speaking of….” He batted impossibly long lashes, and his exaggerated nature reminded Jay
like a slap to the face how different he was from Bashir in every way. “Foolish little ol’ me
forgot to look into any hotels. I hope everything won’t be booked.”

Maximus scoffed at the obvious lead-in, but Jay had already
intended this offer.

“No hotel necessary,” Jay said, enjoying Bari’s scent but
trying to stay focused and hopefully not look as red in the face as he felt. “Only Max and our
Magister are mated, so we have plenty of spare rooms at our den. We’ll head there once the
train arrives so you can get settled and I can address my circle about what’s gone on the past
few weeks.”

“You haven’t told them anything?”

“Not yet, but I’m sure they’ve heard whispers. While I
intend to tell my circle everything, I’ll make sure it’s understood that talk of Seers, Focuses,
and Nulls needs to be kept as only gossip for everyone else.”

“My pack thanks you for that,” Bari said with a gentle touch
to Jay’s arm. He was very casually physical, another contrast to his brother. “I know you were
gone much longer than planned. I hope everything ran smoothly without you.”

“Smooth enough,” Maximus growled, reminding Jay that
they weren’t alone. “Are you an ambassador or a spy?”

“Max,” Jay chided him.

“It’s okay,” Bari dismissed. “I was prying. I won’t pretend
like Bash didn’t ask me to keep him informed of the state of your city. But allies should be
honest with each other.” He looked squarely at Maximus and grinned. “When I spy, I’ll warn
you first.”

Maximus turned away with another scoff.

“But before any espionage, I’m looking forward to a better
meal than the train food we had for lunch.” Bari returned his attention to Jay. “Would you
like to get dinner later?”

In an instant, Jay was a flustered teenager again because he
couldn’t think of a response. He wasn’t used to anyone being so forward with him, especially
someone who’d almost sort of already proposed.

“He’s been gone for weeks,” Maximus broke in, “and you
think he’s going to immediately start playing tour guide just because—”

Max,” Jay chided again, which at least
helped him find his voice. He knew his Second was only looking out for him, but being a
good Alpha meant taking time for himself too, something he often forgot. “Pack business
comes first, always,” he reassured Maximus, and then looked to Bari. “But I do have to eat.
I’d love to take you to dinner tonight.”

There was that unique crinkle at the corners of Bari’s eyes
that Jay had never seen on Bashir. “Marvelous. It’s a date. That is a very fetching shirt on
you, by the way.” He lightly tugged Jay’s collar and stroked once more down his arm before
getting up and heading back toward Theresa and William with a sly smirk.

It wasn’t that special of a shirt, Jay thought, just
black with a few horizontal stripes in gray, but since he’d taken his jacket off during the ride,
he supposed the short sleeves flattered his biceps well, which was where Bari had
touched.

Jay realized he’d followed Bari’s retreat almost to the point
of turning in his chair and quickly sat forward again.

Maximus stared at him deadpan.

“What? It’s just dinner.”

As soon as Maximus huffed and looked back out at the city,
Jay couldn’t contain his smile. Just dinner—
