He thought he was saving the farm. He never expected to lose his heart.

Blurb

Sometimes you have to fake it before you make it—especially when it comes to marriage.

When a father’s hatred becomes a weapon from beyond the grave, two men must fake a marriage to save a family farm.

Finn has hurt him once. Can Ben survive being married to the man he desires most in the world without his heart being crushed in the process?

Located in the fictional town of Murrilup, Western Australia, Boolgarrin is a tender marriage-of-convenience romance. Amidst small-town prejudice and a vengeful neighbour, two men hope for a second chance at love.

Excerpt

Ben couldn’t sleep. He twisted in the sheets, fists clenching against the mattress. The ceiling above seemed to tilt with the shadows, and his breath caught sharp and uneven, as if the ground had shifted beneath him.  He was used to having control of his life, and now he felt completely unbalanced.  His mind was racing.  In one day, his whole life had been upended.  Amelia and Josie had started wedding planning.  The admission by Finn, though, was what really blind-sided him.

He finally gave up on sleep. Slipping his feet into his slippers, he padded into the kitchen.

He smiled faintly as he put a couple of brownies in the microwave, then turned to flick on the kettle and noticed pots simmering on the stove. Iris made the best brownies.

“Sorry,” he said. “I thought I’d be the only one up.”

Amelia appeared from the pantry, smiling tiredly.

“Can’t sleep either?” he asked.

She shook her head and gestured to the kitchen bench. “Come sit. I’m just finishing something.”

“I can make my tea and head back to my room,” Ben said.

“Nah, come and join me,” she said, pulling out one of the breakfast stools.  After helping herself to some water from the fridge door, she sat down.

They sat together briefly, neither saying anything.

“What are you making?” asked Ben, breaking the silence.

“Hand cream.”

“It smells amazing.”

“Thanks,” said Amelia. She smiled, the first genuine smile Ben had seen from her all day. “I’ve been selling some at the farmers’ market in Bremer Bay. Nothing major, just pocket money really, but people seem to like them.”  She returned to the pots on the stove and started stirring them.

“Selling them?” Ben raised his eyebrows. “That’s brilliant, Amelia. Have you thought about expanding it?”

She shrugged. ” I wanted to. I have notebooks full of ideas, including new scents and packaging designs, and I’ve even researched what it would take to start officially.” Her face fell slightly. “Dad said university was a waste of money for girls. That I’d just get married and have babies anyway, so why bother with business studies?  He was happy to spend money on the stuff I needed to make the product, but he wasn’t happy with me selling any, even at the market.”

Ben felt that familiar anger toward his father rising in his chest. “That’s rubbish, Amelia. You know that, right?”

“I know. But when someone tells you something often enough…” She trailed off, focusing intently on her stirring.

“You could still do it, you know. Study business. Sell these.” Ben gestured toward her pot of hand cream. “Finn would help with the legal stuff.”

Amelia’s face brightened. “You think he’d help?”

“Of course he would. Especially after…” Ben paused, realising he was about to bring up the marriage arrangement. “Well, especially considering everything he’s doing for us.”

For a while, the kitchen was quiet except for the sound of Amelia’s spoon scraping the sides of the pot. Ben stared into his tea, Finn’s words from earlier echoing in his head.

“Can I ask you something?” Amelia said quietly.

“Sure.”

“I saw your face when Nate said Finn would move in. Why is that such a big deal? He used to stay over all the time.”

Ben raked a hand through his hair. “That was different. Back then, he was just Nate’s friend.”

Amelia tilted her head. “So?”

He took a big breath.  “It’s a lot, okay?”

“I know, but …”

“Look, if I tell you something, do you promise to never tell anyone, not Finn and definitely not Nate?”

She nodded, “Of course.  I love you, brother. I’m just trying to understand.”

“I’ve never told anyone this before.”

“Then I’m honoured you trust me.”

He laughed nervously and began, fingers picking at his nails.  “When I was seventeen, he came over, but Nate was out with Josie.  Their relationship was still new, and they had gone to the Stirling Ranges, where they planned to have a picnic and do the Kanga Walk.  He told me that he would hang around until they got back, as he hadn’t let Nate know that he was coming anyway.  We had a great afternoon.  We went for a ride and sat down by the old Moreton Bay Fig Tree.  When we returned, he came into my room and we played video games.  We just talked and laughed, and I may have just snaffled a port, so we may have had a drink or two too.”

Amelia arched a brow.  “You may have?”

“Fine, I definitely did.” Ben grinned briefly.  “Finn was more used to drinking than me, but we both became a little tipsy.”

“Oh no.  This is going to be bad, isn’t it?” Ben nodded his head.

“I started talking to him about how he had the most beautiful, deep blue eyes, like the ocean, that someone could drown in.  I even told him his eyes were cobalt blue.”  Ben put his hands over his face.  “I mean how geeky is that?”

Amelia shrugged and continued to stir her concoction on the stove.  “I don’t know, it’s not as if you told him the hex code for the colour.”

Ben laughed and shook his head.  “No, but it gets worse.  I then told him what kissable lips he has, and then I leaned forward and kissed him.  At first tentatively, but then when he put an arm around me, I reached out and pulled my hands through his hair.”  Ben closed his eyes; the mere thought of that kiss always brought him back to that night, the softness of Finn’s hair and the feel of his lips. It was as if electricity shot through Ben.  Before Ben knew it, he had acted on instinct, their lips moving together, Ben’s tongue moving across the seam between Finn’s lips.  Finn responded, sliding his arm around Ben’s waist and kissing him back. When Finn moaned, Ben pulled him closer.

“Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.”

“Nate,” said Amelia quietly.  She had stopped stirring and was sitting opposite Ben on a stool.  Ben nodded and put his hands over his cheeks.

“Finn jumped back, causing me to step back.  Our hair was mussed, our skin flushed, and our lips swollen.  Nate opened the door and told Finn that he was home.  He had dropped Josie off on the way.  He looked between the two of us, and I still have no idea what he was thinking.  Finn told him he would join him in a sec.”

“Close call.  I’m glad that Nate didn’t just walk in.”

I shook my head.  “I’m so glad too.  It was bad enough as it was.”

Amelia reached over and put her hand over mine.  “What happened next?”

“Nate’s forehead creased, and he looked like he was going to say something, but then he closed the door and left.”

“Finn spoke quietly, presumably so that Nate wouldn’t hear, but there was a forcefulness to his voice.    ‘What the heck!’ he had exclaimed, ‘we’re both men.’  I looked down, thinking that I’d misread all the signals.  I thought he had liked it.  He told me in no uncertain terms that it could not happen again, as he didn’t like me that way.  He then left the room, while I slumped to the floor, wondering how I was ever going to recover.”

Amelia reached across and squeezed his hand. “So, that’s why you started trying to avoid him?”

“Was I that obvious?”  Ben rubbed his chest, wondering why it hurt so badly all these years later.

“Yep.  Sorry, but it was very obvious.”

“It was only a couple of weeks later that I came out to you and Nate.”

“So, you fell in love with Finn when you were drunk.”

Ben shook his head.  “No, I had had a big crush on him for a couple of years, before I, well, before that incident.”

“Look, I can see why it was embarrassing back then, but I don’t see why it is such a problem now.”

“Because I made a fool of myself.  I was so utterly embarrassed that I couldn’t face him until now.”  Ben paused.  “Even now.”

“But is it really that bad?  I mean, you made a pass and he kissed you back, right?”

“Right.”

“And he wrapped his arm around you?”

“Yes.”

“Then, when you were nearly caught by Nate, he lied and told you he wasn’t gay.”

“Right again.  I didn’t even know he was gay until today.”

“I still don’t get why you were so embarrassed.”

“He rejected me, and he is my brother’s best friend, which meant that I had to face that rejection every day.”

Amelia shook her head.  “Ben, I think that he may have rejected you with his words, but his actions say something else.  I think he was attracted to you and liked the kiss.  When he was nearly caught by Nate, he freaked out.”

Darklight Series by Sean Ian O’Meidhir & Connal Braginsky

Series Blurb

The Darklight series follows the tumultuous and increasingly complex journey of Nathen Hale, a newly awakened vampire on the autism spectrum, and Cameron Corazon, a powerful telepathic psychologist. What begins as a recruitment into a corporate scheme by Impetus—a shadowy mega-corporation involved in vampiric experimentation—soon spirals into a global conspiracy involving mages, shapeshifters, fae, and supernatural politics. As Nathen and Cameron navigate a deepening relationship, they find themselves entangled in ancient fae wars, corporate espionage, and the philosophical implications of artificial intelligence when they “adopt” SpArk—a sentient AI program with ever-growing consciousness. Alongside their fiercely loyal hacker friend Syn and other allies both old and new, they uncover horrifying truths about humanity, blood magic, and the creatures that lurk in both shadow and boardroom. At its core, Darklight is a queer, emotionally rich exploration of identity, neurodivergence, love, and survival in a world where power is hidden behind glass towers and ancient names, and where even memory can be rewritten. The story crescendos into a looming fae war that could change the very nature of reality itself.

Excerpt

From Chapter Four, Lemniscate, Book 4

Fitful dreams accompanied Cameron through sleep and now he stared at August whose thoughts were still and eyes were shut as if in a sort of trance. Nathen’s mind wandered his pocket realm of cyber nirvana and Cameron met mental static. How was it he, the telepath who could get lost in listening to a thousand mental voices, and the two he wanted to talk to right now were unavailable—like and old-fashioned busy signal on a phone? He imagined shaking their mental 8-ball toy and coming up with “Reply hazy, try again later.”

Their plan is stupid! Go in and “talk” with a fae? Fae are unreasonable on the best of days. But that is the plan. He couldn’t do anything against the fae. But the shifters? —They were another story. How did I explode Jacks’s brain? Jacks… Cameron mentally growled. Unconsciously, he scanned and found the man. Asleep. Cameron seethed. I could go shoot him. Jacks and Sabrina were together. Sleeping? How was it that Sabrina slept? Wasn’t she a vampire? But he could feel her mind, even though he couldn’t touch it. He had tried all night as they tossed around different ideas but ultimately had agreed to August’s proposal. “Know thine enemy,” as August had put it.

Cameron went through his morning routine and the enticing aroma of his mother’s chilaquiles coaxed him into the dining room where he found Julia setting out fresh squeezed fruit juice and Serge and Alfonso already eating.

“Good morning, mi corazón,” his mom kissed his cheek, setting a plate of deliciousness in front of him.

How have I lived without Mom’s cooking for the last decade? “This looks amazing,” Cameron sat down where she had placed the plate of freshly fried tortilla chips, scrambled eggs, and homemade ranchero sauce all layered together with gooey cheese. Always best if eaten immediately, Cameron did not hesitate.

“Your mother is an amazing cook,” Serge said, loud enough for his mom to hear in the kitchen.

“Gracias,” she called back, a smile in her voice.

“You should try her carne asada! I have suffered what California thinks is good for far too long.”

“Ah, we’ve come close.” Syn joined them, setting her laptop on the table only to close it when Maria appeared with a plate for her. “Close but no comparison,” she smiled up at Maria, apologetically.

“Mija, I would think you would have made it yourself. You know all my recipes.”

Cameron laughed. “Oh yes, she sure does. But she’s sneaky and only cooks when she wants something from me.”

“It’s called conditioning. Clean house equals guac.” Syn shot him a wicked smirk, and Cameron relaxed, reveling in home. Sure, it was some swanky apartment in New York with imminent death looming, but he tucked away this momentto savor in the future—a practice he had started a long time ago and a reminder to live in the “now.”

Cameron kept his head down and held on to the good feelings as long as he could, shoveling food into his face and actively ignoring Jacks, who had sauntered into the room and sat right down, allowing his mom to serve him too. Tugged out of his focused noshing, Cameron glanced up to find the room had grown quiet. They were looking at him.

“What’d I miss?” He silently kicked himself for sounding like Nathen.

“We were asking if Nathen and August are all right?” Syn asked softly. “Figured you were talking to them?”

He hadn’t been but decided to play it off. “Nathen’s deep in research since we did ask him to do what he could via his magic. And August is also researching using his tablet. He has all his coven’s books on there,” he explained. He mentally gave each a little nudge to see, and only Nathen responded, so he flashed images of everyone in the dining room, asking if he wanted to join.

Sometimes the sweetest victories happen off the ice.

Blurb

Ryland Zervudachi lives for the game of hockey—and for the chance to build the kind of team unity that will carry the Columbus Pilots all the way back to the playoffs after last season’s crushing defeat. Off the ice, though, there’s one goal he hasn’t managed to score—the heart of Kyle Dabbs, the Vermont Trailblazers’ team captain and his long-time crush.

Kyle Dabbs has built a life centered on quiet strength. After a childhood scarred by his father’s verbal abuse, Dabbs pours his energy into his career on the ice and the book series he’s written to help kids like the boy he once was. He doesn’t need someone flashy, loud, and spotlight-loving like Ryland turning his world upside down.

But when an untimely appendectomy leaves Dabbs stuck at home, Ryland—recovering from an injury—shows up to help. Between late-night Scrabble competitions, pumpkin- carving mishaps, and long talks that peel back layers they’ve both kept hidden, Dabbs begins to see past Ryland’s bold exterior.

With chemistry sparking and walls crumbling, both men must decide if they’re ready to risk their hearts for something even better than a championship: love.

Excerpt

“Hey,” Ryland said, his mouth going dry when Dabbs’ gaze met his. “How’s your summer been so far?”

Dabbs leaned his forearms on the top of the high-backed kitchen chair on his left. It sent his biceps straining against his blue T-shirt. Ryland forced his gaze off them.

“Well, let’s see,” Dabbs said, his voice a deep timber that stroked along Ryland’s skin. “Bellamy and I just moved into a new place, so there are still boxes of crap taking up floor space in the kitchen. One of the kids at hockey camp this week decided the ice was too slippery, so he sat out almost every activity. And one of my dogs swallowed a bee.”

Ryland gasped. “Oh my god. Is he okay?”

“He’s fine.” Dabbs regarded him for a long moment, his expression softening. “Nice of you to be concerned though. How has your summer been?”

“Oh, its . . . ” Ryland stumbled over his words for a moment, still stuck on Nice of you to be concerned. “Fine. Good. I can’t top any of that, but my niece did puke candy all over my feet when I picked her up from daycare last week.”

Dabbs made a face. “Gross.”

“I was wearing flip-flops.”

Dabbs made gagging sounds.

“Imagine trying to get vomit out from under your toenails.”

“Oh god, stop talking.” Dabbs straightened and covered his mouth with the back of his hand, as though his gag reflex had engaged.

“On a lighter note, I built a canoe.”

“You . . . what?”

“Built a canoe. Well, me and six other people. We took part in a canoe-building workshop in Glen Hill over the past two months, and we built a communal wood strip canoe. We even took it out onto the water last week.”

“Did it float?”

Putting on his most scandalized Southern belle impression, Ryland brought his hand up to his chest. “Excuse you. Yes, it floated. Rude.”

Dabbs chuckled. “Sorry. You just don’t seem like the woodworking type.”

“Oh, I know how to work wood.” Ryland gave Dabbs an up and down glance. “Very, very well.”

He wasn’t sure what to expect from Dabbs. For him to be so turned on that his cheeks pinked and he stuttered over his words?

Dabbs, coolly confident in a way Ryland had never managed, did neither of those things. Instead, he drawled a lazy, “Me too,” and added three tiles to the Scrabble board, adding wo, and d to an existing o.

Wood.

Ryland had to laugh, surprised by this aspect of Dabbs’ sense of humor. “Not exactly what I meant.”

Dabbs grinned. “Wood for eight points, plus a double letter score on the w for a total of twelve points. Your turn.”

Swearing under his breath—word games weren’t Ryland’s strong suit—he added a g and a to an existing e, netting himself four points for get.

“It’s okay,” Dabbs said. “We can’t all be good at everything.”

Ryland laughed. “Oh, you did not just go there.”

“Hey, are we heading out to dinner, or what?” Jason called from the front door. “I’ll drive.”

“Do you play darts, Dabbs?” Ryland asked, grabbing his wallet from the table in the foyer.

“I’ve played a game or two,” Dabbs said hesitatingly. “Why do I get the feeling I’m going to regret admitting that?”

Ryland grinned. “You’ll see.” And followed the group out the door.

The problem?

He lectures at the university where I study. Fooling around with students is frowned upon. But with my graduation right around the corner, it’s a risk we’re willing to take. Besides, it’s only one night. Isn’t it?

Falling for the Professor is a high-heat, 50,000-word contemporary M/M romance, with an eight-year age-gap, lots of sneaking around, encounters in semi-public places, and a lecturer who discovers he loves being called ‘Professor’.

Excerpt

“Still alone?” I ask casually.

Richard glances at me and then nods.

“I could be wrong, but isn’t whisky best drunk cold? I’m not much of a whisky drinker myself.”

“You prefer beer?”

I smile. “Yeah, although I’m on non-alcoholic stuff tonight.” I tap my pocket so my keys jangle.

“I was intending on getting so drunk I wouldn’t be able to drive.”

“How’s that going?”

He picks up his glass, sloshes the warm whisky, and sets it down. “Terribly.” He glances over his shoulder. “Where are your friends?”

“They left.”

“And you didn’t go with them?”

“I can still catch up with them. I wanted to make sure you were okay, first.”

He frowns. “Why?”

Because he’s gorgeous and I hate seeing him sad? “Want to talk about it?”

He stares at me, lips quivering as though he’s having an internal debate about whether to confide in me or not.

“I won’t tell anyone.”

“Gossip has a habit of spreading on campus.”

“It won’t come from me.” I cross my fingers over my heart.

He holds up his left hand and wiggles his bare ring finger. “I caught my wife cheating on me.”

I suck in a breath. “Shit. That’s rough. Sorry.”

He drops his hand. “Which is why I had every intention of getting shit-faced.”

“But—?”

He shrugs. “I don’t know. I got here, ordered the drink and…”

“Didn’t feel like getting drunk after all?”

“Exactly.”

“What do you want to do?”

He drags his stare away from his drink and pins it on me. He has the most beautiful honey brown eyes. Breathless, I’m helpless to do anything but stare back.

“I don’t want to be alone,” he whispers.

I grin. “Then you’re in luck.”

He raises his eyebrows. “I am?”

“Yeah. It just so happens I’m great company.”

He chuckles softly and raises his lips into the faintest hint of a smile. “Are you now?”

“Want me to stick around so you can find out if I’m telling the truth or not?”

He’s silent for a moment, searching my eyes for something. “I’d like that.”

Blurb

Desperate to escape the pain of his brother’s death, Jesse Melnik ran—but he couldn’t outrun the grief, no matter how much distance he put between himself and his past. Now, after fifteen years of trying, he’s finally ready to face his hometown of Charlottetown again.

He expects the memories of his brother to hover in every corner of his family’s sailboat and whisper in every sea-tinged breeze.

What he doesn’t expect is Parker Willis, the best friend he left behind without a word the day he fled.

And he certainly doesn’t expect old feelings to resurface.

Parker’s been stuck in a rut since his father died three months ago. Every day is the same: try to keep his father’s dinner cruise business afloat so he can chip away at Dad’s debts, all while working a job that leaves him more frustrated than satisfied.

Then Parker’s routine shatters in the best way possible: Jesse Melnik returns to Prince Edward Island for the summer, all six feet three inches of gorgeous hockey player.

Now, that’s different.

Jesse kickstarts Parker’s heart.

 Parker makes Jesse feel again.

And although both men are a little bit damaged from struggling down the broken path of loss, maybe—just maybe—if they can lean on each other, they’ll learn to move forward at last.

Content warnings: themes of grief, discussions of a parent’s death from cancer, discussions/descriptions of a sibling’s death from suicide

Excerpt

Jesse glanced over and nearly swallowed his tongue.

How dare running shorts be so goddamn tiny and cling so goddamn nicely to long, shapely legs dusted with hair the same shade as the finest dark chocolate? Jesse was still reeling at being in the same place at the same time as Parker for the first time in years—had, in fact, tossed and turned all night thinking about Parker—and now he showed up out of nowhere again and sent Jesse’s libido into a jumble of desire and yearning?

There were things that Jesse had left in his past, and his attraction to his best friend was supposed to be one of them.

Former best friend? Best friend he’d recently gotten reacquainted with? Former best friend who could be his new best friend?

Fuck. Relationships were hard.

Along with the shorts, Parker also wore a long-sleeved running shirt in teal and a baseball hat with Montreal hockey’s logo on the front. His dark hair curled out from underneath the sides of the hat, and the two-day stubble on his jaw was way sexier than Jesse wanted to admit. He was a couple of inches shorter than Jesse’s six foot three, but whereas Jesse was—admittedly—very big, even for a defenceman, Parker was lanky and toned, the muscle definition obvious in his running gear in a way it hadn’t been in the jeans and Willis Dinner Cruises-branded long-sleeved T-shirt he’d been wearing last night when he’d appeared like a figment of Jesse’s childhood wishes and sat next to him on the bench at the marina.

Whatever he wore, Parker looked like he’d fit into all of Jesse’s empty spaces.

Shaking his head to rid himself of that thought, he shoved his phone back in his pocket and scowled. “I’ll get you a new hat.”

Parker’s lips quirked. “I like this hat.”

“Since when are you a Montreal fan?”

“Hey, don’t knock them. They made it to the playoffs.”

The unlike you was left unsaid, but Jesse heard it loud and clear and refused to be amused.

“So.” Parker’s shoulder bumped up against his. “What are you doing?”

“What are you doing?”

“This is my jogging route.”

“That so?” Jesse would have to remember to be by his window in the mornings so he could watch Parker run by in his short shorts.

“Mm-hmm. Is it your jogging route?”

“No.”

“What are you doing here then?”

Glancing back at the house, Jesse let out a long breath. “Deciding what to tackle first. What colour would you paint that door?”

Parker blinked once and frowned. “Why would you paint it any colour?”

“Because that rusty red makes me think of dead bodies on a crime show?”

“No, I mean . . .” That unique greyish-greenish gaze of Parker’s swung from Jesse to the house and back. “Do you know the people who live here? Are you doing work for them this summer or something?”

I live here,” Jesse said. “And I don’t want to live with that gross colour for the next two months.”

“You . . . bought a house?”

Jesse grunted.

“But you live in Vancouver,” Parker said slowly, as though reminding Jesse of this fact.

“No, I know, but . . .”

But what? He’d wanted a project for the summer? Something that would keep him occupied so he didn’t have to think about where he was and why he was back for the first time in fifteen years? A fixer-upper was as good a distraction as anything.

His therapist wouldn’t love that he was keeping busy instead of sitting with and analyzing his feelings. But she didn’t have to know. Right?

When Jesse didn’t continue, Parker said, “Are you retiring from hockey and moving back here?”

“Fuck no,” Jesse blurted.

Sometimes a happy ending comes with heartbreak.

Blurb

Sometimes a happy ending comes with heartbreak.

Falling in love with my father’s best friend wasn’t on my to-do list. Yes, he’s hot. Sure, I’ve been flirting with him since I was sixteen. Of course I’d be down for a little fun.

When Laiken begins returning my flirting, things get heated. It was supposed to be sexy summer fun and nothing more. We weren’t planning on making this a forever thing.

But falling in love isn’t a choice.

As it turns out, not everyone agrees and sometimes disapproval is loud, painful, and heartbreaking.

This is a LGBTQIA+ story with content not intended for those under 18 years of age due to graphic scenes and situations.

Excerpt

I’m no stranger to Elijah Cain. I’ve seen him nearly every single day of his life since the moment he was conceived. His father, Nason, and I have been friends for over thirty years.

He began flirting with me four years ago when he was in high school, and at the time, I found it nothing but amusing. He was a kid. He’s my best friend’s son. In a way, he felt like my nephew.

But when he came home from college a few months ago, he’d suddenly stopped looking like a child to me. He was now an adult. Everything about him had grown up. And I’ve found that I really like every damn thing I see.

He’s adorable. He looks so much like his father but with his mother’s Latina complexion. The combination of Miranda and Nason is simply breathtaking. I’ve always thought so. I’ve always thought that Elijah was an adorable child.

Adorable has grown up into a man that never leaves my mind. His flirting hasn’t stopped. If anything, it’s increased. I’m not sure if he’s just a flirt or if it’s intentionally directed at me.

Not that it matters. I can’t go there. That’s Nason’s kid! My best friend’s only child and the man whom I can’t stop thinking about day or night.

Ellis Isaacs falls in love with his new boss, silver fox Richard Quillen, but worries Richard will find him inaccessible or cold. Will the older man see Ellis’s true heart and return his feelings?

Shorter blurb

At the Kissinger-Mann detective agency, the mystery of love is solved just as often as crimes. When detective Ellis Isaacs joins the agency, he falls in love with his silver fox of a boss, Richard Quillen. But Ellis worries Richard will find him inaccessible or even cold. Will the older, wiser man see Ellis’s true heart and return his feelings, or will Ellis’s heart remain hidden?

Longer Blurb

At the Kissinger-Mann detective agency, the mystery of love is solved just as often as crimes. When detective Ellis Isaacs joins the agency, he falls in love with his silver fox of a boss, Richard Quillen. However, Ellis faces two big problems: He tends to fall for straight men, and even when he doesn’t, Ellis’s ex-boyfriends claim he is inaccessible or even cold. Also, he has no idea how Richard will react to the age gap between them.

As Ellis works hard to spend time with Richard outside of work, problem after problem unfolds. Is Richard straight, or is he already dating a male co-worker? Is the age gap a problem, or is the issue Ellis’s reputation for being cold? Will this older, wiser man see Ellis’s true heart and return his feelings, or will Ellis’s heart remain hidden?

Excerpt

Ellis steeled himself and headed across the hallway to Richard’s office. On the strength of the single donut he had eaten on the way there and half a cappuccino, Ellis paused in the doorway and gathered his nerve. It was time to ask the man out for coffee.

Richard was already seated at his desk, wearing a dark gray suit and a maroon bowtie. He read over papers that filled a manila folder. As expected, he was breathtakingly handsome.

Ellis took another sip of cappuccino for courage and then spoke. “Sorry to interrupt you, but I have a question.”

Richard glanced up. “Hm?” He met Ellis’s gaze and gave him a smile. “Not at all. What is it? I’m always here to help.”

If only you could help in the way that I wish you would. “I’d like to get coffee with you sometime this week. At lunch, maybe? Or tomorrow morning? We could even go after work, if that’s better timing.” Ellis’s heart pounded. He always hated this part: setting himself up for rejection.

“Well, sure,” Richard said. “Be glad to. We could get some coffee tomorrow morning if you’re an early bird like me, or we can have lunch. I know a café not far from here that has great sandwiches and decent coffee.” He looked curious, one eyebrow lifting, although he didn’t ask any questions.

“Lunch is perfect,” Ellis said. “Let’s shoot for noon today.” This was the closest he had ever gotten to asking an older man out on a date. Despite his miserable track record with men in general, he’d managed to go on dates with men his own age. That was how he knew he wasn’t interested in getting serious with any of them. At securing a lunch with Richard, Ellis felt a smile threatening to overtake his face, and his heart still raced. “We can always leave a couple of minutes early or late depending on how our mornings go.”

“True,” Richard said. “All right. As soon as you’re ready for lunch, stop by. I’m just doing paperwork today.” There was a kind twinkle in his eyes.

“Great!” Ellis headed up to the third floor to his office, his dour Monday morning officially turned around. I asked a silver fox out for coffee, and he actually said yes.

Blurbette

When it is revealed Daniel’s best friend is Josh’s secret father, he must choose between financial security and the chance for a future with the man of his dreams. Will this forbidden love conquer the odds?

Full blurb

In the City of London, Josh works tirelessly to provide financial security for his younger sister, following the tragic deaths of his parents. He longs for a connection with his birth father who doesn’t want Josh to wreck his perfect life. Mature beyond his years, Josh craves the love and stability of an older man to anchor him.

Daniel, a wildly successful lawyer, works hard and plays even harder. His heart is closed to love after the betrayal of his ex-husband, until he meets Josh, twenty years his junior, and the executive assistant of one of his clients. Their chemistry ignites during a passionate weekend, initially driven by lust, awakening feelings Daniel never thought he’d experience again.

But fate has a cruel twist in store: Daniel’s best friend is also Josh’s birth father, making their love utterly forbidden. With a tempting offer on the table from his father to walk away, will Josh choose financial security or take a chance on love? And can Daniel convince Josh that the only choice he needs to make is to follow his heart?

Excerpt

The warmth of the coffee shop was a welcome relief from the biting cold of January. The UK weather was always unpredictable, but it was guaranteed January and February would be ball-freezing cold.

“Good morning, Daniel,” said Jakub, the owner.

Daniel had moved to Hampstead three years ago after selling the marital home and finalising his divorce. He’d been coming to this independent coffee shop ever since. Jakub knew him well, and he raised a questioning brow when Josh was looking the other way. All Daniel could do was smile and act like it was nothing. The fact was, in all the time he’d lived in this area, he’d never brought another man to his favourite little coffee haunt.

“Morning, Jakub. My usual please. Josh, what would you like?”

Josh was in his own world, looking at the eclectic décor of the coffee shop. If you knew Jakub, it was very him – chaotic yet calm. A mishmash of different chairs and tables packed in, with nothing matching. Calm pastel colours on the walls, with a variety of art from local queer talent.

“Josh.”

Daniel put his hand on Josh’s shoulder, causing him to startle a little. He turned and smiled, looking a bit embarrassed. Daniel loved how much he blushed, because it made him look even more adorably cute.

“What would you like to drink?”

“Oh, erm . . .”

Josh looked up at the menu board, looking uncertain about what to choose. Jakub had a great place here, but the choices were limited to the staples. Daniel was getting irritated – not at Josh’s indecisiveness, but at what had happened to the assertive, needy boy who’d begged for his cock earlier.

“You can’t go wrong with one of my cappuccinos,” said Jakub, picking up on the awkwardness.

Josh let out an audible sigh of relief and nodded at Jakub. He shot a “what the fuck” look at Daniel as he steered Josh to a table. The coffee shop wasn’t too busy; it was past the lunch rush. After their breakfast, and morning fuck, they’d had another nap before showering together. Then he’d dropped to his knees and sucked another load out of Josh. Oh, to be twenty-five again.

“Are you okay, Josh?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“Tell me if I’m overstepping here, but you seemed overwhelmed when you were ordering your coffee.”

“Oh, that’s just how I am.”

“What do you mean?”

“I’m indecisive when there are lots of choices. That’s why I love my job with Oscar. He’s very clear in what he wants. No room for ambiguity. Life’s easier that way, don’t you think?”

It was hard to argue with his logic, but life just wasn’t like that. It was constant ambiguousness and second-guessing. Intuition was essential for survival, and he wasn’t sure if Josh went with his gut very often.

“Is there anything you’ve got going on now that you’re struggling to decide about? Maybe I can help, as a neutral observer,” he smiled.

“Spoken like a true lawyer.”

Daniel chuckled. He wasn’t wrong there, but what he really wanted was for Josh to open up to him and share what was bothering him, because something was.

“I guess . . . well . . . please don’t take this the wrong way . . .”
