Every rose has its
thorns.

Blurb

Jaime is looking for sanctuary and a new start after
escaping his stepfather. With little money to his name, he doubts he can afford the gorgeous
bed and breakfast he stumbles upon, surrounded by tea roses inside and out. Then Logan,
the handsome young concierge, surprises Jaime with a ‘pay what you can’ policy, and Jaime
is instantly smitten.

Little does Jaime know the Tea House is plagued by rumors
of monsters and disappearances and is known by another name.

Hollow House.

Excerpt

“What do you do?” Jaime took his first bite of filet and
nearly had his eyes roll into the back of his head.

Wow.

“I’m an investigative journalist. Sort of. Trying to be. I work
for an online publication focused on the paranormal and unsolved mysteries right now.
That’s why I’m here.”

“Here? For what?”

“There’s local rumors about this place being cursed or
something and having a run of unexplained disappearances. When it’s not the Tea House,
people call it…” Rick glanced around and leaned closer as if sharing a great secret. “Hollow
House.”

Jaime would have laughed, but he couldn’t help the chill
that trickled down his spine. “Hollow? Why that?”

Rick shrugged. “Like a hollow in a tree, I guess. You know, a
bottomless pit that sucks you in and you never leave. Well, some people leave. But there are
stories!”

Jaime relaxed. Stories was probably all it was, and it wasn’t
hard to imagine where they’d come from with an old building like this and all the mystery
around a benefactor. “I’ll let you know if any of the roses start wilting.”

Rick barked a laugh. “Eh, it pays.”

Logan was finishing up serving the family, after taking a few
custom orders for milk and some extra bread. At least the family genuinely seemed nice, all
thanking Logan affably, even the little girl, who couldn’t have been older than four.

As Logan wheeled the food cart back across the room,
Sheila and Gary stopped him to order wine. There must be a limit on glasses the guests
could have because Gary tried slipping a twenty into Logan’s pocket with a request for a
couple
bottles, but Logan politely refused and set the bill on the table.

Rick stopped him to ask for a glass of wine too. “You,
Jaime?”

“Oh, um… I like wine, and my mom used to let me have a
glass or two on occasion, but I’m not old enough.” He felt like a preteen having to say that
even though he was almost twenty and hardly a kid.

“Guess you won’t make an exception in this case either,
huh, Mr. Concierge?” Rick grinned Logan’s way.

Logan looked honestly apologetic. “I’m sorry, Jaime,
but—”

“It’s fine,” Jaime broke in. A glass of wine would have been
nice after the day he’d had, but he didn’t want to get Logan in trouble. “Thanks anyway.
Dinner is amazing.”

Logan preened again, and then proceeded to move the cart
into the corner of the room near the door before departing, which still had several covered
plates on it, as if waiting for other patrons.

“Jaime, huh? He’s never used my first name
before,” Rick said with a teasing smirk, and Jaime felt the heat rise in his cheeks. “Don’t
worry. I won’t ask you to try schmoozing for my benefit just coz he likes you. Not that I’m
not tempted. I don’t think I’m ever gonna crack him. I keep trying to catch some of the other
help instead, but they are seriously ghosts. I’ve never seen a single one.”

“Maybe because they’re all really good at their jobs and
like it here,” Jaime offered. It wasn’t hard to tell Logan took great pride in his work. “They
don’t want some reporter getting them fired.”

“Fair.” Rick chuckled. “But a haunting or monster story
exposé could be good for business. People love that stuff! Why do you think I have a job?
Anyway, there’s always at least one unhappy worker. I just need to find them. I was thinking
of staying up as late as I can tonight, maybe take a midnight stroll through the halls. Feel like
joining me?”

Jaime coughed around his next heavenly bite of filet. He
liked Rick. This wasn’t some creep trying to hit on him or get him into trouble, but Rick was
definitely a thrill-seeker and maybe a bit of a bad influence. “I don’t think Logan would be
too happy about that.”

“You like him too, don’t you?” Rick’s grin turned fond older
brother more than pure teasing. “I’m not much of an authority on the subject, but he sure is
pretty. You’re, what? Nineteen, twenty? And he can’t be more than twenty-two. Sounds like
an even match to me.”

“I’m just passing through,” Jaime said with a bashful
chuckle.

Rick caught Jaime’s eye and winked. “Never stopped me.
But I guess that means I can’t convince you to potentially piss pretty boy off, huh?”

“Sorry, I’ll pass.”

“Had to try.”

They enjoyed their meal with Rick telling Jaime about some
of the stories he’d covered in the past. Mostly potential hauntings, and while he had a few
tales of the unexplained happen to him, nothing he’d experienced was concrete evidence of
the paranormal.

Logan brought out the drinks and tended to additional
needs of the guests, including seconds for the family upon request, which Logan provided
from the cart. No matter what Logan was doing, he always passed Jaime a soft smile or
flutter of his long pale lashes whenever their eyes met.

Shaw isn’t his
friend—until Ross discovers he’s so much more.

Blurb

Ross Stanton is having a bad week—a bad month—really, a
bad
year. But the last thing he wants, after the betrayal of his friend and business partner, is
for anyone else to know just how much he’s fighting for survival.

He’s struggling to keep his food truck and to maintain
appearances, but what Ross doesn’t realize is that Shaw Finley, the bartender from the
Funky Cup, has seen right through his charade.

Shaw offers the couch in his apartment over the bar,
suggesting that saving money on rent might help salvage Ross’ failing prospects.

Even though he doesn’t really consider them friends, Ross
discovers that Shaw is great to talk to, easy to look at, and he
likes him. Late nights
and lazy mornings and evenings with only the polished wood of the bar between them lead
to an attraction that Ross can’t deny—and that Shaw doesn’t even try to.

But falling in love isn’t as easy as falling into bed together,
and Ross isn’t even sure what he feels
is love, until he figures out that it
couldn’t possibly be anything else.

Excerpt

Shaw removed his glass, replaced it with a full cup of water and ice, and then a moment
later he was back, with a plate full of delicious-smelling food.

“Steak and mushroom hoagie, with horseradish aioli,” Shaw said, depositing it in front of
him, “and our famous sweet potato fries.”

“They’re famous?” Ross wondered, even as he realized he had heard people
talking about them.

“According to our Yelp reviews,” Shaw said. “Can I grab you anything else?”

Ross was about to ask for napkins, because the sandwich looked absolutely delicious but
also messy, but then one appeared next to him, like Shaw had known he’d need
it.

“I think I’m good, thanks,” Ross said, and picked up the sandwich. It had a surprising heft to
it, and he had to give Jackson and Shaw credit—they’d revamped the kitchen and the work

they’d put in showed. When he took a bite, he was even more impressed, half a dozen
flavors exploding across his tongue as he chewed spiced sliced steak working in perfect
complement to the earthiness of the mushrooms.

“You’re nodding over there,” Shaw said, his voice teasing. “Is that a good or a bad thing?”

Ross finished chewing and swallowed. “Really good,” he said. “I’m impressed.”

“Wow,” Shaw said, looking surprised. Too surprised.

“Am I really that notorious?” Ross asked, before he thought better of it. He ate a handful of
sweet potato fries and they were really good too. “That picky?”

He didn’t really want to hear the answer; he really didn’t want to hear Shaw’s
answer.

“Not exactly notorious,” Shaw said, returning to slicing his lemons.

“Then what exactly?”

Shaw sighed and put down the knife.

“You’re gonna get me in trouble,” he said with resignation.

“I am?”

Ross almost told him to forget it. After all, hearing the truth was probably not going to be all
that enlightening and might actually make the next few months of living together
uncomfortable.

Shaw smiled then, and it wasn’t the same smile he gave to all the random guys at the bar. It
was softer, sweeter, more genuine somehow. Ross had never seen it before, and it hit him
somewhere deep, a place where he hadn’t felt much of anything in years.

Maybe the last time had been when his grandmother had smiled at him, over pots and pans
and pie dishes.

“You gotta know that you’ve got the best food at that whole lot,” Shaw said. “Objectively.
The other food there is good, don’t get me wrong, but those guys? You know
why they keep you at arm’s length? They’re all terrified of you, though they’d rather die
than admit it. You’re brilliant. You should be working in the best, the fanciest, the most
expensive restaurants, and instead you’ve got this food truck and it’s just amazing. Every
time I go to Basket, I’m blown away.”

“And,” Shaw continued, leaning over, his blue eyes twinkling again, and Ross’ breath caught
in his throat, “you’re gonna get me in trouble, because Jackson would have my ass for not
thinking Alexis serves the best food on the lot.”

Excerpt

Once the team meeting was over, everyone left except for
me and Henry. I poured us a couple drinks while he climbed up the steps to the DJ booth,
turning the music up to a blast and starting the light show. He came down with a backpack,
carrying it to the middle of the dance floor, where he started unpacking, spreading a blanket
and a couple of pillows on the floor.

“We gonna sleep here?” I asked innocently, knowing what
his intentions were.

“Maybe,” Henry answered, with a wink. We sat
cross-legged on the blanket, surrounded by music and lights, as I raised my drink and
offered a toast. “To us and our gay sanctuary!” I said, clinking our glasses and drinking up. In
the next instant, Henry was on top of me, tearing at my clothes and grinding into me, kissing
me with the hot passion of youth.

A minute later, I was totally naked, on my stomach, with
Henry on top of me, penetrating me as he sucked on my neck so hard I knew that I’d have a
hot hickey the next day. He started slowly, rhythmically moving his hips as he dug his way
deeper and deeper inside me.

He knew what I liked and how I liked to be treated. He
whispered hoarsely in my ear, grunting earnestly, as he called me his little bitch, his ho, his
pussyboy, telling me that he owned my ass and more.

As he was forcing me to answer “Yes, Sir!” to his questions,
demanding I answer louder and louder each time, we suddenly heard the door to the men’s
room in the back open. Apparently, two of the new bartenders had decided to spend a little
quality time in there, enjoying a quick encounter after everyone else had left. When they
saw what was going on, with Henry dominating me thoroughly, they hurried towards the
exit, giggling the entire way.

“Good night, Boss!” they called out in unison.

“Good night, boys, see you tomorrow,” Henry answered, as
he kept his strong hand tight against my mouth so I could only remain silent.

“You know I’m the real boss, right?”

“Yes, Sir” was my immediate answer, as he shook in
spasms, coming to his climax, seeding me right there on the dance floor.

The grand opening finally arrived at 10 PM the next night. I
made sure that all the team members were in their proper positions, and I made a grand
gesture as I flung open the door – that big beautiful red door – to NOTHING. No one was
there to hit the new club at the very first minute.

“Calm down,” I thought to myself. I had to remind myself
that this is an after hours club, and who really would go to a place like this at 10 PM? The
real action at the regular bars wouldn’t even really get started for another hour at
least.

So the DJ kept spinning up in his booth, along with the
lighting tech controlling the lasers. The bartenders tried to keep themselves busy, wiping
down the bars and rinsing glasses that were already clean.

11 PM, still nothing. I was starting to get a little nervous.
Did we do all this for nothing? I was a small town guy in the big city. Maybe this was a dumb
idea.

Henry came over to talk and he was his usual self, full of
positivity. He told me that he personally knew over 100 guys who had promised to show up
for the first night.

At about 12:15 AM, a group of four guys finally came in
through the door. A feeling of sweet relief came over me that at least we had a few
customers, though I could see the disappointed look on their faces as they realized they
were the only people there. But that quickly changed as guys started to trickle in, slowly at
first, then turning to a steady stream.

By 1:30 AM, the club was more than half full, with the line
of customers waiting to get in getting longer with each passing minute. By the time the bars
in the Gayborhood closed at 2 AM, groups of rowdy, drunken gay men were making their
way a few blocks north, turning our grand opening into a truly grand night for
Sanctuary.

As the night progressed, I was drinking a little too heavily,
getting excited as I watched the crowd from the DJ booth. While it was a mostly white
crowd, I was happy that it wasn’t exclusively white, signaling that an integrated club just
might be acceptable in this town. Despite my drunkenness, I noticed a few details that
surprised me.

Sometimes love is defined
by fear.

Blurb

They’d been through it all and emerged victorious. Now

they stood on the very brink of a whole new life bursting with possibilities and renewed
hope for the future. Colin will take the bar exam and begin his promising career as an
Assistant Commonwealth Attorney for the city of Charlottesville. Joshua receives his second
Ph.D. and adds Forensic Psychologist to his list of achievements. What could possibly go
wrong?

And then:

Three students are abducted from the University of Virginia
campus. All three are recovered alive but have been sexually assaulted and brutally beaten.
From his new position as Assistant Commonwealth Attorney, Colin partners with both
campus and city police in a combined task force determined to solve these horrific crimes
and put the perpetrator behind bars. But can they succeed before the ‘campus abductor’
strikes again?

The abusive and volatile husband of one of Joshua’s
patients threatens his life. Suddenly Joshua is under siege as he is stalked both at work and
at home by an unstable assailant.

Entangled in both these life-threatening situations, Colin
struggles to protect both the university he loves and the man he adores. But…

“Oh god, Josh, my sweet love, if anything’s happened to
you…” his voice trailed off, unable to voice the unthinkable.

“NO! Joshua’s
mind shrieked. I can’t give up! I won’t give up! Colin will come! He’ll come!”

Warning: This novel discusses sensitive material
which may be distressing to some readers. Relevant Law explores themes of abduction,
physical violence, and non-graphic sexual assault.

Excerpt

Colin surged to his feet and strode toward the front desk
just as Ray, the desk sergeant entered. He grabbed Colin’s arm and drew him toward the
door. “A friend of yours found Joshua’s car by the Culbreth.” He shoved Colin toward the
door where several uniformed officers waited. “Go with the guys!”

Without uttering a sound he moved through the station
house door and into the darkness beyond. He felt the cool night air touch his face and as he
lurched to a halt his heart jackhammered against his chest. “Oh, sweet Jesus,
no!” he whispered, feeling his insides twist with horror. “NO!” As he reached
the squad car, he felt a strong hand grab his arm and guide him into the vehicle.

“Just take it easy, Colin. We’ll find him.”

When the squad car approached the street where the
Culbreth Theater was located they were nearly blinded by the spinning flash of police and
ambulance lights. The area was already surrounded by law enforcement and Colin spotted
both campus and city police cars parked at random angles, blocking off the street forcing
them to stop where they were.

He bolted from the car and ran to where several police
officers were gathered. Some were bending to examine the ground, and the beam from
various flashlights darted here and there as others examined every inch of ground, sidewalk,
bushes, and street.

“Colin!” a voice called, and he spun to see Lenny striding
toward him. “Ray called me,” Lenny said, grabbing Colin in a tight embrace. “We’ll find him,
Colin. I promise you. We’ll find him.”

He saw flashing police lights in the parking lot across the
street and sprinted across the busy avenue to join them. He spotted Joshua’s car at once,
surrounded by several uniformed police and moved toward it. As he approached, one of the
officers grabbed his arm. “Colin, don’t touch it! We want to check it for prints or other
evidence.”

Colin nodded but gave no response. He turned away and
blindly stumbled back across the street to the theater. For a moment he stood, surrounded
by the flashing lights, hearing the murmur of somber voices, feeling himself teetering on the
edge of collapse. “Josh,” he moaned. “Oh god, this can’t be happening.”

He felt Lenny take his arm and lead him to one side. “Take
it easy, buddy. Just let the guys work. They’ll figure it out. We’ll find him, Colin. We’re
searching his car now, looking for anything that might help us. We can’t find his cellphone
anywhere.”

Colin lowered his head and nodded without fully
understanding, then spun as the sound of heartbroken sobbing reached his ears. He saw

David kneeling on the ground, embracing someone who was bent over, clutching a cloth
garment, rocking back and forth as if in pain. He moved to where David knelt and fell to the
ground beside him. The voice was Nate’s.

“I heard him!” Nate choked out, shaking with sobs. “I heard
him cry out, but I ignored it. Thought I was imagining things! It’s my fault! He brought me
my jacket and it’s my fault! Oh god, oh god, oh god! Josh!” He lifted his head and his
tear-streaked face twisted in pain when he saw Colin kneeling beside him. “Oh god, Colin,
forgive me!”

About the Author

My name is Janice Jarrell. I
am a retired grandmother who lives in Seattle, WA. I have two children and three
grandsons. I’ve been writing gay romance since I was twelve years old, only back then it
wasn’t
called ‘gay romance’. In fact, it had no name at all. It was the fifty’s, and
it was worth your life to admit to being gay, let alone confess to being a girl who constantly
fantasized about relationships between gay men. Hell, I didn’t even know what a
homosexual
was. I lived on a farm out in the sticks in a tiny Michigan village and I’d
never, to my knowledge, even heard the word. I just knew I loved the thought of boy-on-boy
romance. I just
knew that there was something hot going on between Tom
Corbett and his Space Cadets and all those guys on ‘Combat’.

I wrote slash fanfiction for 30
years, writing over 337 stories, some as short as 100 words (a drabble), some as long as a
series which was over 119,012 words. I enjoy writing my stories. I enjoyed the feedback I
received from my readers. It was a creative release I’d been searching for my entire life and I
blessed the Internet for leading me to this artistic oasis for my spirit.

Love’s Magic was
my very first step into writing my
own characters. I will always be grateful
to the slash fanfiction community for nurturing the budding author until she was ready to
blossom into a fully realized novelist. It’s been an amazing thing to watch the gay
community’s growth over these past twenty years. My own journey has echoed theirs in
many ways, and I’m grateful to all those gay activists who fought to give the gay community
the rights and privileges they
always
deserved. Love’s Trials, Love’s Glory, and Love’s
Lawyer were the second and third, and forth books in the series and all four books are
available in audio format on Audible.

I’m also grateful to the gay

romance community, readers, authors, publishers and promoters, who are making these,
my retirement years, the most creative ones of my life. When I’m not writing, I’m traveling,
walking, hiking, knitting, crocheting, and weaving.

I’m very excited about the
upcoming release of my fifth contemporary gay romance novel, Relevant Law. Those of you
who fell in love with Joshua and Colin in the four previous books in this series are in for a bit
of angst in this latest episode. A dark and sinister cloud hangs over the University of Virginia
after three students are abducted, raped and beaten. Colin works with both campus and city
police to catch the perpetrator, but his hard work and effort proves futile when Joshua turns
up missing!

Despite their struggles there
are still many passionate, loving moments and the friends they treasure will be there to help
them find their way.

Excerpts

Book 1 (First Conquest)

Rory was interrupted by the feeling of a needle plunging into his shoulder. His eyes snapped open, but almost immediately, irresistible sleepiness washed over him.

“This is not my fault. This is your fault. It won’t happen if you ever recognize me. You never saw me. You never pay attention to me. You never did that even once.”

The Doctor reached out greedily and tweaked Rory’s big pink nipples with his meaty hands. Rory let out an uncontrollable wail of orgasmic pleasure as he was played with. His nipples were as sensitive as cock. A short, thin plug, flared at one end, rose up from the table between Rory’s legs. Softly and gently, the plug slid into the superhero’s dick hole, sealing his exit and giving his cum no means of escape.

Tears streamed down his eyes, dampened his handsome face. He started to feel empty, like someone subtly cut off an essential part of his body. But instead of pain, he feels a delight sensation that was just getting higher and higher each time the foreign Thing invaded every aspect of his brain, every inch of his soul. The former hero was like unmolded clay, ready to be sculpted into whatever his sculptor wished.

Book 2 (Steamy Pleasure)

“Rory… Rory… Rory…” She wept, her tears falling onto the screen in fat drops, “Where are you…? I’m so worried….” Remember her bad and creepy dream, she cried harder. Martha wept even harder as she saw the newest picture. That is the moment before they went into her apartment when Rory proposes to her. She took a small box from the table and opened it. There are two beautiful golden rings inside it. Rory took it off when they had sex on her bed. “Oh, Rory…” she held the ring and bawled. “What’s happened to you? Where have you gone?” Unwittingly, some parts of her past come to her vision.

Jack realized he already drooled over Mateo’s body without blinked for a minute. He quickly turned his face and cursed. Shit, why could I never hold back this lust, this despicable sin? Mateo is my leader, best friend, even brother. I shouldn’t have a feeling for him. The pale guy closed his eyes and rested his mind. It’s been more than 5 years since their life is started getting worse.

Flare yelped and moaned in agonized ecstasy, especially when Frost leaned down, sucked on his sensitive nipple, then blew on it with his icy-cold breath power, hardening the tip into a tender little erect nub. As their hard cocks rubbed and entwined beneath the water, the power of hot and cold coming from their bodies made wave after wave of mist and steam filled the room.

Evil Brain grinned as he watched the two heroes embraced their new life. The silhouette of two masculine bodies having hot copulation can be seen from the torrent of steam and mist.

Victor growled in dismay as his former teammate obeyed Dr. P’s orders and melted the ice away with his fire powers. He hoped they could somehow resist the perverted villain’s control over them, but it looked like Frost and Flare were a lost cause. His limbs were no longer bound, but he remained on his hands and knees as his suit continued to be unresponsive.

The helmet immediately came to life, and the Terminator’s chocolate-skinned, naked body, was immediately encased with black armor, as dark as midnight. The material wasn’t metal exactly. It looked wetter, slightly rubbery, and also quite shiny. It certainly felt like rubber when it made contact with the new villain’s skin. Several tubes as thick as a hose came out from the helmet and another one from his crotch and connected itself to the respirator. He looked like he was on some kind of life support.

About the Author

Do you prefer to see my short or long bio?

The short one? You got it.

I was a bookworm, especially in fiction, fantasy, erotica, and romance. I drown into the enormous pleasure feeling of reading M/M erotica books since a teen. I found reading steamy gay erotica and romance book makes me feel complete, understand deeply what kind of person is I am, what is true my personality, I can be my own true self, and the best thing is I met with so many incredible friends that really support me. Since I live in an environment where LGBTQ+ is still a very taboo topic, it’s a huge relief.

I love reading and have a broad and wild imagination, but I’m not a good writer. Even English is not my first language, lol. A few years ago, I started to write after thinking deeply that I want to make my own wild imagination come true. I really want my vision to come true because It kind of desperate me whenever I read a story with some scenes that I feel “Hey, it could be hotter if like this,” or “Hm, it could be different if there is…”. Well, so here I am. A reckless young ordinary guy in his mid 20’s with no good English and writing skill try to become a writer and publish his own gay erotic books. Funny, isn’t it?

So, how was that?

Not long enough? A little more detail about me? Alright.

I have broad kinks, but the most special one for me since I was a kid is where the video or story includes many muscles, pecs, nipples, abs. Yes, I have a powerful lust for man’s sculpted body. Sparse hair is acceptable, as long as not exaggerated. I also love seeing a guy being raped, submissive and brainwashed. One of my favorite movies is Batman and Robin (1997). Do you know why? It’s simply because I love seeing the handsome muscular Robin being hypnotized by Poison Ivy pheromone.

Hei, so you’re bisexual because you like sexy Poison Ivy? Well, I still don’t know what my exact gender is. But I still love seeing straight sex as long as the guy is hot and sexy, lol.

Oh, I also love superheroes, alien, and tentacle things. I think everyone loves superheroes, right? their muscular body and tight costume always make me aroused. I also love the Alien movie when the man had sex and was raped by the alien. I also admire a lot of tentacles illustrations that raped and seduced a man. So, here I am with my first series, Superheroes Enslavement. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy writing it.

For one vampire, finding
his mate is far easier than convincing him Fate is real.

Blurb

A shrewd business owner, Vampyr Lord Nikolai Volkov has
one of the most powerful companies on the planet. Besides success, Nikolai has a loving
family that leads the vampires, but he aches to find his mate. Although Nikolai is proud to be
a vampire, he begs Fate to bring him someone to adore—someone who can quench his

need for blood. Nikolai believes his other half will be a human, and he’ll stop at nothing to
find him.

James Chase swore off love, marriage, and any romantic
entanglements at twenty-two when he discovered his boyfriend cheating on him. His father
tried to dictate his future, so James left him behind too. Over a decade later, James is a
hard-working and successful man who allows no one to impact his feelings. Like every
human he knows, James prefers to ignore the Council of Sorcery and Shifters.

At a party James attends to satisfy his sister, he meets a
vampire who insists they are mates. James knows little and cares nothing about the people
in the Council. Despite Nikolai’s best efforts, James refuses to be swept off his feet. Torn
between their two vastly different worlds, Nikolai must convince James that Fate is real if
they are to honor her. But first, the vampire will need to persuade the other half of his soul
to give their relationship a chance.

Excerpt

“I really appreciate you agreeing to have dinner with me
tonight.”

“You left me with little choice,” James stated, picking up his
fork and forcefully spearing a slice of cucumber. “Not only did you call my assistant on
multiple occasions, but you tried to fill my office with flowers and other junk. You need to
stop sending me things immediately.”

“I apologize if I’ve made you uncomfortable. I’m possibly
overzealous, but I have waited over a thousand years for you.”

“Excuse me?”

“Did you read the book I sent, Jamie?”

“It’s James, and no, I work for a living. I don’t have time to
read books, nor do I care at all about your Council.”

It was the truth, or at least the one James wanted to
believe. His curiosity was easily squelched, or so James told himself. The way the book on
his coffee table beckoned to him was a secret he’d never share. Whatever attraction he felt
for Nikolai had to be ignored, no matter how gorgeous the vampire was.

Nikolai frowned. “I was hoping you’d at least have read the

section about mates.”

The Vampyr Lord’s persistence was commendable but
annoying. James refused to give in to the newfound interest he might have about Nikolai’s
world, and he wondered how the vampire could be so sure of his pursuit of James. Slapping
on the stare he gave an underperforming employee, James’s gaze met Nikolai’s head on.

“Why, so I’d understand whatever relationship your butler
and chauffer have? Nikolai, I’m here to tell you to stop contacting me, not because I want to
be friends.”

The disappointment on Nikolai’s face was unmistakable,
and James wondered why his immediate reaction was to soothe the vampire. The feeling
was unexpected and unwelcome.

“I suppose there’s no delicate way to explain matebonds or
Fate to a human.”

“Are you really going to try that whole line about how fate
brought us together?” James asked with a forced laugh. “I didn’t expect someone as
successful as you to have your head stuck in clouds. I at least expected you to have enough
experience to know that tired clichés rarely work.”

“The Council of Sorcery and Shifters is comprised of races
who share a single thing in common. We were granted gifts from Fate,” Nikolai explained
quietly. “For some, they wield magic, or can shift into a beast. I was given immortality, the
ability to teleport, and other talents. Because we live for so long, she also matches us with
someone who is our perfect complement. If they find themselves willing and able to build a
relationship, they bond with blood or bite, which unites them for eternity.

“There are signals to tell us when we’ve met that person. It
varies but often consists of a strong scent associated with that person and instant sexual
attraction. I saw the surprise on your face. I know you felt it,” Nikolai insisted, his pale eyes
boring into James’s in an unwavering way that made James uncomfortable.

Was it possible for Nikolai to see through James’s
hard-earned mask?

James had no idea how Nikolai knew about the roses that
even at the moment he could smell wafting off the vampire, or the inopportune erection
he’d had at his sister’s party, but perhaps mind reading was one of his gifts. A sense of fear
swept through him at the thought of pissing off the vampire, as he had no clue what Nikolai
was capable of, but he quickly dismissed it. Nothing about Nikolai gave the impression he’d
lash out.

“I’m not a fan of organized religion, nor do I believe in
God,” James said. “I’m not judging you because you’re a believer or because you’re part of a

larger religious structure, but you can’t expect me to start a relationship with you because
some book told you that you’d meet your match someday. Maybe it’s a completely
legitimate foundation, but I can assure you that I’m not your perfect complement.”

“Our belief in Fate is not a religion. There is no faith
necessary. I’m clearly a vampire, and I’m surrounded by happy mates bonded by blood and
bite. It’s a tangible thing and is explained clearly in the book I sent over.”

“Which I already told you I’m not going to read.” The
Council continued to hold no interest to a man whose life wouldn’t intersect with magickind,
shifters, or sexy vampires, no matter how much they might appeal. If James kept repeating
it, he’d get the courage to toss the book Nikolai wanted him to read in the trash, or so he
hoped.

“I suppose it would be asking too much to expect Fate to
grant me someone far less stubborn than myself,” Nikolai muttered.

For a moment James had to question whether the beautiful
and enticing man was unhinged. “Have you ever spoken with a professional?”

“I’m not crazy, Jamie.”

Akira Kazama is a man that gets what he wants. A loan shark king affiliated with the yakuza, he practically runs the money game in Tokyo.

Sora Nakano wants to save his mother’s life. When he has no choice left but to take out a hefty loan for her medical bills, he becomes indebted to Akira.

For Akira, business is always strictly business. And when someone owes him money, he always collects. Except this time, he wants more than just money from Sora.

He wants his body.

They agree on an arrangement for Sora to pay off the debt, and it’s supposed to be a win-win situation for them both. But Sora never wanted to be involved with the dark, hidden side of Akira’s life, and when Sora is threatened, he must turn to Akira for help.

Will Sora save his mother and get out of this alive? Or will he spiral down the path of dark money love?

Excerpt

Why was Akira looking at him like that? That intense gaze made Sora’s stomach churn. When Akira’s eyes swept over his body, Sora shifted in his seat. Akira was a handsome man, and Sora wasn’t used to this type of attention. The silence was unsettling, suffocating, and Sora was drowning in it.

“I have nothing,” Sora said, his voice broken.

“So…you don’t have any personal belongings worth enough to sell, no job or income. And…based on your file, you live in an internet café, correct?”

Sora nodded, his head down. He felt shame, sharp and searing like razor blades in his veins. What would his mother say if she saw him now? He was an embarrassment.

“Why an internet café?”

Sora shrugged. “Rent is cheap.”

“What did you spend all that money on?” Akira asked.

Sora didn’t speak. He stared down at his shaking hands, his eyes burning with impending tears. He sniffled, cheeks hot and breathing laboured.

“How will you pay off your debt?” Akira asked.

“I don’t know,” Sora whispered. Tears spilled onto his cheeks, but he didn’t bother to wipe them away.

“At this rate, your debt will triple by the end of the month. And with no sure way to pay it back, it’ll be far worse than what it already is.”

Sora started to sob. He kept his head down, tears dropping in big globs onto his jeans, staining the fabric a darker shade of blue.

He couldn’t pay back a thing. What good was he, then?

Would Akira have him killed? Sora wondered where the authorities would find his body once they were done with him.

Akira stood from his chair and rounded the desk. His cologne was intense as he stood next to Sora and wiped the tears off his cheek with the pad of his thumb.

Sora stifled a gasp and looked up at Akira, his eyes wide and bloodshot with tears.

“Crying will not change a thing.”

“Then what do I do?” Sora asked, his voice shaking. He felt like chum in the water.

Akira chuckled, his voice low. “You pay me back.”

“But I already told you I can’t pay you back. I have nothing.”

“Yes, you do. You have yourself.”

“What do you mean?”

He saw it then, the smirk twisting up at the corner of Akira’s lips. Sora’s cheeks burned, and his stomach squirmed.

“You know what I mean,” Akira said. He walked back to his chair behind the desk and sat down.

Sora frowned. “You can’t expect me to—”

“I expect you to pay me back one way or another, Sora. And since you have nothing else to give me, you can pay back your incurred debt with your body.”

That squirming sensation in the pit of Sora’s stomach worsened. His head spun. Sora wanted to block out Akira’s words, he wanted to get up and run out of the room, but all he could do was sit there, staring.

“Ten thousand yen will be deducted from your account after each service. That is a sure way to settle your debt.”

This didn’t feel real. Akira couldn’t be serious.

“But I can’t do that!” Sora exclaimed.

Akira’s gaze darkened, his voice firm. “You can, and you will. You owe me, Sora. And I’m going to make sure you pay me back.”

“There has to be another way.”

“Like what, Sora? The bank won’t give you a loan, so you can’t give me their money. The government won’t help you. Many people in your position commit suicide, but that would be such a terrible waste. And if you went to the wrong people asking for money and couldn’t pay them back…well…that’s a sure way to get yourself killed.”

Sora stared at Akira. What choice did he have? There was no way Sora could get out of this. If he didn’t want to end up dead on the street, he’d have to go through with it.

Akira watched him, waiting. “So what will it be?”

It all felt surreal, like it wasn’t even happening in the first place.

Sora sniffled and wiped his eyes. He took in a few breaths, trying to calm down. “When…when will we start?”

“Our business arrangement will take effect tomorrow evening if you agree,” Akira said.

Sora hesitated. “Does that mean you’ll sell my body off to anyone and everyone?”

Akira narrowed his eyes. “I am not a pimp, and besides, I don’t like sharing.”

Sora’s cheeks flushed. He let out a shaky breath. What was he getting himself into?

“You’ll be servicing me only,” Akira said.

Sora couldn’t nod. He couldn’t even swallow the damn spit in his mouth, let alone speak. He was stuck, staring into that rapturing gaze. This was it. No turning back.
