The scandal didn’t just end my career. I lost my reputation. My family. My future.

Working patrol in a small beach town in Maine keeps me hidden from the world and out of trouble.

When a traumatized runaway crashes into my life, I reluctantly offer refuge. It throws me straight in the path of his dangerously attractive older brother. Tanner Weston is powerful. Arrogant. Controlling. We’re like fireworks—spectacular in the dark, but plain dangerous in the cold light of day.

Now, I find myself fighting a dangerous shooter and my growing attraction to a man who plans to expose the secrets I’m trying to hide.

The Saltwater Trilogy is a fast-paced, enemies-to-lovers, M/M romantic suspense featuring two men with nothing in common but an excess of emotional baggage. The final book, HORIZON, is now available on Kindle Unlimited.

Book 1: RIPTIDE

Caught in a riptide of secrets and mistakes…

The scandal didn’t just end my career. I lost my reputation. My family. My future.

Fate handed me a fresh start. Working patrol in a small beach town in Maine keeps me hidden from the world and out of trouble. ‘License and registration, please’ is about all the social life I’m looking for these days.

When a traumatized runaway crashes into my life, I reluctantly offer refuge, but his dangerously attractive older brother threatens everything. Tanner Weston is powerful. Arrogant. Always in control. He doesn’t deal well with opposition, especially not from a scruffy small-town cop.

We manage to negotiate an uneasy truce to support his brother’s recovery.

Until bullets cut through the peaceful night sky.

Now, I find myself fighting a dangerous shooter and my growing attraction to a man who plans to expose the secrets I’m trying to hide.

Riptide, book 1 in the Saltwater Trilogy, is a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers, M/M romantic suspense featuring two men with nothing in common but an excess of emotional baggage, so love just doesn’t fall easily into place in the first book. But if you love grit, heart, a good redemption arc, and a hard-won happily ever after, dive into the Saltwater Trilogy today.

TW: Alcohol addiction, off-page SA (side character)

Book 2: GRAVITY

The past comes crashing down. It’s gravity…

Unfinished business is my middle name.

Hiding in my small town in Maine is no longer an option. I have to go back to Chicago and deal with the fallout of the scandal that cost me my family and my career.

Avoiding Tanner Weston is a perk! We’re like fireworks—spectacular in the dark, but plain dangerous in the cold light of day. He tossed me aside so he could focus on reuniting his broken family. I understand.

I wasn’t expecting a warm welcome back home, but I didn’t anticipate running straight into trouble. When I find myself up to my neck in danger—again—it’s Tanner who comes to my rescue. No explanation given. Gloriously arrogant as ever.

Now, we’ll have to join forces and find a way to close the door on my past once and for all.

I can only hope we’ll get it done before it drags Tanner and his innocent, younger brother into the darkness that once nearly destroyed me…

Gravitybook 2 in the Saltwater Trilogy, is a fast-paced, hurt/comfort, M/M romantic suspense featuring two men with nothing in common but an excess of emotional baggage. If you love grit, heart, a good redemption arc, and a hard-won happily ever after, dive into the Saltwater Trilogy today.

TW: alcohol addiction, mention of off-page SA (side character), aging parent with dementia

Book 3: HORIZON

Chasing the horizon is a risky endeavor…

My life is finally settling down.

Or so I thought.

Until my best/only friend disappears without a trace. Now, I race against time to unravel her mystery.

It gets worse when my boyfriend’s ex shows up uninvited, trying to convince him to leave our small backwater town—and me—in his rearview. But do I need to face the truth? Tanner Weston was born to charge into battle and rule the world. The place I call home won’t ever be enough for him.

Tough decisions will have to wait, as my past and present collide and old enemies threaten my found family and everyone I love.

Then, the killer snaps his trap…

Horizon, the third and final book in the Saltwater Trilogy, is a fast-paced, hurt/comfort, M/M romantic suspense featuring two men with nothing in common but an excess of emotional baggage. If you love grit, heart, a good redemption arc, and a hard-won happily ever after, dive into the Saltwater Trilogy today.

TW: alcohol addiction, mention of off-page SA (side character)

Excerpt from Horizon

“What do you want, Weston?” I asked, pinning him with a cold stare.

“I want to take KC with me. And it seems like I’ll need your blessing to do so. I’m here to find out what it’s going to cost me.”

It took a second for the words to sink in. Then liquid rage surged through me. “You think I’d take your money?”

“I want you to pull your claws out of my baby brother. Name your price.”

“What is this? Daytime TV?” I narrowed my eyes and took another step, crowding him against the bar. He didn’t give any ground. Instead, he leaned in.

“Tell me how much, Kelley.”

My mouth went dry. His flushed cheeks, raised chin, and that arrogant twist of a smirk—
Glorious.
No. Hell no! That was the vodka talking…

His gaze snapped to my lips as I darted my tongue over them.

The glow in his eyes told me how much he was enjoying the confrontation. While I was charging like a wounded, angry bull, Weston danced around the arena in tight designer pants in all his fucking glory waving around a red cape.

Jerico is about to meet
two figures from his past.

One filled with love, the
other consumed by vengeance.

Blurb

The coastal town of Nyemouth is the perfect location for
celebrity chef Jerico Osman to fulfil a lifetime ambition. With it’s stunning harbour and brisk
holiday trade, there’s no better place for him to open his first restaurant. It’s a dream that
has been a decade in the making. But there’s another attraction in Nyemouth, one Jerico
was completely unaware of.

Andy Quinn is content with his life. He has a great job
managing Quay House, the popular waterfront hotel, and a peaceful home with a cat called
Patches. Andy spent his twenties working in the cruise industry, exploring the world and has
finally settled in his home town of Nyemouth. Those years at sea were a time of adventure
and discovery, including a ship bound romance with a young Jerico. After fifteen years, Andy
doubts the famous chef will even remember him, but from the moment they reconnect, the
time they spent apart falls away.

Andy isn’t the only figure from Jerico’s past. A week before
the restaurant is due to open, an act of reckless sabotage puts everything he cares about in
danger, including Andy. Jerico has made an enemy, someone who will stop at nothing to see
his long-realised dream become a nightmare. As a plan for vengeance is played out, who will
survive until the end?

Fall in love with compelling new characters and rediscover
some old favourites in the fifth and final instalment of the Jagged Shores series.

Excerpt

The evenings in Nyemouth were beautiful in the summer,
when the blue sky was transformed to the most startling shades of purple, pink and red. It
was Andy’s favourite time of the year, and tonight, it was even better, as he walked the
South Point cliff with Jerico.

“It reminds me of all those sunsets we saw when we were
at sea,” Jerico remarked.

Andy nodded his agreement. “I come up here a lot when I
have the time, if I get finished at the hotel early enough. It helps me to relax. At this time of
year, there’s nothing I like more.”

“It seems like you’ve always been drawn to the
sea.”

“Mmm, probably. I grew up at the coast, worked on ships. I
can’t imagine ever being far away from it.”

He was aware of Jerico watching him and tried to keep his
gaze on the path ahead, though the temptation to turn and feast his own eyes was huge.
Instead, he filled his lungs with the salty air coming from the water. Up here, the sticky heat
of the hotel and the town centre was forgotten.

“What did you do?” Jerico asked. “After we lost touch. You
have me at a disadvantage. You can find out about me online, everything I’ve ever done is
there. But you, apart from your professional CV, there’s nothing.”

Now Andy could not resist looking at him, raising a
bemused eyebrow. “So, you’ve been cyber-stalking me?”

“Doesn’t everyone?”

His brown skin looked glorious in the evening light. Andy’s
mouth was dry. Jerico looked more handsome than he’d ever known him. How had they
come to be here, after all this time? Andy knew he wasn’t dreaming. This was very
real.

He wet his lips. “It’s a similar story to your own. I kept
working at sea until I was around thirty.”

“Doing the same as before? Excursions and tours?”

“For a while, yes. But when I moved to another cruise
company, an opportunity arose to join the hotel management side of the ship, and I found I
enjoyed that even more. I became Deputy Hotel Manager after just two years. I loved being
on the ships. I’m so glad I did all that. For a young guy in his twenties to travel the world and
see all those places, how many people are lucky enough to do that?”

Jerico nodded. “It was great, though I don’t miss the force-
eleven gales and ten-metre waves.”

Andy laughed. “Yeah, I think I’ve pushed those to the back
of my mind and just remember the calm waters and sunsets.”

“I remember some really bad nights, trying to sing and
dance while the stage was going up and down beneath my feet.” He gave a dramatic
shudder and chuckled.

“But look at it now,” Andy said, gesturing to the peaceful
North Sea. Tonight, there wasn’t even a white cap to ruffle its surface. “When I see it like
this, I do miss being out there.”

“Would you ever go back? To working on the
ships?”

“Nah. Been there, done that. I’m happy here. I’ve got my
dream job and my family close by. I’ve seen almost all the world has to offer, so now I’m
content to stay home. How about you?”

“I’ve done a couple of themed culinary cruises in the last
few years—guest speaking and cookery demonstrations, that kind of thing. It’s a lot different
on the other side. The guest staterooms are a lot nicer than those tiny crew cabins we had to
stay in.”

“I’ll bet. That’s something I’ve never done, experiencing a
cruise ship from a passenger perspective. I imagine it’s a different world from what we were
used to.”

“Yeah, but when you’re young, you don’t care, do you? You
just need a place to sleep and shag. They could have put me in a cupboard, and I’d have
been happy.” He gave Andy a flirtatious wink.

“I remember what you were like, all right.”

They paused and stood side by side and looking out to sea
together. For a moment, Andy lost himself in those memories…of standing on the deck of a
ship or the shores of exotic countries with Jerico. Were those the best days of his life? No, he
decided. The best days were still ahead of him.
Be positive and keep moving forward.

It had gone eight o’clock. “I’m getting hungry,” he said. “Do
you fancy something to eat?”

“Starving,” Jerico said. “What do you suggest?”

Can Seth and Evan save
the warlock’s next target, bring down his crime syndicate, and live to tell the
tale?

Blurb

When a coven of dark warlocks killed Seth Tanner’s brother,
Seth became a man driven by vengeance, sworn to stop the cycle of ritual killings, willing to
die for the cause. He never expected to fall head over heels in love with the witches’ next
intended victim. Evan Malone didn’t believe the supernatural was real until Seth swept in
with his magic and motorcycle to save him from being the next sacrifice.

Now they’ve gone on the road together, hunting the rest of
the coven while they figure out how to keep the white-hot, once-in-a-lifetime bond between
them. Days are filled tracking their paranormal quarry, honing their monster hunting skills,
and gaining control of the small magics that have made a life-or-death difference. Nights are
spent together, entangled in adrenaline-fueled passion, learning how to make this love last
forever despite the odds. Seth fears that if they don’t eliminate the rest of the coven, they’ll
be on the run forever, and more people will die. Evan is afraid that Seth’s obsession with
revenge means they might not survive to get a happily ever after.

Seth and Evan head to West Virginia to confront one of the
dark warlocks, a master con man running a cybercrime empire. Can Seth and Evan save the
warlock’s next target, bring down his crime syndicate, and live to tell the tale?

Signs and Wonders is a thrill-packed supernatural thrill ride with plenty of paranormal suspense,
hurt/comfort, hot nights, found family, deadly magic, immortal witches, determined hunters,
haunted places, creepy ghosts, impressive explosions, spooky chills, and sexy thrills, and
features an evolving, established romantic relationship with all the feels.

Excerpt

“Did you find anything about the disappearances? The warlock
isn’t the only reason people go missing,” Evan said, and Seth could see how proud he was of
his smart little brother. He felt a pang of loss for what Jesse could have become and figured
that the grief would never go away.

“The NQRZ has been there for a while—since 1958—and they
picked the location because that area is fairly remote,” Parker said. “Not very populated and
off the beaten track. I’ve been looking into the missing person reports going back as far as I
can for the general area, especially the small towns nearby.”

Parker seemed to relish sharing his findings. “Every year
several people go missing and are never accounted for. They might not all be due to Swain,
but you said he can draw power from blood magic in between his main sacrifices, so I think
it’s possible he’s responsible for some of them. And a few have indirect ties to his
retreat—people who left the program and later vanished, or who had other connections to
his business. Nothing the police ever bothered with, as far as I can tell.”

“Good work,” Evan said. “Anything else?”

“I’m not sure,” Parker said. “I found a link between Swain’s
charity and some fundraising groups that have gotten in trouble for dicey dealings.”

“What kind of trouble?” Seth asked.

“Improper paperwork, tax issues, not following the rules,”
Parker replied. “I just found that piece, so I’m still looking into it, but it made me wonder if
he had a hand in the other groups instead of just being associated.”

“Be careful,” Evan cautioned, and Seth knew his partner was
walking the line between appreciating Parker’s contributions and protecting his little brother
from a very real threat. “Don’t do anything that would attract attention to yourself.”

“I won’t.” Parker sounded patiently put-upon. “I promise.”

“Keep us posted. We’ll be in Pittsburgh for a little bit before we
head for West Virginia.”

“Got it. I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve got something to
report.” Parker paused. “You two watch your backs, okay? Don’t get hurt.”

Seth shifted his weight to ease the ache in his shoulders. Evan
moved to take pressure off his bruised hip. “We will,” Evan promised. “Talk to you
soon.”

The call ended. Seth and Evan exchanged a look.

“Thoughts?” Evan asked.

“He’s good,” Seth said. “Let’s hope that he knows enough to fly
under the radar. But if his hunches pay off, some of our friends might be able to dig into
other sources to find even more information. Swain and the warlocks have had a century to
learn how to cover their tracks. There’s a reason no one’s untangled this whole mess before
now.”

Seth and Evan had been searching archives for photos of
Fletcher Swain under his various aliases without much luck. The best image was from 1900,
the year Swain gained immortality.

Excerpt

Holden topped off the beer and slammed it on the counter
in front of Grey. The grungy mechanic tore his eyes away from a green-haired twink across
the room. “What crawled up your ass tonight?”

JD’s was a gay bar and prime hookup spot, so there were a
few dozen suitable answers, but Holden wasn’t feeling any of them. His mind was fucking
with him—flashing lust-filled images from a past he’d buried deep in a box labeled
“mistake.” For the past hour, while he was serving drinks and cashing out people as it got
late, he had tried hard to ignore the man in a dark suit sitting at one of the high tables away
from the crowds. It had been a good night until Brent Northwood showed up.

Grey took a sip and licked the foam off his lips with an
exaggerated swirl of his tongue. On the other side of the bar green-hair rolled his eyes and
turned away to follow his friends back to a booth. Grey had tried to get the guy’s attention a
few times now and had consistently been shot down.

“You’re not Kyle’s type,” Holden said helpfully as he wiped
down the beer taps.

Grey pulled a face. “It’s a shit night. The place was hopping
for a while, but lately it’s been slow. I think Jake is in trouble. He hit gold when that blogger
made a big deal out of JD’s, but there was just no way that was gonna last. JD’s doesn’t offer
enough. In the end, it’s just a dingy corner bar.”

Then what the fuck are you doing here every night?
Holden swallowed his acrid reply. Grey was a
bit of an ass, however Holden was pretty sure that nothing but an empty apartment waited
for the guy at the end of the day. Five months ago, he would have been quick to judge and
discard JD’s regular, but these days, they had too much in common.

Before he could stop himself, Holden threw a glance across
the room to the lanky man sitting motionless in the dim light. As always, Brent looked like
he’d just stepped out of a courtroom. Impeccably dressed in an Armani suit. A face with
square angles and full lips with a cupid’s bow. The dark five o’clock shadow was the only
imperfection, but it enhanced his classic charms. Holden had always known he was bi. He’d
experimented with both men and women, but Brent Northwood, almost ten years older,
serious to the point of severe, wasn’t even his usual type. Still, nobody had ever been as
irresistible.

Elbows resting on the table, the lawyer nursed a whiskey in
his hands. He seemed lost in his thoughts. Luckily, Grey picked up their conversation again
before Holden was caught staring. “Somebody must have bought the rundown movie
theater next door. They’re renovating. The dumpster takes up half the parking spots on this
side.”

“Yeah, Jake’s been talking about them hammering all day
long. He’s pissed about the noise,” he replied.

“If that’s turned into a bar, Jake can bag it,” Grey said with
gloomy delight. “I’m telling you, this is only the beginning.” He waved around the mostly
empty place.

“Bullshit. It’s Tuesday. Tuesdays are slow.”

“And you’re stuck with Tuesdays.” Grey wasn’t done stirring
shit up. “Maybe you should talk to Jake. You must be hurting for money after losing your
cushy detective job—”

A hand came down on Holden’s back. “Grey, shut your
mouth,” Jake growled at the mechanic. “Nobody needs your poison. Told you that before. If
you can’t be civil, get the fuck out of my bar.”

It wasn’t an empty threat. Jake had zero tolerance for hate
or stupidity, and he was fiercely protective of his staff. Jake grabbed a few empty bottles and
tossed them into a crate under the bar. “Where is Jazz?”

“It was slow, so I sent them home a few minutes ago.
They’ve got an exam tomorrow. Talked about it all night. I’ve got it covered and thought they
could use a few extra hours of sleep,” Holden replied.

“Makes sense to take advantage of a nice, peaceful night,”
Jake said with a happy sigh. He was the only bar owner Holden knew who got into a pissy
mood when his place was packed with people. Jake loved peace and quiet, and most nights,
JD’s Bar was anything but.

Jake stopped abruptly and squinted into the dimly lit
taproom. “What’s the damn fixer doing here?”

“Northwood?” It was petty, but Holden took some perverse
pleasure in the fact that Jake didn’t like Brent.

“Yeah, Brent fucking Northwood.”

Someone is hunting
supernaturals

Blurb

Pōneke Shadows Book 1

Vampires and werewolves live long lives. The Sleepless City
saga might have ended but the story continues…

Someone is hunting supernaturals.

Vampire Simon Hawthorne and his human partner Ben
Leyton’s plans for a peaceful holiday with family are hijacked by the New Zealand
Supernatural Council.

Tensions are on the rise in Wellington. Supernatural
councillors are disappearing. Werewolves are suspicious of anyone human or vampire. If
they don’t work together, their enemy has already won.

And no one with a connection to the supernatural world is
safe.

Excerpt

Rupert looked mildly affronted. “I am not in hiding. The council
were trying to get me involved, and I make a point of not getting mixed up in their politics,
whatever the cost, considering that cost is usually too high for anyone but them.”

“You’re hiding from the council?” Ben asked. “I can understand
that. They hijacked Simon’s delivery at Auckland airport, then blackmailed him into helping
them.”

“If this is supposed to surprise me, you’re a few centuries late
with that titbit of information,” Rupert said. “I have yet to meet a council I enjoyed doing
business with. Though there was that group of werewolves in rural Japan a couple of
hundred years ago that—”

“Why are you here?” Simon cut Rupert off before he could
start on one of his stories. Although neither he nor Marion would admit it, they shared a
predilection for embellishing stories about their pasts.

Rupert fished a large envelope from his pocket and handed it
to Simon. “This is the information I have, but it’s not a lot. They cover their tracks well, apart
from that massacre in Brisbane nearly ten years ago. There is someone in Wellington who
provides a safe haven to anyone in our community who asks for it. Nothing much happens in
the area that Elard doesn’t know about. You should talk to him.”

“You’re not going to help?” Ben asked

“Heavens, no.” Rupert raised an eyebrow. “At least Simon
knows better than to ask that.”

“Rupert’s better at staying in the shadows and orchestrating
things from afar. If we need help, I’m sure he’ll be there…” Simon glanced at Rupert. “… but
only on his own terms. I’d ask him to join our team, but it would be a waste of time.”

“Totally a waste of time.” Rupert grinned and nodded towards
both of them in turn. “Now, I must be off. I’ll be in touch. Watch yourselves, gentlemen. I
don’t enjoy funerals.” He blurred towards the door. It opened, then closed behind him, and
then he was gone.

“He’s kind of how I remember him, but not,” Ben said
slowly.

“The not, would be because you didn’t know what he was
then. He’s not hiding it now, though he’s never completely upfront about anything.” Simon
emptied the envelope, took a pile of neatly typewritten sheets to read, and gave the rest to
Ben to look through. “Rupert’s always had his own agenda. It’s how he’s managed to survive
so long.”

“Uh-huh.” Ben shook the papers he held. “There’s something
loose in here.” A small card fell to the floor. He picked it up and his eyes widened. “It’s a
business card, so guessing it’s Elard’s.”

“And?” Simon asked, knowing there must be an ‘and’.

“He’s a Catholic priest.” Ben read the words on the card out
loud. “Fr Elard Reith, St Ansgar’s Parish, Newtown. We help those who ask.” He groaned.
“Oh great, I was hoping to avoid Uncle Martin while I was here.”

“Uncle Martin?” Simon asked. Ben had mentioned him once or
twice, but he’d got the impression Ben’s father’s brother wasn’t that close to the rest of the
family.

“Yeah. He lives across the road from St Ansgar’s and always
acts like he knows stuff the rest of us don’t.”

“Perhaps he does.” Simon got up to pour some more tea.

“I hope not.” Ben didn’t look happy. “It’s starting to feel like
however hard we try to keep my family out of all this, fate is making damn sure they keep
barging in.”

Excerpt

A gay bar. Thank you, Jesus. A fucking gay bar. Loud and
proud. Con’s kind of place, but none of Murphy’s men would be caught dead in here. Con’s
body hurt all over, but they hadn’t found him. He’d given his pursuers the slip and was out of
the rain.

About an hour ago—close to two in the morning—Jake had
flipped the lights on and kicked everybody out. People barely dared to finish their drinks
when the big, bulky man with his booming voice told them to
go the fuck home. Con would be
surprised if any of them would come back. Damn, Jake was something else. Con had a thing
for guys who took charge and thinking of it sent sparks down his spine.

Jake had offered Con to call it a night as soon as the last
guest had left the place. Clearly, he hadn’t missed that Con was moving slower and slower as
the night progressed. And fuck, his ribs hurt something fierce. Still, he had declined Jake’s
offer to leave right away. The bar owner had raised an eyebrow, but much to his relief, Jake
had started to put the chairs up himself while Con got a broom. And every time he tried to
do anything but sweep, Jake had thundered at him to stay out of the way.

“Are you trying to dig a hole with that broom? I think that
corner is clean enough,” Jake said quietly from across the room, his tall frame propped
against the bar—arms crossed—watching. Jake’s calm focus sent chills over Con’s body as he
forced himself to relax with a few more long inhales and exhales. His overtired brain fired
some images of being at the receiving end of Jake’s laser sharp attention under different
circumstance—with a whole lot less distance between them, and fewer clothes. Jake was
hot in an angry, pissed-off way. Square. Solid. A force to be reckoned with.

Loud tapping of Jake’s fingers onto the bar brought Con
back from his wayward thoughts. For a moment, the impatient rhythm was the only sound,
then Jake let out a huff of air and said, “Listen, I’m not sure how to ask this, but—do you
have anywhere to go tonight?”

“Yes, of course, I—” Con’s answer had been a reflex, but he
actually had no idea how to end this sentence.

“You can stay here if you have nowhere safe to go.”

Nowhere safe. How did he know? Con’s heart skipped a beat and then started to race again in his
chest. His eyes shot over to the front door.
How
the fuck did he know?

“Hey, calm down.” Jake pushed himself up from the counter
and walked a few steps closer but then stopped again. “You have no defensive wounds. And,
well, you’re a big dude, so I wonder what happened to you tonight.”

Three against one. I never had a chance.

“It’s fine. You’re safe. Is it okay if I touch you?” Jake was
suddenly by his side, his voice soft. Gently, a hand came down on his shoulder. “It’s okay.
Why don’t you just stay on my couch tonight?”

The warmth of Jake’s hand seeped through his skin. Con
gritted his jaw to steel himself against the sudden need to lean in. Any other time, he’d have
given Jake crap for treating him like a wounded animal, but his beat-up body was starting to
give in on him. “That would be great,” he managed through clenched teeth.

Dash Cassidy loves his
town even more than his bike, but his priorities have a violent shift in gear when an
irresistible Russian hitman comes along.

Blurb

Darius ‘Dash’ Cassidy has ended up president of the small
town of Salvation’s Iron Knights motorcycle gang, almost by accident. His sister, Zara, is the
more business-savvy and ambitious of the two, but their father—the infamous Butch
Cassidy—was far from politically correct, so Dash was left in charge.

Up to now, Dash has been more than happy to muscle his
way through life as his father did before him, even if he is starting to suspect that something
might be missing.

But now there’s a new player in town. Iris Damaro has
plans to make Salvation the center of her international smuggling operation. Dash isn’t
going to sit still while Damaro steamrolls through his town, but when the crime boss sends
her alluring Russian number two, Nikita Vasiliev, to do her negotiating, Dash realizes he may
be in over his head.

Can Dash figure out where his priorities lie before his
town—or his heart—is lost forever?

Excerpt

The doorbell jangled and in stepped Nikita Vasiliev.

He was perfect, not a speck of dust or gleam of sweat on
him. He wore a tight black T-shirt and jeans, which did very little to stop Dash from picturing
what might lay underneath. His bare arms were surprisingly toned, the muscles sliding
under his pale skin as he moved. His smile was thin and his eyes, like white-hot needles,
drove right into Dash’s belly. His suited shadows followed, their expressions hidden by
sunglasses.

“I told her the same thing I told you,” Vasiliev said
smoothly. “I told her to think about it.”

Dash stood, his hand on his gun. Furniture scraped as the
diners stood and looked vainly at the exit, now blocked by the suited goons.

“No, please,” Vasiliev said as he came forward, sinuous as a
snake, his fine-boned hands held out, palms up. “Do not let us interrupt your meals.” The
diners slowly lowered themselves back to their seats, and the Russian turned his smile on

Dash. “Mr. Cassidy, let’s not ruin these fine people’s mornings.”

“What do you want, Vasiliev?”

He raised his eyebrows. “Your pronunciation is improving.
Did you look it up on YouTube?”

“Gentlemen,” Rosie barked, “this here may be an old-
fashioned business, but it’s still my business. Either you order something or take your
business elsewhere.”

“I’d say that’s fair,” the Russian said, perusing the menu on
the wall. “My associates will take a coffee. I believe I would very much like to try
your…blueberry pancakes?”

“Comin’ up,” she said, nodding reassuringly at Big Bill
through the hatch, as his face had grown stormy. “Cassidy?” she said, tilting her chin. “I
don’t care who your daddy were. My place, my rules.”

“Refill,” he said without moving.

A wider smile spread over Vasiliev’s sculpted mouth. He
drifted past Dash to a booth against the wall. “Shall we act like civilized adults?”

Dash glanced at the heavies as they took stools at the end
of the counter, between him and the door, and sat.

Vasiliev lowered himself into the seat opposite,
interweaving his long fingers on the scarred Formica tabletop. Dash realized for the first
time that his fingers were slightly crooked, the skin webbed with scars as fine as silver
thread.

Rosie slapped a plate of pancakes and a syrup jug on the
table. She set a fresh coffee in front of Dash with a hard look then hastened back behind the
counter.

“What are you doing here?” Dash asked in a low voice.

“Quite incredible,” Vasiliev said, pouring syrup on the
pancakes. “I was just about to ask you the same thing.”

“You don’t scare me, Vasiliev.”

“Don’t I?” He met Dash’s eyes as he lifted a forkful of
pancake to his mouth. He chewed, scowled then pushed the plate away. “Bliaha. How can
you have something so sweet for breakfast? May I?” Before Dash could speak, Vasiliev had
sipped from Dash’s mug, his blue eyes boring into his over the rim. “Ah,” he said, lowering

the cup. “Seems America does get some things right.”

“What do you want with Rosie?” Dash said, fighting to keep
his voice under control.

“I came to see if she had had any further thoughts on our
proposal,” Vasiliev said, dabbing his mouth with a napkin. “But I’m guessing her position is
as yet unchanged. No matter. She has thirteen more days…just like you.”

“What happens then?”

“That’s our business.”

Dash leaned forward on his elbows. “Your boss may be
used to getting what she wants, but she won’t get what she wants from us.”

“Then she’ll kill you all.”

“I’d like to see her try.”

Excerpt

“Who were those guys?” His fists balled up on my stomach,
and I heard the crack of his jawline tightening with teeth gnashing. These signs of his
possession turned my heart to jelly.

“Relax there, Mr. Protective. They were punk ass college
guys on spring break. Never saw them again. And I haven’t been with anyone since . . . Until
last night. With you.”

“Me? So you were my first in forever, and I was as well for
you?” He squeezed me tighter.

“Hm-hmm. After your birthday, I intended to quit for sure.
But then you came to see me. So I danced for you. And then I kept going, wondering if you
might come back. And you did. Every Tuesday and Thursday, when Mom had her meetings
like clockwork. Somehow, you made me feel safe. And . . . I enjoyed dancing for you. I liked
your eyes following my every move.”

“Don’t go back. I don’t want you there. I can’t stand the
thought of other men watching you, touching your G-string or going anywhere near your
skin.”

I tightened our hold once again, wiggling my bottom
against his half hard morning wood. “Hm. So you’re the jealous type. I like it.”

“Yeah, maybe I am. Besides, I should have stopped you
when I first saw you. If I had given any thought to how dangerous it might be for you there .

. . maybe Nico wouldn’t be in this situation.”

“Fucking Nico,” I said with upmost affection for my friend.
“It probably didn’t matter. His drug use would have still gotten out of hand, maybe slower is
all.”

“Still, don’t go back. Quit today.”

“And work where? I can’t stay at moms, and can’t stay at
Dominic’s. It’s nice of you to offer here, but I need a job to afford my own place.” I already
had a printout of some jobs to check on for the week. Coffee barista, nighttime janitor . . .
nothing really appealing, but my options narrowed without a degree or career trajectory. I’d
go to hell before admitting Mom was right about college.

“Stay with me. I’ll take care of us until you find something
else.”

“Yeah?” I twisted, facing him, and cupped his cheek. I hung
on every hope for what this meant between us.

“Hm-hmm.”

I brushed his lips, taking full advantage of this euphoric
morning feeling. This thing right now between us, undefined, yet perfect. Undeterred by an
uncertain future, simply luxuriating in each other’s arms before time or whatever life threw
at us took it away.

He worked down, brushing his lips across my neck and
Adam’s apple.

“Mm. If I stay with you, does it mean I get more of your lips
all over me?”

“Whatever you want, I’m happy to provide,” he said,
pushing me onto my back. Brushing his whiskers down my torso followed by his soft lips and
tongue, every move of his grew like little reassurances of our path ahead, freely exploring
whatever this was between us.
